Challenge: 50 Books discussion

I had already set a goal for myself to read a book each week when LizB told me about this group. I've already started....I've read 5 books in the last 5 weeks. I'm hoping to do a mix of fiction/non-fiction and this looks like a great way to stay on track and get ideas for new books to read!

OK I think I would like to tackle this too. With a toddler I finally have time to read more then the newspaper and magazines again! I have to finish the Twilight series before the new year and then onward and upward!

I just joined good reads today hoping to get great ideas for books in 2009. I have a long TBR list and I think this is just the group I need for 2009. I'm up for a 50 book in a year challenge this will be great.

Hi! I just joined, too. I'm finishing up (today) my 41st book for 2008. But I've read 21 of those just in the past 3 months alone, so I'm thinking I can make it to 50 in 2009. I, too, am trying to whittle down my huge TBR pile!

I am going to try this for 2009 too. I am new to this group but not new to goodreads. I think this will be a fun challenge.

Welcome to you all! Good luck and happy posting. It's really fun to see what everyone is reading. There is a trivia game on Goodreads that is really fun. When I do the trivia I get new ideas for books to read that I would never have thought of. In fact, that is why I read the Twilight books...there were so many questions about them I got curious.

Hi! I just started today too because I tried to reach 50 in 2008 and will do it again (and succeed) this year!!! = D

I just joined the group. It sounds like a good idea. I don't have trouble being motivated to read but I don't know if I can do 50 in 12 months, we'll see. Which year do you count a book in if you finished more than half of it in the new year?

I just joined this group (I stumbled upon it somehow, can't recall how, it's been in my bookmarks for awhile anyhow) and I'm going to try my best to hit 50. I fell awfully short this year; 23 books read. I read that many during my summer holiday in '07 =/ Oh well, fingers crossed for '09 I guess :D

One of my friends turn me onto this group. I think that it is a great idea. I can't wait to get started!

My 1st book of 2009 is Suite Francaise.

I recently chatted with someone who just gave a stellar review to Suite Francaise on their blog and I think I will be borrowing it from my mom very soon! There is also an exhibit in NYC through March about the author and her work = http://www.mjhnyc.org/irene/index.html

Amy - I hope you like Suite Francaise. I really enjoyed it. Fire in the Blood, by her, is also pretty good.

I just joined. Quick question: do we comic book collections as books? Last year I read 77 books, if you include the entire Y: The Last Man Series in books that collected the whole series and a bunch of Batman collections.

I think you can count whatever you want - it's your list after all. Some people don't count books they re-read, some do. Some count children's books, come don't. Some count books read for school, some don't.

I'm back in this year.

I face the same conundrum. For me, it depends on the length of the graphic novel or collection. Something like "Watchmen" I count as one book. I will group others together, like when I pick up a trade paperback collection of Spider-Man comics or I will lump together a couple of trade collections into one book. But that's just how I do it and shouldn't be take as the "right" or "wrong" way...

I've just joined myself! Do we update others with books we've read or leave behind reviews? This is the first time I've joined an active group with such a lofty goal!

Create a folder for yourself in the A-E discussion board and in there you create your list. It can be just the name of the book and author or you can add a your thoughts or link to your review of them or whatever you want.

If you click on other people's folders you can get an idea of all the different ways people set them up.

In the thread you establish for your list of books you can be as active or detailed as you want to be. Some people include their reviews or a link to their reviews. Some people simply list their books. Molly described it perfectly. Good luck :)
