Passant (cool_baby) | 32 comments both books are set in the future and are packed full of action, adventure and distinct love.
which do you prefer most and why??

i honestly prefer the hunger games, my opinion may be bais since i only read the first books of each series but even though both books contained such a strong hold on me from the begining, the hunger games made me feel as if i was inside the book with katniss. the hunger games also held a stronger hold on me at the end than divergent but that is my opinon what do u guys think??

message 2: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimmylam88) | 14 comments I prefer Hunger Games as it is one of the books that does not totally focused on romance until near the end of 2nd book. I love romance but Hunger Games brings a fresh change after Twilight and all...~
Divergent series on the other hand, is not complete yet. I need to complete the whole series before i can decide which is the best series.
Therefore currently Hunger Games is still my fave series! (^.^)

message 3: by chinami (new)

chinami Both. Can't decide.

message 4: by Kennedi (new)

Kennedi That, my friend, is an impossible question. Bothe are amazing, but in their own ways.

message 5: by Emily (new)

Emily D (fallingforya) | 7 comments I feel like I have to read the entire Divergent series before I can answer this question. Its kind of unfair to compare Hunger Games a finished series to Divergent which has only released 1, well almost 2, books.

i agree. it's hard to compare until the series is complete.

Astoria (astoriamalfoy) | 31 comments I personally, couldn't get into the Hunger Games. I tried reading the first book, and could only go as far as chapter 3.
And while I didn't love Divergent with ardent fervor, I did enjoy it.

Kind of hard to not be biased when I haven't read the Hunger Games, but I count the fact I actually finished Divergent on its favor, and Beatrice becoming Tris was very can't think of the right word.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Divergent better... In the hunger games the first book was amazing, but the next 2 were a huge let down... divergent on the other hand... the second was just as good as the first.

message 9: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 61 comments Tough call. I'd probably say its even on book 1, both were amazing!! I probably liked Catching fire slightly more than Insurgent but didn't like Mockingjay as much so we'll see if Ms Roth can put out the better third book!! Can't wait :)

message 10: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 18 comments At the moment I prefer Hunger Games but that could easily be changed if the next book is really good so I'll decide next year :)

message 11: by Jeds (new)

Jeds (jedaiaries) Divergent, as a series, is not yet done so they can't be compared just yet. But well, for argument's sake, I choose Divergent. :)

message 12: by Michael (new)

Michael Hansen That may be the hardest question ever but I'll choose divergent

message 13: by Ally (new)

Ally I agree with the argument that a decision can't be made before the Divergent trilogy is complete. Because if it were first books only, I wouldn't be able to make a choice - they are both such amazing books in their own rights.

As long as Veronica Roth doesn't pull a Mockingjay-size blunder in her last book, Divergent will be a clear winner. Plus, I just love the characters in Divergent so much more.

message 14: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 61 comments Thanks Ally :) So true, hard to really decide it until the series is complete :)

message 15: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (moosubi) | 57 comments Based on the first book completely, I'm going to have to say Divergent. I'm still a big fan of The Hunger Games, but after reading Battle Royale I'm not too sure what to think. I'm probably going to have to go reread all three books.

But still, both of the books are amazing(: & I also have to read Insurgent sometime - I had a copy since the beginning of May, but I haven't had a chance to read it! Hopefully it's as amazing as the first.

S.L.J. (sammyslj) | 12 comments Divergant didn't make much sense to me and Hunger Games will never live up to Battle Royale so I'll call it a draw.

That's what I was first thinking, but to be honest, I don't remember Divergent enough to say that it's better than The Hunger Games. Battle Royale, on the other hand, was amazing and complex, and in my opinion, so many times better than The Hunger Games

I can't choose.
I love Divergent and The Hunger Games.

All the factions made no sense. Why have them?

Apprently there is going to be a Battle Royale TV series.

From what I remember, the factions had something to do with political power and purposes. *scurries to reread* I don't really remember, to be honest, but I know I liked it last year because I liked action.

Battle Royale as an American TV series seems a little odd to me, though. I don't mean to be racist, but are they going to be able to find enough Asian actors to play the part? I'd hate for that book to be "Americanized" (I actually read both versions - English & Japanese, and I liked the Japanese better).

But anyways, I'm still not sure about Divergent. I'll probably make up my mind after I reread the book & read Insurgent. It's great to hear your thoughts though :D

message 21: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Despite Divergent not being finished yet, I like it a lot more. The characters are better, the plot, the setting, the atmosphere, everything.

message 22: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Levitt (rebashk) | 35 comments I think Divergent is 100,000 times better. Just the way it’s written and the fact it’s just SO well developed!

message 23: by S.L.J. (new)

S.L.J. (sammyslj) | 12 comments For people trying to promote unity, it's a little odd that they'd divide them into different factions that clash with each other so much. That's a sure fire way to promote unrest and disharmony.

