jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Tasks

Month 1: Birthday Month. The Dry Grass of August

Month 2: Birthstone. Peridot - Forget About It

Month 3: Published in 1958. The Naked Sun

Month 4: Author from US. Jason Heller I absolutely loved Taft 2012: A Novel!

Month 5: Set in a country I'd like to visit. Greece. Most of this book takes place in Athens. Everything Beautiful Began After: A Novel

Month 6: Favorite genre. This is a hard one, but I'm going with mysteries. Even better if there's a little romance, some humor, and a dog. One Dog Night

Month 7: Author who shares my first or last name. I read Murder With Puffins by Donna Andrews. My actual first name is Donna.

Month 8: Favorite flower. I don't really have one, I want them all when I go to the farmers market. Have to think about it. Ok, I'll go with Forget-Her-Nots. The book is about 14 year-old Laurel, who discovers she has a gift - enhancing other's emotions using the language of flowers. Various flowers are featured, giving me my colorful bouquet :)

Month 9: On my TBR list the longest. A Wrinkle in Time Somehow I missed this as a child and always thought I should read it.

Month 10: Favorite animal. I love dogs (mine would beat me up if I didn't say that). The Puppy That Came for Christmas: How a Dog Brought One Family the Gift of Joy

Month 11: Memoir or biography of someone I admire. I admire Jeannette Walls for her ability to survive her childhood, and to stay objective about her parents and not present them as villains. The Glass Castle

Month 12: Issue/cause that is meaningful to me. I love dogs and can't stand to see them neglected or abused. I have a problem reading about it, and have to change the channel when the ASPCA commercials come on tv. A Dog's Life: The Autobiography of a Stray

BONUS TASK: Hobby or a sport I love. I've been growing herbs, and now I'm trying to learn how to use them. Thyme of Death China Bayles has an herb shop.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Good start! If you join us in the April Toppler, you'll be able to take care of #9 with the same book. :)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Woohoo! Eight down and five to go!

I've got a couple of authors in mind who's first name is Donna (my actual first name), but it surprised me how few I could find.

I can't wait to see what the next yearly challenge wil bring!

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Ten down, three left. Not sure I'll get them done, so many other books to read. Maybe I can sneak one or two into the June Toppler.

message 7: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Good idea!

message 8: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Thank you! I've got two of them planned, hope to knock them out in the Toppler.

message 9: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I finished another task. Two left. And I've got one of the books :)

message 10: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm reading Forget About It, while listening to The Naked Sun at work. I should be able to finish them both this week, which would complete the annual challenge!

message 16: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Done, finished, completed, accomplished, concluded, achieved, the end!

message 17: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Doing the happy dance for jaxnsmom! Yippie-Yie-ooo... Cow-Patty!

message 18: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I was thinking of sending that cow patty to someone else :)

message 19: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments You could think of it like the Scottish sword dance, where you avoid it while you're dancing.

message 20: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Flinging poo is not allowed in this group. LOL!

I noticed you didn't say "tossing it at someone else."

Janice wrote: "You could think of it like the Scottish sword d..."

I was thinking it would be better (and not my fault) if someone accidentally stepped in it :p

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments I've done worse than step in it. I had my own rodeo when I tried to stop one of our cows from escaping. I lost my balance and dove headfirst onto the ground. My face just missed the cow patty, but my chest didn't. Thankfully, it wasn't a fresh patty.

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Judy wrote: "Thank goodness it wasn't fresh...er, that would be unforgettable....for everyone. I take it you never entered one of those cow chip throwing contests.."

No, I'm of the opinion that one should let the chips fall where they may.

message 24: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Someone random, so don't worry, you'd have a chance of getting it :)

When I lived in Winchester, a fundraiser they did was to mark off a field in squares and you bought a square. Then they'd put 3 or 4 cows in there, and the square with the first pie in it won :)

Oh Janice, I wish I could see that on youtube! But my imagination is doing a pretty good job!

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments I saw stars... so a video on YouTube would probably make me feel like I was a superstar. :)
