The Sword and Laser discussion

I started reading Man in the High Castle last week, and at the halfway point, it just isn't doing it for me. I have heard that the payoff at the end is supposed to be good, so I kinda want to continue. Anyone here read it? I know Tom has. Is it worth finishing? None of my friends read in this genre, so I figured I'd ask the S&L group what they think. Thanks!

I re-read it last year, and was surprised at the racism and sexism in the book. The payoff isn't that amazing, except that there are bits of the book that still stick in my mind twenty years later, like corn on the cob get stuck between your teeth...the pace doesn't change much from the middle. I'd say skip to the last twenty pages of the book if you're not happy with it.
