Our May book is the novel Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. You can join us in person at our meeting in Hingham on the last Sunday of May (see group events for details) or just chat about the book here online.

I finished reading this book a few weeks ago. Overall, I liked it. there is definitely a lot of stuff to talk about!

I just started about 5 minutes ago, not sure that I'll finish! Is anyone up for moving book club to the outdoor patio of Rustic Kitchen?

Dina | 21 comments I don't think I read a book that had such a climax heading into the conclusion! This story is similar to The Baker's Daughter. I wonder if the author of the Baker's Daughter used notes or ideas from this book? Ironic since both stories revolved around bakeries during WWII Germany and both female heroines helped hide a Jew. Again, it is amazing what extremes one will go to to save oneself or others.

@ joanie: i'll add a "pretty please" to the rustic kitchen idea. that makes me terribly happy!

@dina: the source book for "those who will save us" was "frauen: german women recall the third reich," but it seems as though using a bakery as a conduit for a then/now story line seems to be repeated in many books as of late. perhaps because the target audience is women, using a benign yet relatable setting seems almost a given for many authors.

Rustic Kitchen would be good. I think I am bringing grumpus McGee again. He usually doesn't pull his "go home" routine at restaurants.

Joanie, I didn't finish this book in time for the book club I had for it earlier in the month. For shame!!! ;)

I've private messaged all the people who RSVPed yes or maybe for the event. (well, those who haven't posted in this thread yet). I've asked them if they would be up for the location change.

Hi friends, doesn't look like I can make it. Childcare fell through and after last month's debacle I figured I'd spare us all the torture of bringing the boys with me. Have some sangria for me, I'm bummed I'm missing this one!

You were missed! My little guy was there to represent the toddler set.

@ joanie: the sangria wasn't the same without you!

I finally finished the book this morning (without any sangria!) I liked it a lot even though I feel like I've been walking around with a weight in my chest since I started reading it. I'm really sad I had to miss this one-hopefully we can do another one at Rustic Kitchen in the near future!

next one is at Scarlet Oak! I know they have fine beverages there. :)

Yeah, I finished this book weeks ago and it is definitely lingering in my mind.
