Tuklas Pahina (TP) | 3 comments Is it true that chess openings dictates you to win a game? Is there a pattern on what opening to use to take advantage in every game?
(for sure there are exceptions if your opponent is a genius)

Gary Patella | 2 comments The opening played, as long as it is sound, will not decide the game. However, there are openings that are riskier than others. Although those openings, if played correctly by both sides, still cannot decide the game, the risky nature of some openings (e.g. King's Gambit) means that a draw is less likely.

So the opening can give a somewhat greater or lesser chance of a draw. But it cannot determine which side wins. Those things are determined in the middle game and the endgame (with the rare exception being opening traps, swindles, and blunders).

My favourite opening is also the king's gambit, usually I crush black relatively fast...
