Hi April! I've just joined too. I'm so excited to work on this challenge (even though I'm a grown-up and I don't have any kids!) I don't know if the group is still active, but the two of us are here at least!

I don't know what we can do. Maybe contact the moderator and ask if they will let someone else either moderate or co-moderate the group so that we can get it active again. Just a thought.

Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda has to be one of the best 8-10 yo books ever written. She is a truly remarkable author.
I don't have time to moderate, but would gladly join you in choosing a book each month to discuss. Perhaps even a picture book each month as well.
Cool! Well I'm glad that there are a few of us interested :)
We may as well start with preliminaries - anyone have a preference about which age group or decade of publication to start with? Linda, you said you're reading the 8+ group so what if we started there?

I just wrote to the moderator Roland. I'll let you know how it goes - hopefully we can get this started!

Hi Beth, glad you could join us! I'm sure we could do a 3+ book each month as well, since they're so short & easy to read.

I just heard back from Roland, and he's happy to make one of us moderator. Does anyone want the job? I'm willing to do it if no one else puts their hand up, but let me know if one of you would prefer to take the job!
Well, looks like I'm the new moderator! I've sent out an email so we can vote for a May read. Please vote. It'll be great to get the monthly read going again.

You go Girl!
Awesome effort - & we'll try to make it easy for you.

Unless someone knows of a quick way of creating the list other than manually?
Thanks Linda, that would be wonderful. I'm afraid I don't know any other way of putting books on the group shelf apart from one at a time.

I joined seeking people who know lots about kids chapter books, particularly from the early 70s or so.
There is this one book that I can only just sortof recall, but I remember that I loved it. The only thing I can remember is that the two main characters (who I think were a brother and a sister, but not sure about that) found, or maybe fell through a hidden entrance, to an underground forest world passageway. The entrance was at the base of a very large tree.
What I can remember vividly is the description of the roof of the tunnel they were walking through, once they entered this passageway. It described what looked like many intertwined branches overhead, which were the trees roots, and not branches at all.
Stuck with me forever, the way the book pointed out that root systems underground were as wide and many, as what you see aboveground in the branches.
I can't remember anything about what happened after they passed through this passageway, or what happened before ... but I would LOVE to find the book again, and re-read it. Find out why it's stuck in my mind for 4 decades or so :)

Thank you, Tiffany :). I haven't, but I will !

The book - Magic in the Park, by Ruth Chew.

She wrote many childhood books, the earliest ten or so of which I remember reading and loving :-). Link -http://www.ruthchew.com/about-the-books/

Welcome to our group!
You can look at our bookshelf and see that we have books categorized by age level, so you might be particularly interested in the "ages_12_and_up" shelf.

I'm Isobel and this group brings back memories. I was a member of the group for the grownup version 1001 books to read before you die, then I had kids. Since then, sadly, many really good books just frustrate me because I don't have enough time to myself to appreciate them.
Luckily I adore kids books. Story time is the best time at our house (for me at least).

I wish I didn't have so many things to read, I'm always envious of people reading the lists finishing 50+ each year!!

I'm just as bad sometimes, ( case in point this month), work has been ridiculous the last couple of weeks, I've had kinder visits this week so I've been concentrating on that.
