E's Scrabble Group discussion

This is a game I remember from my childhood. Make a word using the letters in the previous word, but add a letter. You must rearrange the letters - just adding an S or a D isn't allowed.

A sequence might be:

age
gear
rages (gears wouldn't be allowed)

and so on.

First one to post an 8 letter word gets to start the next sequence. If this proves too easy for us (and it might), we'll see if we can think up a variation.

If it helps at all, the second word 'bury' shouldn't have stood because it didn't scramble the letters but only added a y

too bad iradiate isn't an an accepted word, but then just adding the i wouldn't do it - the letters have to be scrambled.

I kept getting stuck on that too from variates, but I don't think that variated is a word.

Yes. I looked it up online and one dictionary says that it is a word. I'll let the jury decide.

Maybe we should be a bit relaxed in this one. In any case it's in the "Collaborative International Dictionary of English" and says that lariat as a verb was in Webster's in 1913. Good enough for me.

And it's 8 letters, so Anne you're on deck to start the next one.

I think it is just a noun, but we don't seem to have many choices. Jury??
