The Making of a Man discussion

I shared this first paragraph for MM5 on my facebook and I thought those of you not a friend of mine there might enjoy it as well.

I want to Grow Old with You

Alex stood beside the bed, forearm braced on the wall over the headboard, watching Jared sleep. A few white strands had finally dared to salt themselves through is dark auburn hair matching the silver at his temples. Alex rarely noticed the gray. It didn’t make him look old, no one ever put Jared at fifty, much less his real his very real fifty-seven. Alex reached out to touch the silk of Jared’s hair, but thought better of it and pulled back his hand. Jared needed his rest. Instead Alex continued to watch taking comfort in each breath. Jared’s naturally pale skin never tanned well, but the sight of his current unnatural pallor against the dark blue of the pillowcase constricted Alex’s heart making it painful to breathe. The stark visual an uncompromising reminder of how long Jared had been out of the sun inevitably brought back to Alex’s mind the afternoon he’d come home to find Jared lying in a pool of his own blood.

That is awesome Diane. I want more. My heart is racing just reading this and not knowing what is wrong with Jared!

I'm digging into the story hard now and I'll share bits and pieces along the way. I hope to be ready to submit by two weeks from today, so you if you don't hear much out of me, no worries I'm playing with the boys!

Diane, approximately how long does it take you to write one of the Making of a Man novels? I realize each book takes a different amount of time to create, but is there a ballpark "guesstimate" you could give us?
