Just for fun and out of curiosity, do you have a preference for the hero's description? Do you ever read a book and think the hero is exactly your type or get disappointed when the hero doesn't do it for you? Does that change over the course of the book?

1. Height
2. Build
3. Hair. Color? Short or long? Straight or curly?
4. Nationality or region that you prefer. Are you into Southern boys or Brits? Do you like Italians or Greeks? Latinos? Asians?
5. Personality. Introverted? Extroverted?
6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous or plain? Cute-ugly? Rugged?
7. Eye color. Blue, brown, green, gray?
8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys?
9. What makes a hero push your happy button?

No wrong or right answers here.

If you want to post pictures of your hero types that you like, feel free. Please try to keep the naughty bits covered up. :)

Jill Hmmm, I have a thing for tall dark handsome cajuns:-) or crazy dangerous Russians, you know ex army types. Rugged, broad shoulders, controlled and dominant.
Jealous and protective, also have a thing for nerds, but manly nerds.
Also don't mind a southern drawl, give me a cowboy in some buttless chaps please hahahahahah.

An author can make me love just about anyone if written correctly. But I tend to like the dark mysteriously brooding men more. I love a scottish or british accent but I really love those western cowboys. Cajuns are cool too Lucky's Lady ☺ Love that Lucky. I absolutely love those military men. Also cops and bodyguards and FBI and PIs. Those men to serve and protect in their own way.

I tend to go for alphas more but sometimes a geek like Sam Rainshadow Road (Friday Harbor, #2) by Lisa Kleypas comes along and I swoon.

1. Height: up to 6ft3"

2. Build: Lean muscle

3. Hair. Color? Short or long? Straight or curly?

Color doesn't matter. No long hair. Bald :), it doesn't matter.

4. Nationality or region that you prefer. Are you into Southern boys or Brits? Do you like Italians or Greeks? Latinos? Asians?

It doesn't matter.

5. Personality. Introverted? Extroverted? Extroverted

6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous or plain? Cute-ugly? Rugged?

He can be either. I don't care for a pretty boy.

7. Eye color. Blue, brown, green, gray? It doesn't matter

8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys? It depends on the hero. He can wear all those shoes.

Carolyn F. 1. Height At least 5'8" or taller

Just for fun and out of curiosity, do you have a preference for the hero's description? Do you ever read a book and think the hero is exactly your type or get disappointed when the hero doesn't do it for you? Does that change over the course of the book?

1. Height: 6 feet is the magic number. Doesn't have to be much taller, but I prefer at least 6 ft.
2. Build: Muscular and athletic, but not skinny or super-bulky. Anything bigger than Vin Diesel is too big.
3. Hair. Color? Short or long? Straight or curly? I love dark hair, especially black hair. I like long hair if it's thick and wavy and well-groomed. I prefer curly or wavy hair. I'm not big on baldness, but some guys have helped me rethinking that (like Cop, Vin Diesel, Bruce Willis)
4. Nationality or region that you prefer. Are you into Southern boys or Brits? Do you like Italians or Greeks? Latinos? Asians? I have a weakness for Brits and Asians. I'm not that into Latin/Greek/Italian. I have a thing for Russians of late.
5. Personality. Introverted? Extroverted? I like a guy who's a bit on the introverted side. Thoughtful.
6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous or plain? Cute-ugly? Rugged? Rugged is good. I don't care much for pretty boys or drop dead gorgeous/model good looking unless his personality shows that he's deep.
7. Eye color. Blue, brown, green, gray? I'm a sucker for either dark hair and blue eyes or dark hair and dark eyes. I'm not big on light brown eyes for some reason.
8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? I like an aggressive alpha if he's well done and he's not a chest-thumper. I have a soft spot for betas.
Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys? I love nerds! I like soldier/warrior types.
9. What makes a hero push your happy button?
A hero who is very deep. He has a tremendous capacity for love and shows it throughout the book. He can handle his business, but he isn't about posturing. I love the strong silent, but demonstrative on his feelings type.

Some examples:

Cerebral, Nerdy/Geeky (still waters run deep)

[image error] Matthew Gray Gubler. I love him!!!

Rugged, lived in, not pretty but hot!

[image error] Daniel Craig

[image error] Christian Bale

Not my usual type, but works for me!

[image error] Vin Diesel

Very pretty, but there is something about them that makes me want to keep looking and fall deep

[image error] Ben Barnes

All I can say is dang!

