Alice (aliceg) I have jsut had an email about a new bargain book website. It's based in the uk. I took a look and it seems really good. The prices are brilliant. Most of the books are under £5 with a lot only £1. They also gave me a code for free postage which is BAN209. I don't know if it's one that will only work for one person but it's worth trying out. The address is

www.bananas.co.uk

Tina (northernskygal) | 4 comments I have been spending lots of time on

www.bookreporter.com

The review section is huge, they are well written (for the most part) and they cover a large variety of books. The only downside I have noticed is, there is no way of really... sorting through the reviews, they are just straight up alphabetical order, with all the genres jumbled together. It's not that bad though, as it has prompted me to read reviews on books I normally wouldn't have. I am not even through the books beginning with A and I have a page of books to track down at my library!

Jaime | 240 comments Tina,

That's a great site! I see myself spending a lot of time looking through reviews and collecting books for my "to read" list. I've already added it to my favorites. Thanks for posting it!

Donna (electrogirl68) | 116 comments GreenMetropolis is good. All books are secondhand and all cost £3.75. Postage is usually free on a regular sized paperback but can be more if it is a bigger book. I got my copy of Rose of Sebastopol from there this morning and it is in "as new" condition as described. Excellent. (Based in the UK).

Jill | 4 comments www.paperbackswap.com is a good place to trade books, but I think you might need to be in the US to use it. How it works is you create an account and list books you are willing to mail to another reader. If someone selects a book from your list and you are willing and able to mail it you receive one credit for sending it to them. You use one credit for each book you request from another member. You can set up a wish list and wait in line for books you want to read and you also have the option to buy credits if you don't have any. It works out to be less expensive than Amazon.com and other sites like that.

message 24: by Donna (new)

Donna (electrogirl68) | 116 comments That sounds a bit like bookmooch.com

message 25: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Might be US only, but for a good selection of books and sellers (from housewives like me to big sellers like Better World Books), and dirt cheap starting prices, I always first try: http://www.half.ebay.com/

Don't know if this has already been suggested, but the above link is pretty good. Second best compared to Goodreads in my opinion, but worth checking out all the same.

I see what you mean about everything being all jumbled together, but does look like a pretty good site. I saved it for further exploration! LOL

message 32: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I just came across www.bookbub.com. You can sign up for daily emails which contain e-bookdeals (either free or very cheap) of genres you're interested in. You can also say on which device you read, so you get only deals that are compatible with your ereader.

Seems like a good website! Although I just found a book which was advertised for $1.99, but apparently that doesn't apply to all retailers, as it is indeed 1.99 at Apple, but over 4 euros at Google, and around €2.50 at Kobo.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Not quite a website, but seems a good place to put it. Stumbled upon this one. Someone's kickstarting a Jane Austen MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game).

Personally I like my games with more action, fantasy and puzzles/challenges/feats to work out, but if you like things like Second Life, and Jane Austen, you may be interested http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3...

LOL your default class hey? Rogues are plausible. They had swords and daggers. Who knows what Mr Bingley does in his spare time.

I can't see any of the Bennett sisters secretly being a mage (my default) however...

message 36: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments It's possible there were rogues and I just didn't see them. After all, they can meld into the shadows. Or the helpful mage teleported them somewhere far far away.

Annerlee | 2871 comments wtf2read.com

I came across this site earlier today... https://wtf2read.com

You can filter the search by the book genres you like and the site gives you the first page of a random book (without revealing the title). If you like the sound of what you read, you can choose to reveal the book's identity.

I recognised a few of the books from the first page (1984 for example) but I was surprised at some of the books that caught my interest.

I doubt many of us have problems adding books to our TBR list, but I spent a happy half an hour browsing anyway and waned to share!

message 48: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Fantastic website, Annerlee! I recognized several and had read more than I thought. I even found a few that were on my TBR list.

Kristie | 19155 comments Very cool website, Annerlee!

message 50: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I like the idea of the site. When i wrote my book blog, i participated in a book meme in which I had to write the first paragraph of the book i was reading and then others would comment whether or not they would read it based on that paragraph. Ooh. That might be a cool idea for a thread on here.
