Should I read this book?

I have read the first two Dexter novels and really liked them, especially the second one: I really like Dexter's humour and characterisation, as well as how the books lead us to sympathize with a serial killer - which is somewhat unnerving, especially since he truly seems to be unable to have feelings, much more than in the TV series.
However, I've read some very negative reviews around the web for this third book and I am a bit scared about the supernatural element that seems to be much stronger here (I already disliked the small hints in book 1).
I am really torn: I like the character, I like Lindsay 's writing - simple, but very entertaining, and I usually like to finish a series when I start it.
Is this book worth reading, or will it be a waste of time? And will it ruin the series for me?

It totally ruined the series for me. I hated the supernatural element and if you didn't like the supernatural leanings in the first, you really won't like how in your face it is in the second. I tried reading the 4th after finishing the 3rd and gave up fairly quickly. My heart wasn't in it anymore.
If you like Lindsay's Dexter (as opposed to Showtime's Dexter), then you might like it. The series has a lot of the supernatural floating around in the background, and I figured it was just a matter of time before Lindsay brought it out in a more explicit manner. (I was expecting it to happen later, like after four or five books, but Lindsay didn't wait that long.)
Now, personally, I liked the supernatural aspect. It seemed silly to have this Dark Passenger providing supernatural assistance to Dexter while trying to pretend that there's nothing supernatural about what's going on. In this book, we get a taste of it. And we see a defining moment for Cody.

I say read it, if for nothing more than to be a completionist and to read some interesting developments on Dexter's home life. The supernatural element took me by surprise and this is a low in the series for me. I did like four and five though. I still have to read book six.
Yes, read it. Even better, get the audio book edition that is narrated by Jeff Lindsay himself.
The supernatural was mostly in the background in an alternate narration.
Frankly, I think it just made the book spookier in a few places but dumber in others when the narration didn't quite work. Mostly, it tended to slow the action down because the narration was about what Dexter's first person account already described.
I wanted to skip over it to get back to Dexter's narration, which is highly entertaining.
I hope Lindsay dropped this device for the rest of the series.
I wouldn't worry about it.

I read all but the last Dexter Novel. I thought they were all good. I am getting ready to read the last Dexter Novel. If you read the first two then go for the third.