[image error] Sam Worthington

My favorite, and my virtual husband

[image error] Keanu Reeves

message 12: by Jill (new)

Jill My favourite out of that group would have to be Mr Bale, he's had me since he was Laurie in Little Woman. Although Vin Diesel and Keanu Reeves would come a tied second place.

message 14: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3 comments 1. Height

At least 6 feet

2. Build

Muscled. The bigger the better, baby

3. Hair. Color? Short or long? Straight or curly?

Long and no red heads and not curly. Gotta be able to run your fingers through it.

4. Nationality or region that you prefer. Are you into Southern boys or Brits? Do you like Italians or Greeks? Latinos? Asians?

NO SOUTHERN BOYS! Brit, Scot, Italians. Latino's and Asians are usually too short.

5. Personality. Introverted? Extroverted?

Dont care

6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous or plain? Cute-ugly? Rugged?

All of the above except ugly

7. Eye color. Blue, brown, green, gray?

Dont care

8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys?

ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA

9. What makes a hero push your happy button?

Smell good, rippling muscles, they dont talk, workout, they can cook, tattoo's and for some reason I like them to wear necklaces.

My dream man would be something of a mixture of these guys

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments As long as the author writes them well, I can pretty much fall in love with any type of her! But the ones that I tend to obsess over the most are the big Asia in over 6ft guys, who are rugged and manly looking. I also love them to be pierced to tattooed as well, I find that incredibly sexy! So yeah, ideal gut, really tall and muscled with longish hair, tats and piercings, rugged looking, protective with a quiet but intense personality!

message 20: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 32 comments 1. Height - Has to be 6 feet and over

2. Build - Muscular arms and back, but a little meaty in the middle (I like a little cushion but not a pregnancy, lol)

3. Hair - Bald preferably or buzz cut

4. Nationality or region that you prefer - Hmmm...I tend to like Caucasians or Southern boys in general but I also like Irish or Slavic heroes as well

5. Personality - Introverted? Extroverted? - Both would actually do for me

6. Looks - Rugged for me with a hint of plain I think

7. Eye color - Brown or Green

8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas - All about the Alpha types for sure

9. What makes a hero push your happy button? - Well the main thing has to be their wit and sense of humor, particularly their dialogue(s) with the heroine or other characters. Usually if a hero can make me gasp, laugh, curse, cry, swoon, or all of the above in one story, I am totally in love!

message 23: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments 1. Height: 6ft at least.

2. Build: Fit, they don't have to be ripped or anything just toned.

3. Hair. Color? Short or long? Straight or curly?: I prefer Dark hair. It doesn't matter if it is long or short and long as it fits the character. For example, a viking would have long hair but a modern soldier would have short.

4. Nationality or region that you prefer. Are you into Southern boys or Brits? Do you like Italians or Greeks? Latinos? Asians? Northern European, my favorite being Scottish. I am a sucker for their accents.

5. Personality. Introverted? Extroverted? I guess extrovert, I really like a take change sorta man. Some who is cool and confedent under pressure. But, I have also been known to like a tortured soul type character. As long as they aren't whiney.

6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous or plain? Cute-ugly? Rugged? Rugged. I like them a little dirty, just from battle warrior type.

7. Eye color. Blue, brown, green, gray? Light colored eyes, green and blue, with green being my fav.

8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys? Alphas all the way. lol

9. What makes a hero push your happy button? the best way to describe what gets me going is "an asshole with a heat of gold". They may not like many people but they are loyal to their friends and loved ones. I also an a sucker for someone with a dry sense of humor. Think, Eric Northman in the Sookie Stackhouse Novels.

message 26: by Desiree M ~*~*~ (new)

Desiree M ~*~*~ LiveReadCollect (livereadcollect) | 109 comments I thought I answered this one but I guess not. Well here are my prefrences.

1. Height - At least 6 feet.

2. Build - Muscled, no larger than Arnold Schwarzenegger's build in Terminator 2 or Commando but larger than Orlando Bloom's build. My favorite build is probably Hugh Jackman's. I am a sucker for well toned/muscled arms and a strong back. Also a firm butt, that’s definitely important. :)

3. Hair. Color? Short or long? Straight or curly? - Dark hair, no longer than shoulder length. It doesn't matter if it's straight or curly or right in the middle or shaved/bald.

4. Nationality or region that you prefer. Are you into Southern boys or Brits? Do you like Italians or Greeks? Latinos? Asians? I love heroes from the European countries, and I also love American heroes.

