Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I haven’t posted here before but I am going to join in. Four of the actors from ‘It’s a Sin’ appeared on Christmas Bake Off and it was good watching them bake and then be judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. I have put Its a Sin on my list of series to watch.

At the moment I am watching second series of The Witcher
https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/8018... Then I am going to start reading the series. I do enjoy high fantasy and it will be nice to have a series I can get into.

Recently I watched The Long Call. The Long Call
I thought it was great to see the drama but the book was so much more interesting.

I didn’t realize The Long Call got turned into anything. That’s awesome. I’ve been enjoying the Vera Stanhope books recently. I’ve gotten through book 3. But I do think I might prefer the tv show? But then, I saw the show first, so that may have something to do with it. Lol.

I just got All Creatures Great and Small based on the book, which I’ve not read, but I saw the ads for the show, thought it was a movie, recommended it to my Dad and he bought me the first season on DVD. So I’ve got something to keep me busy for awhile.

To that end, I finished Lost season one just before my vacation and I’ve borrowed season two already from the library so maybe I’ll get started on that when I get home tonight. I enjoyed season one, but so far I’m not sure I’d watch it again, so I’ve not bought it yet. However, I’m watching it because Michael Emerson is in season two and so maybe once his character, Ben Linus, shows up, I’ll change my mind. We’ll see.

We just finished Season 2. I've been collecting the audiobooks, but so far have only listened to The Last Wish, which is a collection of the short stories that make up much of Season 1 on Netflix. It was good, but the narrator's voicing of Geralt is very different from Henry Cavill's voicing and it takes some getting used to. :)

Antonella | 11566 comments I know I'm late to the party, but I've just ''discovered'' the incredibly talented Bo Burnham (born 1990, began his career on YouTube in 2006).

Here some of his older things (2014):

Antonella | 11566 comments Abigail Thorne has since some 9 years or so the YouTube channel Philosophy Tube. This video from January 2021 (37 minutes) had over 2 million views:

Identity: A Trans Coming Out Story
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AITRz...

Please notice that the person at the beginning of the video is an actor, it suggests what Abigail had to do before coming out, that is playing a part.

I've just ordered on paper the quoted Zami: A New Spelling of my Name by Audre Lorde. Since a long time I had wanted read something by Lorde, but probably I would have started with an essay.

Also, the TV version of The Long Call was released last Fall.

I saw a few episodes of Shetland years ago. It was good, but I never got into it.

Binged Lost season three all weekend. I definitely don’t think I’ll be watching it again, but it’s interesting. The first two seasons were more interesting though. Started four last night.

And thanks, Antonella, for posting about that coming out story!

I love the scenery and the actors' voices (we have to watch with subtitles) and have become fond of the core actors. We just finished Season 6 which ends in a cliffhanger with the plot cycle mystery resolved, but lots of other unresolved "issues.:"

Antonella | 11566 comments I found this explanation quite soothing, not only because Thay (Master = Thich Nhat Hanh) just died, but also because lately I started to have slightly morbid thoughts about getting older:

Just watched the movie Proud Mary, and wow was that good! Taraji P. Henson was amazing. AND it was clearly filmed, like, every inch was clearly filmed in my city. LOVE. Very action packed, as she's an assassin, but with heart, as she tries to do right by a 12 year old boy who's father she killed.

Antonella | 11566 comments The UN Refugee Agency UNHCR created a short free version of a game meant to inspire understanding and empathy for the plight of refugees.

Path Out is is an autobiographical adventure game that allows the players to replay the journey of Abdullah Karam, a young Syrian artist that escaped the civil war in 2014. Camouflaged as a Japanese RPG, Path Out is a tale full of surprises, challenges and paradoxical humor, giving insight in this real-life adventure, on which Abdullah comments through youtube-style videos in the game.

In fact for the long version you are asked how much would you like to pay...

Dark Winds, the latest version of Tony Hillerman's Longhorn/Chee/Manuelito books. A story in six episodes that's something of an amalgam of a couple of Hillerman's books. I liked the settings, the actors, and the first two or three episodes, then had niggles. Hillerman's books have a hardness to them — they're definitely not cozies — but something of the hard slickness of the later episodes of this series wasn't as satisfying as I'd expected. Season 2 is scheduled for 2023 release. I'll watch it.

I was curious about Dark Winds. I’m only up to book five, I think. Also trying to read more books by actual indigenous authors, but I do own the omnibus hardcovers of the first twelve Hillerman books. So far I’ve really enjoyed them. They remind me a bit of Hansen and others like him.

Anyway, pretty sure Dark Winds is on a streaming service so it’ll be awhile before I get to watch it anyway.
