I dont know about anyone else, but Im finding it not only harder to find these treasures of long ago,but sellers are asking an arm and a leg for a book I paid $2.99-$3.50 for! You would think with all the re-issues and freebies you can now get in ebook format the sellers would lower their prices? So I would love to hear where others who love the smell, feel, touch of an old book in their hand buy their paperbacks or swap?
Know of any that are advailable to the US as well as Canada and other countries?
Know of any great UBS in your part of town in case we visit?

If anyone is in the northern New England area, Bearly Used Books on Route 4 in Enfield, New Hampshire is GOING OUT OF BUSINESS.

*sobs*

On July 14th & 15th they're having huge sales to clean out inventory. Of course if they get a buyer for the store before then, the sales will be called off (they said, in that sad SAD email).

So even though I sorta want the bookstore to STAY, I also want to get my hands on that inventory for cheap.... :P She let me go into her romance storage and pillage a few boxes once, so I'm positive there's all kinds of goodies that haven't ever seen the light of day on her shelves. *__*

Oh wow Karla I know I would be asking for a "sneak-peak" before the sale...so will she locate anywhere else? If she has a huge inventory will she sell online?

Dagnabbit, I never get the chance to venture out into book stores to explore. In my old hometown, the town over had a big bookshop and he had an entire wall just for used romance novels. ;_; Even letcha trade in one of yours for another!

She and hubby are retiring. There's another struggling UBS about the same distance in the opposite direction and I'll start going there more often.

Oh well that's good, you wont be suffering from withdrawl symptoms as I do when I dont have a UBS to go to check out..I think I dragged my daughter to every single one out here in Calgary. And I could have brought home way more than I am. But boy was it hard to choose what to leave behind:( She had at least 15 of the Cynthia-Eagle-Harrord series. I was tempted..

That's when you make a good faith vow and say, "I'll buy lots NOW and then be GOOD the rest of the year."

And then keep on buying whatever you want anyway. :D

Misfit I have two favorites. Browser's Used Books in my hometown of Kent, WA. They have an entire wall (floor to ceiling) dedicated to romance. You ladies would think you've died and gone to heaven. Prices are fair, but not dirt cheap. He takes trade ins.

Then there is the incredibly huge Tacoma Book Center. I wouldn't call the prices cheap, but then again how many stores can you name where multiple copies of the Angelique series were just sitting around at $5 pop? An entire shelf devoted to plantation books? You never know what you'll find here. http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/10...

Ive heard you mention the one in your home town Misfit..if I ever get out that way,its one place I plan on checking out!Is the Tacoma one by you as well?
The time you got the haul of HC...was that a different place?

message 12: by Misfit (new)

Misfit The Tacoma store is about a half hour's drive from me, or SeaTac airport if anyone has a longish layover. Getting your haul back on the plane is another story.

It's a bit early and I'm still waking up so help me out. What is my HC haul?

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 840 comments Mod
Hmmmm..if I recall you got a whole bunch of HC..one was a Penman? Some other M.M.Kaye? Some hist romances..you had the lovely picture on your blog of the pile.

Ah yes..so the store is gone?

message 16: by Misfit (new)

Misfit It was some charity organization out on the Peninsula, not a store front at all. They just had an outdoor tables of books sale to raise funds.

I suppose the little UBS around there will jack up their prices unless they get moved out too.
