George III (glc3) | 113 comments Freebies can be of use.

I write short stories no more than 8-10 pages pertaining to my book and offer those for free. I make sure to include a link to the book on Amazon. If people like the short story they buy the book.

I did this early on this month. It's worked very well for me so far.

J. (keystone045) | 1 comments I have been following several indie authors and a few older established authors who are using the alternating freebie method.

This only works if you have several books in your arsenal already.

Several are running a special due to a holiday or other event such as an offline book signing and giving away one ebook for free on say smashwords or amazon for a limited time.

They are saying that this can triple a weekly sales number.

Some of my friends are using sites like obooko and others to give away the first book of a series to generate interest. And leaving it there until the downloads reach a certain number.
