Bethany Hello everyone! Our book for April is Partials!! I have not yet read it, it's waiting on my phone, but I'm not sure I'll have time to read it this month. If someone has read it already and would like to post some discussion questions, that would be both helpful and welcome :) otherwise, just give us a little mini review and share what you thought of the book- likes and dislikes, plot, characters...all that fun stuff!!!

Please remember- THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!!

Tim (djkilo) | 38 comments I'm not sure if this is how you guys do discussions or not but here's how I feel about Partials for far.

So far I really enjoy the characters. Kira and Marcus seem like an awesome pair. Not too clingy, just chill and comfortable. I like how it didn't take long for action to start and without getting too overboard but just enough to keep my heart rate elevated a little bit. I feel the story already has me wondering about certain things that are going on that will certainly be revealed at some point in the story, which keeps me reading, guessing and thinking when I'm not reading the book. I think so far Partials is going pretty awesome even though I'm only nine chapters in.

Bethany Yeah, I have to add to that. I'm only about 2 chaps in, but the one thing I love is that our MC starts out with a boyfriend. It is so refreshing not to go through the whole googley eyes, intense attraction and "oh, he's all I can think about!" THANK YOU, Dan Wells, for skipping over that part!

Tim (djkilo) | 38 comments YES! Like they do obviously show emotion and attration to each other during the book but its not overdone in any kind of way. In fact it makes me feel how i like relationships to be :)

BUT Now even further on .... IT GETS ACTION PACKED!! And I'm not even half way done, so I can only imagine what is coming in the next half of the book!

Partials has already got my two thumbs half way up!

SO good!

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) My favorite thing about Marcus was his humor. Very clever writing. Being an adult who reads alot of dystopian YA novels I enjoyed the more adult feeling to this book.

Tim (djkilo) | 38 comments ***SPOILER ALERT! DON'T READ IF YOU DIDN'T FINISH!***

This story was amazing! There was obviously SO much research put into this novel, Kira is such A passionate heart driven character that you can't help but love the way she puts in her all for curing RM. I really found the other characters such as Marcus, Jayden, Xochi were very entertaining and all had very well portrayed personalities, I would love to have friends like them around. I found myself always excited whenever there were chapters that included Samm. Samm was just so interesting to me as a Partial, because I figured the partials would act very robotic or nonhuman, but the more I learned about how the partials actually functioned was actually really interesting and kept me excited to read about.
Honestly I guessed WAYYY before that Kira was a partial. I just knew that it was coming, so the twist wasn't very surprising at all for me. That action through the story was really entertaining, I kinda wished there was more blood and gore, but that's cause i just finished Battle Royale by Koushun Takami not too long ago hahaha

All in all though this book was kick ass! Can't wait for the sequel to come out! 5 out of 5 from me!

~Tim

Sherri Arnold | 2 comments I didn't enjoy Partials as much as I thought I would. It was a little slow to get going although it did have some good action disperses here and there. Kira was a stubborn character, but for the good. It was strange to me that there were so many teenagers in high power jobs, such as the senate and research for the cure. Samm was a great character, really made you pull for him. I think Marcus and Kira's relationship was very lukewarm, especially on Kira's side. She was ripe (view spoiler)

Jen (baynej) | 169 comments This book was interesting with a few similarities between Partials and Cylons from BSG (can't help but compare the two). While the Cylons and BSG are massively character driven, the Partials were more "beings" without a lot of human traits and emotions. The book itself was interesting, complex, a good story that really moved well, but the characters weren't as flushed out as I would have hoped. While I did admire Kira's goal of saving the human race, she was a little one dimensional. I saw her fate coming, but it was done in a way that played well with the rest of the story. I can't help but imagine that we'll get more of her backstory and creation in the next installment.

Tawna | 11 comments I enjoyed this book. Sooooo (view spoiler). I thought the banter back and forth between Marcus and Kira was funny and the information on the virus well thought out.

Hmmmm, the ending sentence "Find the Trust" was intriguing!!! (view spoiler)

Anywho, I am sad to have to wait for the next book because I want to know what else is going on! :)

Heather Chang I did not enjoy this book at all and it's the first book I have read from this book group that I did not like. I found the premise of Kira being assigned this high level job of figuring out the cure to the disease absurd given her age, lack of experience and training. I thought the story was tedious and have no plans to read any sequels.