5. Personality. Introverted? Extroverted? - I love both.

6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous or plain? Cute-ugly? Rugged? - Definitely rugged, I am not attracted at all to soft looking men. Gorgeous or plain, cute or unattractive doesn't matter much.

7. Eye color. Blue, brown, green, gray? - Doesn't matter.

8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys? - Alphas! But I don't mind some beta thrown in there. Nerdy/Sporty doesn’t matter, as long as they have some alpha-ness in them I’m happy.

9. What makes a hero push your happy button? - A hero with a sense of humor, a hero who doesn’t just look pretty, I need a hero with some brains, some personality, and kindness. I also can’t help but love protective, possessive, and sometimes jealous heroes. And a hero that has at least a little bit of a romantic side. Also when the hero is constantly touching the heroine, touch can be so many different things, comforting, sensual, playful, erotic, and I just swoon when the hero touches the heroine a lot. I'm also a sucker for a bad boy type. Troubled past (or present), leather, and tats (not too many but I like a few).

But in the end, as some have already mentioned, as long as he's a well written hero I'll love him.

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Well, I have not chatted on this site yet this year but this topic drew me in. Nice choice!
For me, it's a little different.
1. Height...5'8" to 5'10" (Simon in Roselynde)
2. Build...running back, big muscles but supple, not musclebound. Giant biceps really do it for me. Greek statue, wide shoulders, narrow hips. Stocky without chubbiness.
3. Hair. Curly brunette, medium length (just past collar) or a silver fox (prematurely grey or not).
4. Nationality...Israeli/Jewish, but nobody has written one. Russian would be my second choice.
5. Personality... Extroverted to balance my introversion. Great sense of humor, on the dry/wry side. Able to laugh at himself. Not good at articulating or expressing feelings, does so through actions. Protective, just a touch possessive. Not given to romantic gestures, would feel silly picking flowers. Clueless guy when dealing with emotions.
6. Looks. Drop dead gorgeous and Rugged. Gotta have expressive eyes, the rest does not count except I hate the cocky grin.
7. Eye color. Brown, the darker the better.
8. Do you like aggressive alpha types or betas? Nerdy/Geeky guys or sporty guys?...All of the above, but there are a few Alpha nerds (Indiana Jones or Navy SEAL software warrior geeks like Karmody) whom I crave.
9. What makes a hero push your happy button? Different things. Considerate dominance, controlled power. A bit of a silly tease behind the deadly facade...think Indiana Jones again.
10. Things you did not ask...long eyelashes. The eyes determine good looks for me. Hair on the chest, arms, and legs, plenty but not ape.

Boy, I had to give that a lot of thought. I've enjoyed reading everyone else's responses.

Nora Roberts writes some great beta heroes ... comic book authors, carpenters, farmers. One of my favorites is the clueless dog-owner dude in The Search by Nora Roberts . My favorite tortured-psyche-in-recovery hero from her is in Northern Lights by Nora Roberts . You also might like the betas from Lisa Kleypas Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor (Friday Harbor, #1) by Lisa Kleypas or Mary Jo Putney's Lost Lords No Longer a Gentleman (Lost Lords, #4) by Mary Jo Putney . The best of all time was Putney's Petals in the Storm (Fallen Angels, #2) by Mary Jo Putney but it might seem dated to current readers.

Jena (outlanderfan74) 1. height: tall is my preference
2. build: muscular but lean
3. hair: I think black is my favorite color, but after Jamie Fraser from "Outlander", I like red too. I don't have a preference for straight or curly, and only a slight preference for short hair.
4. Nationality: Southern boys, Australians, Scots
5. personality: noble (doesn't have to be perfect, and can be far from it, but must have a good heart), quiet and strong (not flashy or arrogant), altruistic (I like the guys that put the heroine before themselves, as opposed to the possessive overbearing types)
6. looks: rugged, gorgeous (can definitely include "flawed gorgeous" like a scar or something)
7. eyes: I like blue, but more important to me is the intensity of the gaze, the warmth that shines from within the soul.)
8. I like mysterious heroes, guys who are tough/ruthless on the outside either because of their job or life circumtances but they're sweet and vulnerable if they drop their guard. The ones with atortured past intrigue me, because you get to see them open up as they fall in love.
9. I LOVE it when authors will describe their hero's scent, "like wood smoke", "a combination of cologne, bourbon, and peppermint", whatever descriptors they use gives me a clearer picture of the hero in question.