The whole Divergant world makes no sense.

message 24: by Jalyn (last edited Aug 12, 2012 11:01AM) (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 91 comments Divergent, hands down. While I absolutely loved The Hunger Games, Catching Fire was only ok, and I didn't like Mockingjay much at all. Divergent and Insurgent are equally as good for me :)

message 25: by Halo (new)

Halo (haloslibrary) For what it's worth I think both books are great, the hunger games trilogy is fascinating and the divergent trilogy is amazing. I can't really judge the divergent trilogy because Veronica Roth still did not publish the last book in the trilogy. So until then I would say I love both books and I would recommend them to anyone who is into dystopians :)

message 26: by Stephani (new)

Stephani (lolitasue) | 7 comments I love both books. but i would have to say divergent.

message 27: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michym0210) | 1 comments While I would like to wait for the Divergent series to finish, I'd have to go with The Hunger Games my all-time fave series. These books introduced me to sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, YA books. Sci-fi is now my fave genre because of The Hunger Games. They intruduced me to Divergent, that's not the only reason why though.

message 28: by Diana (new)

Diana | 15 comments i really liked the hunger games the first time i read it, but then the love triangle was very annoying and kind of unnecessary, especially since gale only started loving katniss once peeta said she did. four and tris's relationship is amazing.
also, insurgent was much better than catching fire and mocking jay was terrible. i'm sorry, but it was. the series was bearable the first time you read it, but then after you read the hunger games a second time, you start thinking, "maybe this isn't as good as i thought it was....". i just couldnt' stand to read it more than twice, while i've read divergent over, and over, and over and i still love it. insurgent is the same. insurgent isn't as good as divergent, but there is always that problem with sequels...but the plot is still really good as are the characters.
just, trust me. i dare you to read divergent and insurgent, and then read the hunger games again. it's not as good. a good dystopian novel concept, inspired a lot of other stories and a good movie and all, but it just falls flat. katniss especially doesn't match up to tris.

message 29: by Diana (new)

Diana | 15 comments *once peeta said HE did.

message 30: by Ela (new)

Ela THG, Divergent was okay but there was too much of a focus on the romance...

message 31: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Barron (Valeriekristen) | 4 comments thats hard probably...... both! haha i guess my favorite would be the hunger games but i really liked divergent too.

message 32: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) Tough one..both are good.. THG is more thrilling.. but the conclusion is disappointing.. still gave 4 stars though for epilogue. :)

message 33: by Morgan (last edited Nov 22, 2012 09:30AM) (new)

Morgan DIVERGENT! I personally did not like THG the second book was good and I couldn't even finish the 3rd one so this is quite of an easy choice

message 34: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (blkel14) | 3 comments Divergent! I am currently reading it and LOVE it so far! I tried starting THG, but it just hasn't pulled me in yet. I'll have to reattempt reading it, but for the moment, I say Divergent!

message 35: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean I read all of the Hunger Games books and they are one of my favorite series. I haven't read Divergent yet but from the synopsis I read it sound alot like the Hunger games.

I;m Gonna go with the Hunger Games are better. I see if I change my mind when I read Divergent

aimee (aimeecanread) (aimeecanread) I'll definitely go with The Hunger Games. Tris (from Divergent) annoyed me. Especially in the second book. I don't know why, but she seemed too emotional.

Tris/Four didn't give me any thrill whatsoever. They were just... them.

Katniss/Peeta, while they're not my favorite couple, are sweet, caring and oh-so-cute.

Also, I didn't see much point with the factions in Divergent. Well, why would the Dauntless jump off stuff just to prove their worth. It's kind of useless to find more recruits if they're going to die, anyway.

message 37: by Kelly (new)

Kelly This question should not even be asked. This is a hard decision. I love BOTH books. Both had a really great plot. I feel like I would be betraying another if i choose. :(

message 38: by Stephani (new)

Stephani (lolitasue) | 7 comments I love them both tho! AGH WHY DAMNIT WHY! *Biteing Nails* ok ok ok Divergent....no The Hunger Games...Dammit i say BOTH!

message 39: by Stephy (new)

Stephy | 1 comments Oh wow this is really hard to choose, I love both. Honestly, right now I'd wait until the final book in the Divergent series comes out and then compare that to the hunger games' ending.
