Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments ^^ HERE HERE LORRAINEEEEE!

Girrrrrrrrrrrl!

And yes, this shouldn't be about challenges that get us down - it should be about stuff to track our goals and how much fun we are having ;)

message 4: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments thanks hun... it's a lot of books innit!

and mostly Indies, and mostly GR/KUF authors too...

apart from the Gently books (got them in one of the sales) and the paperback Goddards (cheaper from the charity shop lol)...

quite proud of that - didn't realise i had read so many!

message 5: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments There aren't that many pleasures in life when you think of it (well those that are not beyond our reach)... so no, reading should never ever feel like a chore indeed !

message 6: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments very true xx

message 7: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I've only read 6 of them

message 8: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments 4 for me Joo :)

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments I have only read 5 of them. Although I'll be 6 once I have finished dead world by our Shaun!

message 10: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I've just done a quick count on my new spreadsheet and of the 110 authors I've read AK (anno Kindle) 50 of them are kuf/gr authors (a few more are on gr) to a certain extent and I'm sure I'd be able to contact and actually get replies from just about all of them if I wanted to.

message 11: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments yea it's definitely a different reading experience, we're really blessed to have wonderful writers who happen to be lovely people too :)

message 12: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments Wow, that certainly shows the diversity of everyone's reading habits! I think if I listed last years books (which I am sort of working on) there will be way more in common...

I did a spreadsheet of all the books I have paid for and which of them I have actually read, so I then went on a mission to read some of them, hence the Gently books and the Sellers and Locke ones I have just finished.
I have a tentative plan of which other "paid for" books I am going to read next, but as we all know, anything can happen with a TBR list and my reading is VERY mood dependent!

message 13: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I'm trying to read only paid books atm - hence my challenge. Doing good so well!

message 14: by Joo (last edited Apr 14, 2012 02:03PM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I keep my gr library as up to date as possible - although I have come across a few books not on there.
I did a cut n paste of my read books into excel to get my list. I am going to see if there's an export button to make it a bit easier.

message 15: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments There is an export button Joo although not sure which format it goes into!

message 16: by Joo (last edited Apr 14, 2012 02:34PM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Wow, I wish I'd looked for and found that button earlier. It goes to excel and has loads of good columns
Thanks

Well done Lorraine!!

I bought the whole Gently series on impulse in the sale but haven't read any of them yet. How did you like them?

:0)

message 18: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I like the Gently books. One of them was a previous GR book of the month read.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm glad that I bought them then - I got a bit carried away in that sale, bought loads of MC Beaton as well! I had to be much more restrained in this last sale as I couldn't really afford the amount I'd spent last time and I need to spend the rest of my life reading to catch up with my TBR list as it is!

;0)

message 20: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments The Gently books are sometimes a little tough to read cos of the language and some colloquialisms the author uses, but the stories are good and I like the style of the detection and the attention to detail of Gently as a policeman. They are certainly different to modern day crime fiction cos they are very much "old school" detection. Well they were written in the 50s lol.
I also bought them in the sale on impulse. Glad I did cos I did enjoy them. I bought the first 9, which I have read all of. I am now looking in the charity shops / book exchange for more as I don't really think they are worth the full Kindle price to me.
I think they will be kinda like marmite, you will either like them or not...

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Kath, I'll give the first one a go soon. So many good books, so little time..

;0)

message 22: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I got my Gentlys mixed up. I thought you were on about Dirk.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Joo The Grand Inquisitor wrote: "I got my Gentlys mixed up. I thought you were on about Dirk."

I wish the Dirk Gently books would go on sale! I have them in paperback but they are in a box somewhere in our attic!

:0)

message 24: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments I listened to the Dirk books, and also H2G2, and a few others - I did wonder if I should list Audio Books too, but decided against that...

message 25: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I have read 11 on your list Kath. I also bought the Gently series in the sale but not read any as yet.

message 26: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Way to go Kath!! I've only read 5 of those

Where is the export button?

message 27: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments If you go into my books, on the left hand side under tools there is import/export :)!

message 28: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Awesome thanks Elle :o)

message 29: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments Thanks Jud... ties in nicely with your thread about how many books read this year so far :)

message 30: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments Update:
Bad Doctor – John Locke
One One-Eyed Guru – Andrew Biss (SS)
Dead Man’s Justice – A Place of Evil – Gregory Stenson
Follow the Stone – John Locke
Don’t Poke the Bear – John Locke

I am trying to read the ones i bought ages ago and haven't read yet. I am also picking easy reads as it is what I feel I can best cope with atm...

message 31: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments John Locke is a nice easy silly read. I go to him when I need a break :)

message 32: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments Isn't he just - i had read most of his Creed books last year and was playing catchup with the latest Creed books and a few others he has written and then found the Emmett Love ones. Not a big fan of Westerns but i love his style of writing and they were cheap enough to take a punt on and i am glad i did :) half way through the third in that series now and then i am all caught up with his stuff !

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't tried any books by John Locke yet - I know that he's a kindle best seller! Must try one soon..

:0)

message 34: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments I think you'll either like John Locke or you won't, he's a bit like marmite... when i first got my kindle I bought the first 7 Donovan Creed books for a total of £4.23 - bargain!
Actually the other 7 of his books only cost me an additional £5.31... that's 14 books for less than a tenner!
they aren't that cheap these days sadly, I think i got a great deal there :)

message 39: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Getting on rightly Kath!!

message 40: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments Thanks Elle... I'm shocked at how much I actually read. I really catalogued it properly before. Would have been good to see pre and post Kindle numbers. Although I don't think I read this much before I got my K. I was certainly not as diverse in genre!!

message 41: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Ye I only read books in series' I enjoyed pre-Kindle so I've definitely branched out.

Although in a way I think I read less frequently because of it.

message 42: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments I think part of the reason I read more is that I now take buses more cos i got rid of my car. I also use cloud reader at work and Kindle app on my phone for times when i don't have my kindle with me.
The series I used to read in paperback before I got my Kindle, I still read in paperback from charity shops and my book exchange cos I simply can't afford to pay 4 quid for a book in whatever format. I have about 20 DTBs on a shelf to be read as well as my TBR!

I certainly watch less TV these days... I just need to sort my internet addiction out now and there will be even more time for books!!!

message 43: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments That's the same problem as me. If I stopped frequenting kindle forums, I'd have more time to read :)

message 44: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Also, I spotted JL's book prices had gone up. But they were the books I'd already got (luckily I bought the last 2 Creed ones about 2 weeks ago) so I bought his Emmett whatsit ones as they were just 70-odd pence.

message 45: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I spend way too much on my laptop too Kath!!

And I can't read in a moving object - that is one thing I wish I could do as I do travel quite a bit in the car or on buses :(

message 46: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just bought another book yesterday, at least it was only 50p

message 47: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Ooo but was it good?

I haven't bought any in a while actually. very proud.

message 48: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't know I've not read it yet. It's The Interpretation of Murder

message 49: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments eep, i meant did it look good. that does actually *sends sample*

message 50: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I did wonder Elle, I thought you were perhaps having a blonde moment and thinking I was a supersonic, highspeed, obsessive compulsive book reader.
