Hi Marja,
Techno Corner is the place for this kind of question.
Do you mean notifications from Goodreads?
You can search for information about all sorts of things relating to the site in the Feedback Group: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1
You don't have to join to read through the posts, but if you would like to make a comment you will have to join.
I remember reading something a few days ago about a slowdown in notifications because of an upgrade going on... but you can browse through the feedback group to get more information.

This is a spot where you can control how you receive email of your group discussion comments. Maybe this can be adjusted to suit you.

Yes, an 11.

I do not believe that your own reviews are supposed to show up in your own Friends' Updates. You are probably not doing anything wrong. To check whether your reviews are indeed posted, just search for the book on GR, and see if your own review shows up.

You should be able to see your reviews and updates on your Profile, not your Home Page - in effect the 'Recent Updates' is your 'outgoing' feed and your activity that your friends see.
