Stephanie one of the last of his books that i truly enjoyed

Tommy Harmon I absolutely loved this one, until the end!

David Monk One of his best books ever. The raggedy man, what a character

Roy McDine Absolutely loved this really evocative plot - could it really happen? who knows - that's what makes it such a brilliant 'zombie' read.

Raven Bakersfield I don´t love it, I think S.K change, I can´t say exactly how. The story is good and the characters as usual very near to the constant reader, but something is missing and I really miss S.K.

John Hancock Like many King stories, I almost feel he needs to have an editor with enough cahonies to get him to stop trampling his own work.
Good beginning, great buildup, but unlike others here who were disappointed by the very end, I felt it starting to unravel much sooner than that. I'm familiar with the feeling that SK gets bored with his own premise and IMHO it shows towards the last quarter of the book.

I think SK is not very good when he tries to write scifi: maximum overdrive, Mist, etc. Mainly because I feel he doesn't really understand the science behind the mechanism he's using to make the story

Vanillahugz I love SK. While sometimes I wish an ending was different or perhaps a character not killed off etc , when it is all said and done , it's HIS story. It's HIS idea that he has put down on paper. To say that a fiction author doesn't "understand" , reguardless of the genre, I find a wee bit presumptuous. One can dislike , disagree or not understand what the author is getting at but the one person in the world that truely understands the story is the author ! But everyone is entitled tho their opinion ... and this is mine ;o)

John Hancock I appreciate your opinion, but I still insist that there is a different standard for science fiction vs. horror. In Scifi the mechanisms must be plausible or at least attempted to explain.

Kim This book was hilarious! The zombie things were so funny. Already by page 12 King was causing havoc. I cracked up. King can scare the hell out of you and make you laugh until you cry!

Lisa Quillin Cell is the worst and next under the dome of Stephen Kings books and I have read most all of them but lately he is losing his edge. Joe Hill his son wrote Heart shaped box and I loved it so different and a cant put down book.

Emma I loved it, it would make a top movie.

Jon Adcock An iteresting take on the zombie genre. I liked the fact that it was the ubiquitous cell phone that was the vector for the contagion. My only complaint would be with the paranormal abilities that the phone crazies started showing. It would have been more effective to keep things grounded a trifle more in reality.

@Shirley, I agree with you on Duma, loved it, also like Leisey story - very good

Marsha Holliston Deborah wrote: "I loved the story from the first page, made me think twice about using my cell phone lol. But I was kind of dissapointed by the ending.
So what did everyone else think?"

I, too, agree. I needed more. It just...ended...what's up with that?

Marsha Holliston I started reading Just After Sunset, a series of stories, and by the 3rd one that just ended, leaving you wondering, I put it away, and read The Girl that Loved Tom Gordon. Good book with an ending!

Richard it was ok, a bite size king book with some nice touches and a cracking begining. i was disappointed when the movie fell apart at production and didn't make it to the screen

as a parent i thought the end of the book was quite powerful

I had no idea there was a plan for a movie. Would have been great but will anxiously await for word on the Dark Tower movie. That would be incredible.

Richard Eli Roth (the chap who made Hostel 1 and 2) was going to make it but he moved on to Aftermath and The Green Inferno instead, which admittedly both sound a bit better.

The opening of Cell was pretty much filmed in the overly maligned The Happening by Shaylaman. The first 20 minutes are very similar to the begining of Cell

I didn't see either. Looked a little too freaky. Don't like the jump out scare you kind of movies. Don't know if I'd like zombie type, either. But I do plan on seeing The Happening.

Richard The Happening is ok, it was critically mauled but as a Friday night low expectation film it's really not to bad. There is an awkward scene with a pot plant but in the context of the film it works ok

a few jumps and a few jolts and a not too bad sense of large scale disaster

Shannon I really enjoyed it. I'm more of a fan of his short stories, but when I read Cell, I remember that I couldn't put it down. Not my favorite of his work, but I definitely think it was one of the good ones.

Deanna I was really into this book. I've read it a twice and will probably read it again in a few years. It was my first King novel so it will always have a special place in my heart. The only things I didn't really care for were the telepathy and other strange abilities that the "zombies" had. In my opinion the addition of powers was unnecessary.

Paul Stevens Great book, horrible ending; like most Stephen King novels. I always think about the very last scene of the film "Secret Window" where Johnny Depp explains the importance of a good ending and how a good story needs the perfect ending. He does this in a film based on a Stephen king book where they completely changed the ending actually giving the film an ending that was the opposite of Kings ending. I always thought that Johnny Depp's last speech in this film was a personal shot directed towards Stephen King. Great storyteller though.

Vanillahugz Most "good endings" are predictable. Stephen King doesn't DO predictable.

message 75: by Paul (new) - rated it 3 stars

Paul Stevens I disagree with good endings being predictable, I have read many a novel and the "good endings" are the ones that catch you by surprise and tie everything up in nice little package. Almost never happens with Stephen King

Maggie It's one of my least favourite Stephen King books. There are quite a few like that so I was delighted that Dr Sleep grabbed me just as much as The Shining

Markiea This book has been a book that has stayed with me FOREVER. And not because I liked it! This is on the top of my 'hated' books list. The book itself was good, but the ending, THE ENDING SUCKED!!

message 78: by John (new) - rated it 2 stars

John I read Cell quite awhile back and I don't think it was one of Stephen King's better efforts. Of course that really doesn't make any difference since Cell is coming out as a movie this year. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0775440/

message 79: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill Deschuytter Oh, I liked it and it made me fear my phone for a bit there! But I was so pissed off with the ending, it makes me want to have a second book so we at least get a clear answer. I kinda hate open endings :)
