Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments Hmmm, I may need some help choosing a book for this. I don't generally do funnies. But very clever you two :-)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments If I can get it in time, I am going to read Chomp by Carl Hiaasen Chomp.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I am going to try to jump in on this one : ) I will have to rummage through the bookshelves/kindle to find something : )

message 9: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I'm also going to read a Discworld book with Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett :-)

message 10: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I picked up a book from a used book store that was on my wishlist, They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?. I can't wait to start reading it.

That one looks good :)

That's a great book. All of Pat McManus's are!

message 13: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) My son and I enjoyed the two by McManus we read together, too. I think it helps to have some outdoorsy-ness in your background, but my son relates to these just by a few little stories I tell about his grandpa and uncles.

message 15: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I'm in! I just read Bear Meets Girl (Pride, #7) by Shelly Laurenston , which would have been perfect as I was laughing out loud in public. Oh well, I'll find another one ;-)

message 16: by Snoozie Suzie (new)

Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments I am reading Diary of a Menopausal Woman by Cheryl Reid, Toby Williams, Lizzi Easyburn. I have chuckled a few times.

message 17: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Does anyone know of older books that would get at least one point? Anything, really?

Also... I'm in Australia... and will be here on Hug An Australian Day, which is frankly very interesting.

message 18: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Older, as in freely downloadable from gutenberg.org?

Anything by O. Henry is clever enough to get a chuckle out of me. Or maybe something by Mark Twain, for example A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Maybe you can find a collection of humorous verse by Ogden Nash or Edward Lear.

message 19: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Exactly that, Cheryl. Some day I might not have to worry about that, but for the moment, gutenberg-age books are the only sort I have access to.

I'll probably be reading Mark Twain. And since I hated A Connecticut Yankee when I started it two years ago, I'll try it out again this year.

And if I really don't like it... I have a A Tramp Abroad, which is longer.

message 20: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) If you want more ideas, feel free to ask!

message 21: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Sure thing. Thanks again!

Yes - I was pulled in by the title!

message 24: by Amy *Waitforit* (new)

Amy *Waitforit* I've chosen 666 Charing Cross Road by Paul Magrs It's Gothic Humour, and I just finished Never the Bride (Brenda and Effie Mystery #1) by Paul Magrs by the same author and loved it.

message 25: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Yes, he does!

But a really interesting thing is that I'm suddenly confronting humor books here... and not a single author has a first name beginning with L,A,U,G, or H!

Examples:

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
Babyhood by Paul Reiser
Tramps Abroad by Mark Twain

Oh well. XD

I am going to do this one also - is my plane read when I fly out tomorrow - but I reckon that you can get 2 points for adventure as Stephanie's antics are just one adventure after another and this time she is in Hawaii)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Nah I'm fine with the points I gave it. It's not really an adventure book in my opinion :)

yeah - you're probably right - haven't read it yet though - flying out in a few hours and it is my travel read :)

Kimberly | 2033 comments It's the perfect travel book :D Have a safe flight!

message 34: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I'm reading A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore by Christopher Moore. I'm not one to laugh out loud over a book (maybe cry a little but that's about it), but this one has some very absurdly funny lines and situations. My husband has caught me chuckling. Oh dear.

message 35: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Moore's pretty popular - my husband likes most everything he writes; I liked Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove.

message 36: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I'll have to try that one next. Moore seems to be quite irreverant in his choices of subject matter.

message 37: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I loved Lust Lizard. The only one I didn't like was Fool.

message 38: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I agree about Fool. :(

message 39: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I must say, I probably never would have found and read some of the books I have, if it hadn’t been for Goodreads. My to-read list wouldn’t be nearly as long as it is, authors I have never heard of wouldn’t be considered, genres would be left unexplored. I had never heard of Christopher Moore until I came across him here and I’m so glad I did. Now I have even more to add to my list. It just keeps growing. At least I’ll never be bored.

I've got you beat by a very long mile. I have 2584 books on my TBR list and it's still growing. I don't discriminate. :)

message 41: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I can’t imaging paring down my TBR list. I figure if I put it there, the book must have sounded interesting at the time, so it stays. At the rate I add to the list and the number I already have waiting, I’ll be reading well past my 90s. I’m not concerned about reaching that age, just staying awake long enough to finish the books. ;)

message 42: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Roz I've got you beat with over 7,000 on my TBR list :D

message 44: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I absolutely am :D

message 45: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments Being a book junkie works for me, too.

message 46: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments I've got 650ish on my list, but I'm happy with the number and hoping not to add too many more. I'd like to actually read the books I've put on that list while still being able to relax with a book I've just found, that will not 'help' me in any way.

Like a romance book. XD

And I am so glad I'm a book junkie, rather than anything else. Possibly the best thing to be addicted to, right?

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I did something in bed last night that I haven't done in a very long time!

I laughed uncontrollably at a chapter in They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?. It was about a dog named Strange who had an encounter with a skunk.

LOL I'm a firm believer in doing it in every room of the house. Even the kitchen!☻

message 49: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments My sister used to do that but I think she was practicing her smile in case she ever became a big star. Didn't happen.
