KC | 4897 comments Gave "Schitt's Creek" another try. Started with the second episode, and there's a definite improvement. Yay.

Finished rewatching Firefly last night. OMG, I'm gonna miss this ship so much! I loved watching the extras and behind the scenes stuff. They really seemed to have a good time filming the show! Next up is the movie. I wasn't going to watch it, because you know, spoiler, sad ending. But now that I'm through the tv show, I feel the need to remember what happened in the movie and to get more time with my favorite crew and spaceship.

Enjoy! It's hard rewatching Firefly, because of, you know, everything...

It's one of my most favourite programs ever, but it's hard for many reasons.

You know, what got me this time, wasn’t the sad ending. It was the different mood/vibe of the movie compared to the show. They tried to make the set similar to the previous set, but it’s too different for me. It’s not the same ship. It’s too sleek, even though it’s falling apart. Too sleek and too big. It’s no longer cozy. And even the crew was a bit different, especially Mal, who suddenly goes from you’re on the crew to, you’re just passengers and I don’t care about you.

Part of it was that I’d just watched the whole show within a week and then watched the movie right after. I think in the past there was always a sizable gap so comparisons were not as easy.

The show was great though, as always, and was a perfect binge watch on Thanksgiving. I had “family” with me that day in the form of Serenity’s crew. And now I feel as if I might need to start back over with the pilot again. Lol. I miss them already.

I keep meaning to try this series. I'm going to make it happen during my Christmas vacation!

I'm debating what to binge watch on Christmas. At this moment I'm thinking either Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3, The Expendables 1-2 (don't have 3), or the first season of S.W.A.T. from the 70's, which I was hoping to get into next year. The first season only had 12 episodes, I think.

I'm obviously looking for action/adventure, non-Christmas movies. lol.

Also, I started watching the fifth season of Quantum Leap last night and OMG... they ruined it! The new theme song is horrible and this first leap is just... no words, really. It's bad. I didn't realize the first episode was extra long either, so I had to stop in the middle and I really just want that episode to be over already. oh boy...

Doing a pre-holiday Spring Winter cleaning I opened our VHS cabinets (another black hole of things I can't decide what to do with)... and discovered that there are lots of movies I'd enjoy rewatching, in fact lots more than what I spot scanning Netflix or Amazon Prime. We haven't been able to figure out how to run our old VHS/DVD combo player through our new(er) hand-me-down TV. So I may need to set up our old set somewhere. Although my taste has definitely changed over the years, I have several Almodovar, Jean Cocteau, and Hammer horror films. :)

I still have a VHS collection and occasionally watch something. Most of what I have on VHS are things I can't get on DVD. But then there's still a lot of stuff there I just haven't bothered switching yet. I don't recall the names of cords and things, but I was able to hook up a VHS player to my flat screen the same way I hooked up my DVD player.

Good luck! I hope you can make that happen! And, this is a great reminder that I should scan my VHS tapes and see if there's a good Christmas binge watch there!

Alison | 4756 comments I've been enjoying "Bridgerton." I read the series years ago and while I don't remember a lot, it's still quite fun seeing a romance series I've read made "real." The fact that Netflix has made a big-budget adaptation of a romance series is a pretty big deal. It's well done and intentionally not historically accurate. I appreciate the modern touches, such as the diversity of the cast--the aristocracy is full of people of colour and I love it! There are no bonnets (gasp!) and the men wear modern pants. Not a stocking in sight! It's good, frothy fun. There's eight books and I wonder if they're going to film each of them. Maybe it will encourage people to be a little less mean about the romance genre. Probably not.

I'm going to keep an eye out for both of these! It's a really good time for comedy. I was watching Jerry Seinfeld last night--I've only ever watched him in Comedians in Cars--and I was laughing so loud the dogs kept lifting their heads to stare at me. :-D

We watched the latest Psych movie and I regret to say it was kind of ...awful. It started out well, but then there was just so much filler nonsense. I think it is a perfect example of when you try to please everyone. And also when you don't know when to leave well enough alone.

Lately we've been watching episodes of Bourbon Street Beat, a 1960s detective show set in New Orleans.

It's goofy but sort of charming. There are some really entertaining touches--and also some things that are just beyond painful, like the ditz beauty queen Southern Belle receptionist.

He's surprisingly funny. I was never a fan of Seinfeld (the show), can't put my finger on why, but I saw his stand-up show and he was quite funny and with interesting insights into all sorts of things.

I considered stopping watching it several times throughout (so much violence, so little plot, and everyone whispers or yells), but needed closure (i.e., John Wick vs. the bad guys). And now, it appears that I'm willing to watch the second one as well...

Just finished the final episode of Quantum Leap... it was rather bittersweet. But now I can finally say I’ve seen the whole thing.

I was not a huge fan of the fifth season, but the second to last episode with his leap into Elvis Presley was fun, and had great music, of course. Lol. And the last episode did have the original theme song complete with the original images to go with it. When I realized it, I actually went back to experience the whole thing...for the last time. I mean, I’m sure I’ll pick up the first season again sometime, but still, it seemed important to do. You know?

Anyway... it’s done.

It's amazing! And Kosonen is amazing, along with her co-star. They play police detective partners. If you have Amazon Prime you can buy HBO at a monthly rate and cancel anytime (at least US Amazon Prime). Paul did this when watching Game of Thrones and some other series. Lately I think we've just let it roll along with a myriad of other monthly subscriptions... argh, they get you every time... ;)

The Queen's Gambit is the best television we watched in a long time. We almost started re-watching it while at a loss for a new series... until we found Beforeigners (which is a very different thing, but still wonderful).

P.S. Just a warning re Gambit, Episode 6 was something of a downer for me. I was afraid they were going in a too predictable direction... but Episode 7 reversed those worries.

I finally started watching the original S.W.A.T. tv show from the 70's last night. Wasn't planning on it, but I was really not in a great mood and didn't know what to do with myself for an hour. lol.

Honestly, yep, this one is pretty dang violent for a major tv show in the 70's, but it's also pretty awesome. The theme song is soooo 70's, but it works. And yeah, I liked the acting and the action. I would have tweaked some things, if I were doing it, but over all, well done, I thought. Too bad there's only 2 seasons, but I think they will be fun to watch, even if they are also sadly a bit realistic. The first episode starts off with an officer's death, so you know, they aren't pulling any punches here.

I've not read the books, but saw an add for the PBS program and recommended it for my dad. My tv is sketchy about what channels I pull in these days and our PBS is not all that reliable, sadly.
But maybe it'll be on DVD some day and I'll have time to watch it then.
