Okay Everyone, it's time to get the discussion started for The Fault in our Stars. I'm sorry this is a little late. School work is starting to pile on with only 5 weeks left of classes. Anyways I digress, and switch topics

For the Fault in our Stars

1.) What did you think of the book overall? Where you excited to read this book?
I really liked this book overall. It was a great read. I was very excited to read this book. This was my second John Green book. I was going to pre-order it, but I didn't have the funds. But I managed to some two copies of it after it came out. So it's all good.

2.) Did you like the main character Hazel? What about Augustus Waters?
I really liked both characters. The main characters, Hazel, I absolutely loved her and felt bad for her with the tumor and having to go through all the medical stuff. But I was happy for her when she met Augustus at the support group.

3.)Did you cry at any time throughout the book?
I did a little bit. I get emotionally sometimes during books like these.

4.) Out of curiosity, did you get a signed copy of the book?
As I said earlier, I wasn't able to pre-order it, but I was able to get one book at Barnes and Noble signed with a light green J scribble. Then about 2 weeks later I was in Book-A-Million and I found one with a blue J scribble and a red Hanklerfish. So I have two of them. So I'm really glad that I liked this book.

Now let's discuss away, also feel free to ask questions if you have any!

Where are the discussions? Who has finished reading the book? Do you have any questions about it?

Kayelee Rock (kayeleerock) | 120 comments Mod
It looks like some serious loss of interest is going on... Hmm... :-/ Well I'm almost finished. I've been working on a major project for a class but I'm trying to catch up!
I think we need some antics to spike interest again. It seems not enough people are interested in just reading and discussing a book once a month.
Ideas?

Kayla Beck Kalnasy (kaylabeck) | 153 comments Mod
I'll be honest, I don't read contemporary. I have a lot of books that I'm reviewing for both my blog and library website, and it was really hard for me to force myself to put them aside for a genre that doesn't really do it for me. I have a copy of The Fault in Our Stars, but I've been so incredibly busy with non-reading things, too. Yes, please kick me for the excuses.

Anywho, I have a widget for the group on the side of my blog (not that the traffic is astounding or anything), and I've advertised it on my blog and Twitter. Maybe we can really hit people up to get in on the Cinder discussion since the book has been pretty popular. And I'm still willing to give away either an ARC or finished copy each month. :-)

Kayelee Rock (kayeleerock) | 120 comments Mod
We can advertise that. Those who participate in some way can win, maybe?

Exactly :-)

Sounds like a good idea to me! I have to look I might have some ARCs or books to giveaway as well.

Kayelee Rock (kayeleerock) | 120 comments Mod
Okay so how to go about this? Perhaps advertise that we are discussing cinder, and invite people to join, and we will now do monthly book or arc giveaways to people who participate? Something along those lines?
Kayla since your helping so much and we don't have much going on, why don't you pick some book options to vote on for next month? Try to pick things that have a large anticipation, so we can continue advertising throughout that month a little more.

My crazy class ends the 28th and then I'll be able to schedule out more time for these things. Thanks for the help girls!

Here's my late part of the discussion:
Which I guess is just between me and Alisha, lol.
What did you think of the book overall? Where you excited to read this book?
I really LOVED this book. Despite the fact that it's kind of a tragedy, and also contemporary, both things I don't usually look for in books, I really really loved it. John Green's humor and wit really crosses over into it!

2.) Did you like the main character Hazel? What about Augustus Waters?
I loved them, but what I really loved was that Augustus made me love Hazel more. I REALLY loved Augustus.

3.)Did you cry at any time throughout the book?
I expected to cry more than I did. I guess going into it knowing it was sad, I was more ready for it. Because usually I'm a big cry baby.

4.) Out of curiosity, did you get a signed copy of the book?
YES! It was a birthday present from my sister! Along with a few other signed books! It was awesome!

Alisha (booksandthingswithalisha) | 261 comments Mod
That's awesome that you got the book signed! What other books did you get signed?

I pretty much enjoyed all of the books we have read thus far, still working on Cinder and The Hunger Games Trilogy...next week will be all about reading for me, I guess. Trying to get caught up (and study for final exams) Hope your class is going well, Kayelee.

I've read Cinder, so I am totally ready for the discussion! I'm also putting some feelers out for the book to see what people are interested in reading. :-)

I read pretty much anything in the YA section, but right now I'm hoping that whoever picks the May book pick has something that I already have, because I'm on a book buying ban until I read the majority of my TBR pile (140 books). I can check my library for the books, but being in a small town they are not guaranteed to have it.

I don't know we will have to see.

Also Congratulations Kayla on making Admin!

Kayelee Rock (kayeleerock) | 120 comments Mod
I recieved Hunted by DJ DeSmyter, Carrier of the Mark, and Possess. I *think* that's it. It's good to be a YArebel and have a sister who is a YAtopia blogger. Lol

Yes it seemed kayla had quite a good fix on things we can do to improve the group, so it was a natural choice. ;)

Alisha (booksandthingswithalisha) | 261 comments Mod
Yeah that's good. I have asked a couple of friends and some classmates that read the YA genre if they would be interested in joining the group, I think one of my Friends joined.

Kayla Beck Kalnasy (kaylabeck) | 153 comments Mod
Thanks, guys. :-) I really enjoy the group, and I want it to do well. I figure if I'm not discussing, I should at least be advertising. Hopefully the book for May won't be one that I'll have to worry about making me cry. :-P

Kayelee, Random.Org picked you as the winner of this month's discussion. DM your address on Twitter, and I'll send you a finished copy of Trafficked by Kim Purcell . :-)

Kayla that's awesome!

I enjoy this book club enough to do what I can to keep it going. Gracious knows how hard you and Kayelee work.:-)

Dum (dummg) Okay, I know this is an older post but I just finished this book today and oh my fricking god... my feelings are still in a jumbled mess! I was actually trying to quote a part of the ending to my friend an hour or so after I finished and I could not because I just started bawling my eyes out all over again at the ending. It was perfect.

I cried like a huge baby at the end especially, but quite a few times I was tearing up throughout the book. This is probably the first book I've ever read that had me laughing one page, crying my eyes out the next, and then laughing again a page later. John Green messes with my emotions like no other!

I did not get a signed copy, and I plan to someday get all of my JG books signed! He is my favourite YA author. :)

I actually loved every little detail of this book. There is not a single thing I thought was wrong with it, but again I'm a huge John Green fangirl and he can do no wrong by me!

Kayelee Rock (kayeleerock) | 120 comments Mod
Thanks guys I'm so excited to read it!

Kali- I felt the same way. There were times when I was both laughing and crying!

1.) What did you think of the book overall? Where you excited to read this book?
I LOVED this book! I laughed and cried, and wanted to quote half the book. The writing style was amazing (as I would expect from John Green) and the dialouge alive and engaging and full of emotion (as I would expect from John Green).

2.) Did you like the main character Hazel? What about Augustus Waters?
The characters were so very alive and engaging and relatable and loveable (just as I would expect from John Green).

3.)Did you cry at any time throughout the book?
Yes! But I laughed more than I cried, which wasn't what I was expecting. I expected a book fraght with tragedy, but John Green managed to mix the good with the bad.

4.) Out of curiosity, did you get a signed copy of the book?
No :(
