okay, here you can make up your characters for the story! :) Just complete a form like this:

Here's my main character.

Name: Hadoram.
Gender: Male.
Species: Human.
Background: Parents are unknown. Was raised mostly by his uncle (whose identity will be dealt with later) until he (Hadoram) left his home seeking his uncle's brother, who disappeared nigh six years past.

In appearance Hadoram stands a little over five feet, with a slim frame but sure bearing. His black hair is cut short, and brittle stubble lies on his chin. He is nigh twenty one summers old.

There are the basics. Tidbits and other such points shall be dealt with as the story progresses.

Gender: Female
Species: Human (maybe with a bit of witch blood if it fits the story at any point)
Background(optional): I'll probably just make this up as I go along.

Haha. I like making things up as i go along. It just may take a dramatic twist to come up with it! :D

Name: Toren Silverhands

Species: Human
Background: He has been known as one of the finest stone-masons in the land. To find the match of his skill is akin to finding diamonds in a pig-trough. (Not a main character. Simply a side-man used to give a little history and background to the surroundings. I'll probably be doing things like this all through the story.)

Species: Human
Background: Taken by the dark powers after foolishly meddling too deeply in the inner workings of wizardry. Long ago, he summoned by mistake a wraith of terrible power that turned on him in anger. Scarred forever, and manipulated by forces he cannot understand, he is doomed to hunt those that seek for justice and equal-handedness for others. His victims are chosen. (This character is for the use of the group, so use him, if you like!)

Species: Demigod

Background: The name given to her, Athene, means "intellect." Athene is the daughter of Athena, goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy. Athene has known all her life what she was, and decided to train on her own. Athene is now eighteen, and is still waiting for the moment when her mother will show up.

Appearance: Athene has straight, raven black hair and glassy blue eyes. Her complexion is pale, which is why she always sun bathes.

Weapon/s of Choice: spear, twin daggers & any magical item

Name: Frea (pronounced fray-ah)

Species: Fairy
Background: Frea knew she was different from the moment she struck 10 first of all, she had wings. She wasn't like the other kids at her school, she took a special class with PRIVATE on the door. Now Frea is 18 she has developed special healing powers and is a great friend and comrade in battle. (And just between you and me she can turn into a lion,horse,wasp or bird

Appearance: Fre has golden orange hair that she always plaits and puts flowers in. Her wings have spiral and heart patterns. She wears a long flowing green,ornage or blue dress.
Weopons of choice: Healing powers,Animal power (see background.)

Name: Dirk Silverhand
Gender(Boy/Girl): Male
Species: Unknown but human in appearance
Background(optional): Unknown, but it is believed he fought in many of the great and ancient wars.
Appearance: Dresses all in black robes and goes about hooded. His left hand is covered by a single silver gauntlet. His thin face is that of a human male (short dark brown hair, crooked nose, high sharp cheek bones, harsh stubble on his chin and unusual bright purple eyes that pulsate with different intensity)

Name: Barlin
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Background: The brother of Hadoram's uncle. Having vanished several years past, he is the reason for the journeying of Hadoram. Rumors have said that he has been seen here or there, but nothing has been certain.

Name: Loron
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Background: The eldest friend of Hadoram, Loron has been with Barlin's unique nephew on many a lesser adventure. He often visited Hadoram's home in days past (for he knew well both of the boy's uncles), tarrying for weeks at a time, and then simply vanish without a word. He speaks little, and when he does it is mostly in what Hadoram calls 'mind plaguing riddles'. He carries no weapon other than his pine-wood staff, which amazingly seems to withstand any amount of abuse dealt it. He is blind, and this mistakingly leads many to believe that he may be taken advantage of. Secretly, Hadoram has come to believe that Loron might be one of the great Hon-shi, Mountain Warriors, from the great peak of Dathruel.

Appearance: Loron has never been seen in anything other than a robe, either brown, black, or green. His hair is white and long, its ends reaching his shoulders. Most often he is seen with both hands clasped behind his back.

Here's the question I always try to answer when I'm creating a character: What is this character's secret? What does this character want to hide from the world, even the people s/he cares about most? And how far will the character go to protect the secret?

The secret could be anything -- something the character has done or something character believes or something the character dreams about. It can be big or small, but to the character, it must be of great consequence, so much so that revealing it feels frightening or threatening.

When I know this, I know exactly how to push my characters' buttons and get them into hot water and force them to grow and change over the course of the novel.

That gives me a whole new perspective of characters. I just need to remember that, because it is good wisdom.

I do a similar thing with any story. I take an idea and go: so what is it that drives this plot what is the intriguing element, the secret, the mystery that needs to be uncovered? But with characters it is more: who is this character? What builds their identity and is their real identity different from their perceived identity?

You two are starting to sound confusing. :)

Name: Flash Wipep
Age: 50
Species: Human
Attitude: Sweet and friendly. He is espescially nice towards Brightstone, but there is a darkside to his life, a growing pain.

(NOTE: this character is a prop for info on Brightstone's past. He comes in later.)

Background: He knew Brightstones family before the attack, before all the bloodshed. He had a hand in Brightstone's family's murder. He is espescially nice to her to try to make up for his misdeeds. Brightstone has no idea about the his shady background. All she knows, and thinks, is that he is a very kind old man, a friend of her dead family's. Flash is burdened by his past, and not a word about it can be revealed to anyone.

Name: The Master
Age: Unknown
Appearance: Unknown

Personality: a mystery, because no-one ahs seen him in 2000 years.

What IS Known About Him: He was a small dot on the horison in decades past, but has slowly grown into a powerful, mystical being that no-one sees. Every stormcloud is his domain, yet every sky is not. He was named 'The Master' years ago, because he can take sway over many a person at any time he chooses. He makes deals with people,, using their own words against them. No-one sees him, no-one knows him, but all fear him. He has ever-watching spies everywhere.

Name: The Collector

Age: Unknown
Appearance: Dresses all in black, with tattered cape to match.

Personality: Savage, and will stop at nothing to serve his master.

Background: He is a servant to The Master, and few cross him without fear of revenge. He can't stand the metal that comes from the ruined village/town. The metal from the broken sword Brightstone collected is cursed, and all who are evil can't stand it even a cm from there skin, because it burns them with tremendous pain and can take a toll on them, making them weak. He collects everyone's payments from the deals, meaning he travels after people.
