April | 570 comments Ok...I think I'm the only one reading this...but I just wanted to vent a bit...this is a really good story, but there are parts that just drag on and on...I get bored (and that's a problem when listening to cd...you can't just skim, heehehe!)
Anyway...anyone who has any comments who has already read it, or hopes to...what do you think??? I really love the characters, and the plot...the whole idea is just fantastic... I know it was translated...so I wonder if maybe it lost something in translation? :) It's obviously good...because I keep pushing through (the first one had the same problem...those longer draughts of boring in between great adventure and story building:) But it is taking me FOREVER to get through this book!

April Lyn (aprilallyear) Who is this by? What genre is it?

message 3: by April (new)

April | 570 comments It's by Cornelia Funke. It's listed as children, but I think it's more YA. It's fantasy...I'm listening to it on cd in the car with the kids...and there's some content that I would have been happier if they didn't hear...and some words too:) The story really is good. This is the second book in the "Ink" series. Here are the books in case you're interested:) Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath
Basic idea is: A man can read things outta books (how awesome would that be right?) well...It's not all it's cracked up to be..there are drawbacks. Things come out and craziness ensues! The second book (the one I'm currently reading)...instead of things coming out...they get to go in. It's really a fun idea..and the cd is good because Brendon Frasier is reading it...and he's really a good reader; his voices are fantastic! But, it's taking a long time (the first one took me a long time too!:)

April Lyn (aprilallyear) I was at Goodwill the other day, picking up dollar paperbacks (can't resist!!) and I saw one of these books. I think it was the first one, but I wasn't sure which order they went in. I didn't get it because the condition was kinda gross, but after your description I thought I might. Now that you've read them all, would you recommend them? What type of reader would you recommend it to?

Stefan Yates (stefan31) | 137 comments Inkheart is the first in the series followed by Inkspell and Inkdeath. I've read the first two and liked them quite well. They're definitely in the vein of YA Fantasy, a little on the darker side of the genre. Great characters and interesting storyline. There are a few slow spots from time to time but overall I've found the firt two to be quite entertaining.

April | 570 comments I really did enjoy them, though Stefan is correct in their being some slow spots! We listened to them. . .and Brenden Fraiser did the audio book...so that was fun! I do NOT recommend ruining the books, though...by watching the film. While it wasn't horrible...it leaves you very disappointed (especially after reading!:) I absolutely adored the concept..and I enjoyed book two better than one:) Good luck, and have fun!

Amanda (flutterby32) | 54 comments I saw the movie but never read the books. The movie was really cute. I think I have the first book of the trilogy. I haven't tried to read it yet because it is so long. I think now I will have to read the books.

I had never heard of the books until I took my sister to see the film. I tried reading Inkheart later on but it really wasn't at a good 'book-reading' time for me so I never got around to finishing it... may look at trying it again some point soon :)
