Carolin I was at prison in Cyprus with Tony Anthony. Den Tiger zähmen by Tony Anthony

Carolin The audiobook Zur Bösen Nacht Stimmen Aus Der Schattenwelt ; Lesungen by Christiane Paul took me to a creepy Scotland. I liked it, the voices of the narrators were matching with the frightening atmosphere of the classic horror/mystery stories.

message 9: by Carolin (last edited Apr 23, 2012 07:26AM) (new)

Carolin I visited Northern Ireland with Killian, the hero (well, not so much) of this book: Ein letzter Job by Adrian McKinty

I liked it, it was thrilling and the end was creative. But the language was not so nice...

total now: 21 countries

message 10: by Carolin (new)

Carolin The book Im Land der Orangenblüten by Linda Belago took me to Suriname when it was still a Dutch colony. I have to admit that I've never heard of that country before I touched the book ;)
It was a nice story about a young girl (Julie) being married to a Dutch colonist in Suriname who is violent. In the foreign and exotic country she fights for the rights of the slaves, finds love and friends...it was not only romantic but also thrilling (lots of accidents and crimes).

message 11: by Carolin (new)

Carolin With the classic Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe by Daniel Defoe I spent some time on a Carribbean island...which was quite nice as we have cold rainy weather here in Germany ;)

message 12: by Carolin (new)

Carolin I've had a wonderful time with Berit and Nils in Norway. It was mystical, cute and just about loving books. A great audiobook: Bibbi Bokkens magische Bibliothek by Jostein Gaarder

message 13: by Carolin (new)

Carolin Have had difficulties with sorting "Robinson Crusoe" to a country and I've seen you didn't count it. Can I count it for Carribbean in general or shall I better delete it?

message 14: by Diane , Armchair Tour Guide (new)

Diane | 13052 comments I'm sorry, I totally missed that one. The setting is generally thought to be on the island of Tobago in the Caribbean, based on the geographical description given in the book (north of Venezuela and in sight of Trinidad). The story itself is thought to be based on a man's experiences of being stranded on an island off the coast of Chile, now known as Robinson Crusoe Island.

message 15: by Carolin (new)

Carolin Thank you for your quick response! Okay, then I'll change it into a book for Trinidad and Tobago :)

message 16: by Carolin (new)

Carolin Da Chen told about his childhood in China in the book Die Farben des Berges by Da Chen (english:Colors of the Mountain) While the historical and social backgrounds were very interesting, I really didn't like young Da's personality through the whole book and the language was too crude in my opinion, too.

Woohoo, now I've read a book from all the 8 regions of the world...let's see if I can find something for Antarctica, too ;)

message 17: by Carolin (new)

Carolin And another question :)

I've just finished a book by two German authors that takes place in Occitania. Now, Occitania is no official country but it's a region that's stretched out from northern Spain via southern France to western Italy and even if it doesn't have an independent government it's united in language, culture and history. And having in mind that Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales count seperately, I wondered if Occitania will fit into this challenge or if it better won't.

This is the book: Tote Fische beißen nicht by Auerbach & Keller

I'll accept it.

Carolin Thank you!

In my last book Das Spiel (Das Tal Season 1, #1) by Krystyna Kuhn I joined a group at Grace College, which is situated in a mysterious valley in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Carolin Thomas Lieven travelled a lot as a secret service agent for different countries in this book: Es muß nicht immer Kaviar sein by Johannes Mario Simmel (in English: It Can't Always Be Caviar). One year he spent in Lissabon, Portugal, hiding from nearly every other secret service.

PS: The Melon and Champagne was very good :) Ice-cold and perfect for a hot summer evening!

message 21: by Carolin (new)

Carolin In An der schönen blauen Donau by Günter Spranger a Jewish detective in Vienna, Austria, works on a case in which former SS officers are involved. One murder was a bit too far from reality, but still it was a thrilling and surprising crime novel.

message 22: by Carolin (new)

Carolin Aravind Adiga told a cruel but touching story of a corrupt and dirty Mumbai in Letzter Mann im Turm by Aravind Adiga .

message 23: by Carolin (new)

Carolin Göran Tunström drew a very sad, very poetic, very ironic and very unusual story about the relationship of a father and son, situated in a grey, cold, strong and chliché-y Iceland in Der Mondtrinker by Göran Tunström

message 24: by Carolin (new)

Carolin In Willkommen auf Skios by Michael Frayn everyone on a small Greek island, from two taxi drivers, ex-girlfriends and PAs to Russian mafiosi and a doctor in management of science, was totally confused. A very funny read!

message 25: by Carolin (new)

Carolin Amanda Sthers told a sad and very touching story about the last two Jews in Kabul, religious fanatism, love and friendship, the ruling of men over women, rape and the Holocaust...and all that in this small book: Die Geisterstraße by Amanda Sthers . A little too much in my opinion but the writing style was very soft (velvet-y) and poetic.

message 26: by Carolin (new)

Carolin In Der träumende Delphin by Sergio Bambarén I swam with Daniel Dolphin through the sea off the coast of Peru.

message 27: by Carolin (new)

Carolin After a long no-travel-time the German-Swedish police officer Stina Forss took me with her whilst she was looking for hints in Jerusalem throughout her investigation of a murder in Sweden. That's the book: Später Frost by Roman Voosen

message 28: by Carolin (new)

Carolin After a long time visiting "known" countries, I've just returned from Nagasaki, Japan, where this book took me to: Eine Liebe In Nagasaki by Frederik Hetmann

message 29: by Carolin (new)

Carolin I followed the traces of yetis in the mountains of Nepal in this book: Esau by Philip Kerr
