Anita (anitaw) | 166 comments I'm spring cleaning my Goodreads Friends list. When I signed up for Goodreads years ago, Friends was the only option, but when someone changes their reading taste, you end up with emails about genres you no longer find interesting, but you feel bad deleting them in case they like your reviews. Personally, I think Follow is the better way to go. I've deleted everyone from my Friends list, but now I'm facing the arduous task of finding people again and following them instead. With luck, this will weed out the emails of reviews that aren't really in my area of interest.

So, I'm wondering, are you like me? I've read and rated and reviewed about 700 books, the vast majority in urban fantasy, paranormal romance, YA fantasy, sci-fi, traditional fantasy, and sometime erotica. I know who some of the mega-readers are in these genres, but certainly not all. Suggestions, anyone?

P.S. Anyone who was a Goodread friend of mine - it's so not personal-I'm just getting too much junk in my email inbox. Please Follow me if you want to keep seeing my reviews.

P.P.S. Does anyone use Friends for anything BUT the emailed book reviews? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems unnecessary now that Goodreads has Follow.

Dee (austhokie) why didn't you just stop following their updates? I don't track that kind of stuff, but like to see friends thoughts when I look at potential books

Abby | 353 comments I don't get emails for my friends updates... I love to see what others are reading or adding when I'm online though... It's a good way to find more books...

Cassandra (cassmarie) | 19 comments Hmm.. I don't get any emails regarding my friends updates.. I just get them on my homepage. I tend to read reviews that interest me when they pop up on my news feed and I also follow about 250+ blogs for reviews.

I read pretty much everything you've listed.. although I've only rated about 100 books because I didn't really rate many that I read prior to joining GR. I have been adding quite frequently to that list though! :)

Anika (teddybear1) | 318 comments I agree with the above two comments you have the option when you accept people as freind/s whether you want to be notified about what they are reading. I think a few ppl chose me to add to the "friend" numbers/list. But I do sort of follow them as they give me ideas of what I want to read next and with a few we have discussions/plan to read some books at the same time to talk later about.

Also going to the threads of "what are you reading" in the PNR group and I think a few others also give you ideas of what possible books you might want to read. You seem to like the type of books I like and I'm also into Mystery also under your profile you should see recommendations of other books based upon your reading lists. I hope this helps.

That's what I like too. Whenever I look up a book it always shows what my friends think of it first. That way I don't have to scroll through thousands of reviews and ratings to find it.

Exactly... Although there have been a few times where books I've read some of my friends couldn't stand and vice versa... for example the fifty shades books... almost all of my friends love it... I can't stand it... It's good to see the different opinions of them though...

I agree, I never understand why people get so bent out of shape because you don't feel the same way about a book. That's what I love about most of my GR friends that I chat with. We've had books we are opposite on (not often though) and those are some of my favorite discussions. Seeing their take on the same story and finding out why they loved and I hated it or vice versa.

Anita (anitaw) | 166 comments So I've switched over most of my "friends" to "follow", and I've discovered one of the disadvantages of "follow". Some people have privacy settings that do not allow random people to follow their reviews. I'm not sure what the other consequences will be.

To answer one of my own questions, some of the mega-reviewers in this genre (probably bloggers who cross-post) are: Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" Hill, Melinda (Paranormal Kiss), Shelley aka Gizmo's Reviews, Book Chick City, Cindyg, Sebina (Classicmaiden). Know any others?

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments I do have a book blog and I do read a lot in all kinds of genres.

You can check out my blog and see what you think? I read a lot of YA so it may not be your thing but I do read other genres too.

Anita (anitaw) | 166 comments I finally understand where to view "Followed" reviews, since they don't come to your inbox in emails like Friend reviews can, depending on your email settings. (I never used the Goodreads home page-guess I should have paid more attention to it!) Here's what Goodreads wrote back to my question: It’s not currently possible to filter your update emails to just show those you’re following. But you can see the reviews of your followers on your home page feed. Just click “reviews from…” at the top right of your feed (beneath the “discussion” tab) and select “followers” only.

Anita (anitaw) | 166 comments I'm looking to follow people on Goodreads who read a whole lot of mostly Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance AND who both rate and REVIEW the vast majority of books they read. (I do, so I'm looking for people like me.) If this sounds like you, please reply! Thanks!

I read mostly UF,PNR,dystopian and horror. I rate every book I read though I am a bit behind in my reviews and hope to catch up on that when I have a bit more time! You are welcome to follow me if you are interested x

texxie-PRUFreads.blogspot.com (prufreadsblogspotcom) | 198 comments Hi Anita! My favorite genres are PNR amd UF as well. I do have a blog dedicated to those genres and I've been lucky enough to recieve arc's from authors in exchange for honest reviews. :-) I review those as well as books I've chosen on my own. my blog contains adult content so 18+.

Kristin (misskris7198) | 74 comments I've been trying to get better about reviewing, but I do rate everything I read. I read mostly PNR/UF. More then welcome to follow me.

People that I would recommend following would be Paris (kerbytejas), Bookie | The BookChick, Aestas Book Blog, and the lastly Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru (she is one of my favorites to have show up in my newsfeed...so on top of posting status updates and they are well written blurbs that definitely make you want to read a book). There are others too, but those are the ones off the top of my head.
