Who do you call? I tried doing it online, and it keeps freezing up saying they're having techincal issues. I still definitely want to go.
True. Sucks to pay when you thought you were going for free, and NYC is already so expensive ... Maybe they're trying to cut down the number of attendees?

They won't refuse people who registered as Non-Editorial Media. It's Editorial/Press Media who got refused.
What does the email say that you got, Krystal? Copy and paste it.

Thank you for submitting your Press application to attend BEA as a working member of the media. Unfortunately you did not meet the standards that are required to qualify for a Press Pass. The standards have been determined for BEA by our exhibitors as to what are considered benchmarks of a professional "press credential". We review all applications very carefully due to limits on the number of press passes that are issued. Unfortunately, your application does not meet the guidelines we have been given in order to maintain the expected standard of trade and general media. We greatly appreciate your time and consideration, hoping you can still participate in BEA or follow the coverage through our video and podcast initiatives.
Best regards, -R
Roger Bilheimer
BEA Public Relations Director
Not sure why this posted "funny"...but I just checked my registration, says I registered as non-editorial media? They sent me an ebadge for non-editorial media?
Nope, you applied for the free pass - Editorial Media. You can still apply and be accepted right away, but you have to pay $159. I got the exact same email.

BBC is the book blogger con ... which is no longer called that but BEA Blogger's Conference ... and they no longer get the free access to the exhibits.

I haven't gotten the e-mail yet, and though I registered as non-editorial... I thought I did it wrong (back in January) and switched to Editorial. Have no idea if I'm going to get revoked. Scared!

Only thing I can think of is they decided not to let as many bloggers in as free press.

Just in case you didn't see it, BEA posted on their blog about the situation:

Apparently if BEA doesn't consider you a media 'blogger' (ie: you got a rejection email) then BBC (now BEA Blogger's Con) doesn't consider you media blogger and thus you have to pay for both BBC and BEA as two individual pricetags.
Which is stupid since HELLO why would you go to a blogger conference if you weren't a blogger?

I just got an email saying they're comping me a non-editorial media badge.
Email them if you have a problem, but for God's sake, don't yell, curse or be rude. Kindness goes a long way and will get you further.
Feel free to vent and bitch here as needed.

"Shanese,
I'm writing to you today in regards to the press decline email that you received from me this past Thursday.
On behalf of BEA, I wanted to apologize for the confusion this email may have caused. We realize that we did not notify you in a timely fashion regarding your press credentials for BEA 2012 and for that we are sorry. Because this was a mistake on our part, we want to let you know that you will retain your status as a registered member of the press for BEA 2012. You do not have to do anything. Your confirmation number remains valid."
Yep, those e-mails went out to everyone today if they were declined outside of the two week notice period. :) All is good in the BEA world once again... Now only if they would update their schedule with all the amazing authors that will be attending!! :)

isn't this what you registered as? It means that you didn't have to pay to access the exhibit floor. Everything else, like bbc and author breakfasts you would need to pay for.

Ideally I think press pass holders are there not just to review books, but also to review BEA as an event.

I agree, Hannah! I'm sure they love everyone getting really pumped on it and talking about it beforehand as well
