Well we are so glad that you did!! Any fan of fantasy is a fan of mine ;-) and I LOVE Stephen King - no reason to feel shame there - The Stand is still one of my all time favorites.
Oh Becky... hi there! So glad you decided to brave up and introduce yourself! No need to think we are cooler than you are.... We are all the same here... Lovers of all things BOOKS....
I have about 70+ sitting waiting to be read, Stephen King was my first favorite author....
You will love it here!

I feel like I should explain my initial introduction a little... You see, I was at work, and bored to tears, so, I thought a little humorous, analogous talking-to-the-cute-guy-at-the-bar scenario type introduction would help ease my boredom... and it did, for a little while.
But, I am not nearly as shy as I inadvertently made myself out to be. In fact, I have FIM (Foot In Mouth) Syndrome - which really should be classified as a mild mental illness - and it rears it's ugly head at some of the most inopportune moments. Like baby showers.
I just have an odd sense of humor. I hope that we can still be friends. :)

Hi becky welcome, happy reading and happy holidays!!
I am very jealous of your TBR list (yours too, fiona!!) I have a very small pile of unread books on my shelf, but that's only because I have limited access to english bookstores and zero to english libraries. (I live in Italy.) But we do have lots of fun!!

Hayes, I don't know if I could cope in an area that didn't offer adequate reading material. Thank you for the information though... Now I know that if I get to Italy in this lifetime, I will need to bring my own. And maybe a forklift to carry it all. ;)
I'm not sure if you are a member of Bookmooch, Hayes, but if not, you should give it a try. It's the only book-swap site that I know of which will let users ship internationally.
Cameron, I haven't read the Drangonlance Chronicles. You see, I have this terrible habit of judging books based on their covers... Fantasy books especially. :(
If I haven't been recommended a book, or if I don't know anything about it, most likely I'll never pick it up in a store if the cover isn't appealing to me.
But that's why I love GR, because I do get recommendations for great books! So thank you, it will go onto the TBR mountain.
Don't know bookmooch, but will check it out. I have just started using bookcrossing, however. that's a lot of fun too.

I think you're right, up north the situation isn't so bad. The bookstores here have books in English, but the selection is pretty grim (catering to tourists who want fast mindless reads) and/or very expensive.
There are two really good english bookstores, both difficult to get to for me. Money is the problem, so I re-read a lot of the things I have at home and splurge once or twice a year and have soething sent from amazon.

Stephen King and I experienced an awkward moment earlier this year, when I was reading Bag of Bones. His protagonist was remembering his deceased wife fondly and with no small amount of longing, when I quite suddenly found myself turned right on. Haha! I shut the book and said omg to myself all shocked-like. I'm happy to report that I'm looking ole SK in the eyes again these days - I stayed up late reading Cell 3 nights running. *high five to zombie lovers

Cell was OK, but I wasn't terribly impressed with it overall. The zombies kinda disappointed me. The beginning was good, but by the end I had my "what-the-heck?" face on.
Here's what I said about it in a discussion we had in the "Stephen King Fans" group... (And be warned, if you haven't read it- this contains SPOILERS!):
"I think the main thing that made it so... "bleh" for me is that I like my zombies to be ZOMBIES.
Brainless, instinctive, vicious, broken-leg-dragging, brain-eating zombies. They definitely were that in "Cell" at the beginning, right after the Pulse, but when they started to evolve, and pick a leader etc, it just lost me.
I'll take "Dawn of the Dead" zombies over zombies with a social hierarchy anyday! ;) "
I've seen this group around, and passed awkward eye-contact moments with it for a while now... But have never actually worked up the courage to walk over and introduce myself... So, as part of my early New Years resolution, I have pledged myself to being a little bit more outgoing and self-confident with groups that I think are cooler than me. Which this one is.
So, here goes. I'm Becky, 26, and have been a GR addict since July when the fates deigned to Stumble me onto the site. I never looked back.
I will read just about anything, but I really enjoy fantasy.
I'm not ashamed to admit that Stephen King is my favorite author.
I own nearly 90 books that I haven't read, mainly because I am a book hoarder.
I love used paperback books. I like the way that paper smells.
...Ok that was weird. Sorry about that.
Anyway, nice to meet you all! :)
