Carly (carlywillats) | 4 comments The phrase 'Winter is coming', with a Sean Bean voiceover, pops in my head all the time now that Winter is actually coming (where I am on this Earth), and I knew you guys would appreciate how I know Winter is coming ...

I know Winter is coming when ...

1. It's so cold in my office my typing speed drops by 25 wpm.
2. I'm looking up at my downlights wondering how I can change them to heat lamps.
3. I switch mouse hands so my other hand can warm up.

how bout you?
ps. I'm in Australia .. thankfully not very cold here :)

When the wind outside feels likes knives sliding between my ribs

When rings of pain encircle my fingers

when the breath of the dragons is evident whenever anyone breathes or speaks

When the sky outside makes me think I will never see the Sun again.

Eyehavenofilter | 764 comments We only have 3 seasons.
Winter, mud,winter.
They are pretty easy to tell apart.
Winter; we are here. Plowing and shoveling 15 ft high drifts of snow.
Mud; the out 'a 'staters are here, sucking in what meger sun there might be, leaving a mess.
Winter ;again they flee and aren't here to help us clean up after them and we are back to plowing 17 ft drifts of wretched snow!!
Ayuh!

Stephanie | 129 comments When showers start and end in the pitch dark

When the rain hasn't stopped for so long that when you finally see the sun, even kids complain that it's too bright

When I choose my outfit by trying to match a pair of (relatively) waterproof shoes.

When even out-of-staters give up trying to carry an umbrella everywhere, every hour, every day.

When you start daydreaming about winter break, even before your students do...

Does House Reed have words? 'Mud is coming' would suit them I think:p

Eyehavenofilter | 764 comments Carly...and Woolfie ....... Wait....... let me get out of my rubber hip waders....
And into my thigh high leopard platform boots.....
You BOTH are rockin!!!!
LOLOLOLOL!!

Mach | 198 comments "mud is coming" lol that was funny.

Ang from OZ I live in Australia, in Queensland. We don't really get winter here. Its never below 0 degrees anyway. And yeah... no snow either! So "Winter is not coming"

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) | 392 comments Well Angela, at least not in the conventional, white and slushy incarnation at any rate. Your winter would be in July when it's baking wouldn't it.

Ang from OZ @ Woolfie

Yes Winter is June - August. Guess thats why the call Queensland the Sunshine State. I've never actually seen snow.... Sad, Sad life I lead! lol!

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) | 392 comments Least you have seasons, try coming to Malaysia where it's Sun bloody Sun, with a brief interlude of monsoon:p

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1113 comments Hey not seeing snow is not such a bad thing. I live in Chicagoland area and here winter can be anywhere from November to April. We don't have a real spring until middle of May.

Stephanie | 129 comments Without a miserable winter, who could truly appreciate spring and summer? I like to think that "Winter Is Coming" is a really melodramatic way to say "carpe diem"

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1113 comments I can enjoy spring and summer without winter.

Eyehavenofilter | 764 comments We are now officially in MUD season folks come on down east I've got my Welles on 24 hrs 7 days a week!

Heather (hbodley17) No real winter here in AZ (valley) BUT...I know when "winter" is coming when we can actually go outside and not feel like we walked into an oven : )

Biobi B (biobib) | 52 comments I'm not so sure, we didn't have one this year

Grenador Its hot like hell in India. Avg. Day time temp. 40 C. Deeply hoping "winter is coming" but still we are not in westeros. Goddamnit have to wait until December here.

Yvette (yvetteaimee) I live in Michigan, It's the winter-wonderland of the US. Seriously though, around here we use the birds. Canada geese migration is our indicator.

Jax (anti-cato) this winter must have been messed up for you, Yvette, cuz none of our Geese left this year.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1113 comments I hate those geese :)

message 25: by Jax (new) - added it

Jax (anti-cato) they are vicious, VICIOUS mothers...

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1113 comments We have them camped out on the roof of the school I work at and one of them attacked a parent because they were unknowingly too close to their nest.

Claude Dancourt (claudedancourt) Quebec has four seasons : nearly winter, winter, still winter, and road construction. Pretty easy to spot : windy, white, wet and orange.
But actually, I LOVE winter. I like snow (but not shoveling) and I like cold. Winter is cool. It's the best time of the year. You can prepare for Christmas, or cuddle in your favorite chair with a good book, and best of all, Winter has Hockey!

Jax (anti-cato) I got attacked by a red winged black bird last weekend for the same reason.

message 29: by Merty (new)

Merty Living in hot & humid Florida, the phrase with Sean Bean's voice "Winter is coming" does make it feel cooler, lol. I usually do not go out and buy cheesy things but I did get the Game Of Thrones coffee mug because it said Winter is coming on it, and my husband keeps saying it. lol I saw the mug when I saw the huge Game of Thrones book display at B&N. I had considered reading the first book via hardcopy, but it's more comfortable on kindle. Saw the mug. Gasp. Too funny.
When I think of the phrase though, I think of the Wildlings and the White runners...or something like that!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1113 comments I think you mean white walkers. :)

Eyehavenofilter | 764 comments Winter is coming when the next DVD comes out! Yaaaaaa!
