Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Hi everyone,

I live in Bath, uk and have been writing seriously for about 5 years now. Everything I wrote before that's not worth showing to anyone.

There are many passions in my life besides writing and this has also led to me running two other companies, flight Productions, a film company and Jnk clothing where I get to splurge out all my clothing designs.

I've been small press published for just over a year now by Red Feather Writing with my first book, With Proud Humility, in both electronic and paper form and my ebook, Innocent Hearts.

That's me in brief anyway. I'll go into a bit more detail sometime soon. Here's the amazon links to both books to finish off:

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Totally forgot to check back in here and give more info on my book so here goes:

My first, With Proud Humility, is a swashbuckler type, set in the early 1800's. It has a female lead, the daring Marie Woodell and her counterpart the Illustrious (and rather attractive) Captain Alexander Hayes. It's in both ebook and print.

My second, Innocent Hearts, is a young adult fantasy collection of two short stories set in the same world. They have a few cross over chracters and introduce one of my races in my fantasy world I'm sculpting, called Nepharil, a type of human with wings.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hmmm - the 2nd one looks interesting, have put it on my wish list for my next voucher.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm quite liking the sound of both.

You sound like a woman of many talents Jess :o)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Thanks Gingerlily :)
& Jud, I always forget the Uk links. I guess it would have made more sense this being a UK group.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No problem :o) One of us is usually happy to help and add them ourselves. I always forget the .com links which is discriminating against our lovely GL there.

message 8: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments I also forgot to add that on my blog - http://www.jessmountifield.co.uk I am blogging my third novel length piece chapter by chapter. It's called Sherdan's Prophecy and is a sci-fi. I wanted to attempt something a bit different so I've been blogging it to get some feedback.

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Just wanted to point out after this weekend I'm planning on putting the price of my novel back up to it's usual price rather than the 77p it currently is so if anyone is planning on picking it up sooner rather than later would be wise :)

message 10: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments I don't know where to put this other than my own space here but my small press publisher just published the first ebook for someone who also happens to be in my own writing group as well and he could do with a boost getting started. It's a fantasy short similar to my own Innocent hearts ebook, here's the link - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elsas-Reality...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks Jess.

You could also start a thread for it in the recommended books section, if you like.

Thanks Patti, I had forgotten about that section. I'm part of so many groups I get a little lost sometimes.

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments I've been away from the group for quite some time but I should now be back a bit more. I was rather sick for a few months and then went on holiday but I'm beginning to feel better now and get back into some kind of routine.

On top of that my next book is finally also available but I have no diea how to add it to goodreads. My last two were already here before I joined. Does anyone know how to do so?

No problem - let us have the book details & one of the librarians can sort it for you.

message 15: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Awesome, thank you Janet. The book is here on Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chains-of-Fre...

Does that have everything you need?

I've quickly put it on - can change anything that needs later - it does need a cover picture.

message 17: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments I've added the cover photo, thank you very much for the help.

message 18: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments I'm such a slacker. I totally forgot I had this thread lurking around. I've just updated the top post with the missing links and made sure I included the uk links this time (I'm getting better at this).

The newest book is Sherdan's Prophecy which is the first in a sci-fi series. My inspiration for this one was the TV series, The 4400, if anyone has seen that.

message 19: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Hi Adam, It might well be. Although I've not done a huge amount in the last few months.

message 20: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments I've not done editing or a huge amount of camera work. I've been in front of the camera a few times but nothing particularly important in that regard. I'd like to do more camera work in future but I'll do whatever is needed.

message 21: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments It does. There's nothing quite like the buzz of a bunch of people who all want to see a project work.

message 22: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Super excited this morning. ENT featured With Proud Humility, as one of their bargain books late yesterday evening (I've reduced the price from $2.99 to $0.99 for three days) and I had a huge amount of sales while I slept. Currently ranked 991 in the paid charts on amazon.com, and 34 in the historical fiction charts. I'm so over the moon.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well done Jess! Must be a great thing to wake up to.

message 24: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Thanks Ignite! I actually had nightmares about waking up to loads of sales and then finding they were all returned! Probably because I had a return right before going to bed and I knew the promotion had just gone live, so it was quite a relief to wake up and find I didn't have loads of returns but actually loads of sales.

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Seriously excited to be able to announce my latest release, Wandering to Belong by Jess Mountifield . It's out in a week's time and I'm doing a facebook launch event a week tomorrow, with all sorts of games, and prizes, including a handwritten and handmade, bound version of the story. Should be a lot of fun if people want to come check it out - https://www.facebook.com/events/56682...

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Whoop, have finished Sherdn's Legacy in first draft, my sequel to Sherdan's Prophecy. It's been great fun revisiting characters. Anya and Sherdan have got to be my favourite pair at the moment. Those two in one room is like a free firework display.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Really like the cover Jess, I'll have to check out the story

message 28: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Thanks David. My cover designer really did a good job on this one. I think it's going to look really really good on the front of a notebook and probably in a keyring too.

message 29: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Keyring! sounds good... they like a bit of merchandising

message 30: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Yeah, they really do. In fact I've had such a good response to.merchandising that I'm sorting out selling prices and suppliers and offering some of it for sale soon.

message 31: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Wow. A serious business woman. One day I may get there (serious I mean not woman-hood).

message 32: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Lol! It's only half serious at the moment. I'll probably just post a price list on my facebook page and website etc. I don't expect huge amounts of sales through that avenue, but if the fans like that kind of stuff it makes sense for me to provide opportunities to pick it up. I'm a firm believer in taking feedback from fans and putting anything of sense into action. Without them and their money I have no career.

message 33: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I'll know who to ask for advice, if I ever have enough fans

message 34: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Yeah, I'd be more than happy to share what I'm doing, especially if it goes down well with readers.

message 35: by Jess (last edited Mar 15, 2013 05:24AM) (new)
