Pickle | 87 comments my hero would be a nobody in a realm of wild countryside, creature oddities, 1 great city and a few wee towns/village.

He would somehow steal all the kings cash with a ploy that would make Locke Lamora jealous, then make his escape out through the city, the countryside to a port to escape on a boat while battling/hiding from armies, spies and freaky creatures to make his escape.

I would love to end the book in the way Al Pacino's character in Carlito's Way got unexpectedly killed.

meant to add that this is a great subject for a thread!

Nico Crisostomo (esseh) My hero would be a nobody too. He would do great things but would not be famous and be king, or rich, etc. He'd go back to being who and what he was in the end.

Eli Adelholm (eliadelholm) | 46 comments Well, I am actually writing a fantasy book..

My hero is an arrogant high born man named Calhoun, who leaves the secluded mountain kingdom he has grown up in, only to become the leader of a broken and downtrodden people (whom he doesn't really like) who is being oppressed by the kingdoms of the north, which he then goes on to wage war against. Furthermore he is a deeply antireligious man in a thoroughly religious world. His political views are rather fascistic which makes him a cruel but strong leader.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Well, since you brought it up...I wrote (three) fantasy novels (one in publication, second one upcoming). One of the protagonists is a changeling who was kidnapped by a group of shape-shifters with the intention of raising him to become breeding stock. Another is the women he, himself, kidnapped when she was a child. Her kidnapping (and subsequent escape) changes her worldview enough that she's open to looking into information that challenges the traditional mindset of the society she lives in.

I like to create capable but realistic female characters. I've got a few archetypes in there, too, though.

Matt I would go all old school redwall and have a badass honey badger in it.

Nick Marsden (nepharid) | 27 comments Matt, I wish I could like your comment. Honey badgers rock!

Nick Marsden (nepharid) | 27 comments One of the most interesting characters in my book is a woman who has abused so badly by the villain that she's developed multiple personalities and schizophrenia. She can read minds, but most of the voices she hears are in her own head. Her mind is so shattered by both her powers and what has been done to her that she can't even remember who she really is or where she came from.

She's kind of badass in that she kicks the protagonist's butt a couple of times.
