Opinions on Sister Mary Joseph Praise and her relationship with Thomas Stone:
Her voyage to Adis Ababa seems so difficult and painful and yet so much is unexplained. The care she shows for Thomas on the sea voyage and for the other travelers is extraordinary. Thomas Stone seems particularly dense, and he just absorbs the love and care from Sister. Such selfishness and ego. What destruction that causes. Her love and devotion to Stone seems simply to be an extension of her love and devotion to Jesus. She sees him as a savior, and he is, but so flawed.
Opinions on the setting and for Matron:
I've never studied much about Ethiopia or it's history. I find it fascinating and disturbing. Such a different world that exists. What the people who live there endure, seemingly without question - and what would they question. They are so grateful for the care they receive at Missing. And I love the story of how it's name came to be. Also, I knew very little about the practice of the christian faith in this part of the world. I love the character of Matron - she fascinates me. Such a robust, practical faith.
