Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments I just discovered by accident (googling to see if I'd missed any reviews, when I should be writing), that Mark of the Dragon Queen has been nominated in the Young Adult category of the eFestival of Words Independent Ebook Awards. I don't hold out any hope of winning, as it's another of these public vote awards (and it's up against Amanda Hocking), but I've no idea who nominated it, which makes it nice! Here's a link to the books nominated -

http://www.efestivalofwords.com/viewt...

It's all part of the Virtual Book Fair being run on August 17th-19th, coordinated by Julie (Bards and Sages) on the Kindleboards. I have a shiny new badge on my blog now. I'll add it to my website, too.

Hello, I know Katie, the famous Stewart!

message 5: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments I wonder how much longer she'll speak to us.

Don't be like that, Sierra. Katie will always wave to us as her limo drives by.

Matt Posner (mattposner) | 276 comments Congratulations, excellent news.

message 9: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments One shall, of course, still speak to you all. One may even give you her autograph, if you ask nicely.

Judging of finalists will be announced at the beginning of July, so I'll let you know if I get to that stage. Then the public vote will open and Amanda's hordes will descend.

And one's husband and Corgis will also wave.

message 11: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments One will even have one's white gloves laundered especially for the occasion.

message 12: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments Personally, I think the crown is a bit much.

Hmmm, you may well be right. It's only paste after all. When one wins the Booker, one will be able to afford better.

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments I wore pasties in my former profession, but that's another story entirely...

The horses boggle. (Look it up, see that I'm right.)

message 16: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Katie, I read that on your Facebook page! Congratulations! As mentioned there I just (yesterday, in fact) finished reading Dragon Queen and I loved it. For some reason I had begun another book, got into it a page or two and then decided to read DQ. You were always good, but you just keep getting better and better. Well done, friend!

Alas, it could be a while before I post a review, but I will try harder to get it onto the schedule now that you have been nominated.

Will at least star it on GR once I sign off...

message 17: by Dakota (new)

Dakota Franklin (dakotafranklin) | 306 comments Congratulations, Katie. Don't worry about laundering the gloves. The peasants will have their heads down, touching their forelocks. They'll never notice your gloves aren't freshly laundered.

message 18: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments Dakota!!! I just had a good read through the full list and you're on it, too! For Best Action/Adventure. We can wave at the plebs together!

Kench!

Fabulous to hear Dakota's on the list too. The new book is nearing the top of my TBR list, from Matt's post the other day I better get at that list!

Dakota Franklin (dakotafranklin) | 306 comments Bloody hell!

I've been nominated twice in the eFestival of Words Best of the Independent eBook Awards, once in Action and Adventure
http://www.efestivalofwords.com/best-...
and once in Thrillers
http://www.efestivalofwords.com/best-...

I wonder who nominated Katie and me.

K.A. Jordan (kajordan) | 3042 comments I couldn't nominate my own work - so nominating friends worked just fine. LOL

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments Thanks, Kat!

K.A. Jordan (kajordan) | 3042 comments You're welcome! You deserve a shot at it.

message 27: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Kat! What a nice thing to do. I do agree they both deserve to be on that list...

Keep us posted on when we can vote, folks!

message 28: by Dakota (new)

Dakota Franklin (dakotafranklin) | 306 comments Kat's snake cover should have been in there. If found this about the shortlisting procedure.

"Finalists will be decided on overall presentation and production value."

Maybe Katie's fears aren't realised, maybe Amanda Hocking and Joe Konrath don't make it through the presentation and production value stage, and their hordes of fans don't get a chance to vote for them.

Still, nice to be nominated.

The full paragraph reads:
"Staff and volunteers involved in the eFestival of Words program will narrow down nominee lists to finalists. Volunteers will judge nominations on overall production value and presentation by reviewing available information about the book (previews, third-party reviews, author websites, etc). Finalists will be decided on overall presentation and production value."

message 29: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Yeah, that snake cover rocks!

I've never read past the sample of any of AH's or JK's books, but if they are a true sample you both have a fighting chance - as long as the judges do not have a pre-disposition to any author. Which I would not expect from Julie.

message 30: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Jordan (kajordan) | 3042 comments I think I've read one book from each. I liked Hocking's book 'Hollowland' alot!

message 31: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments I actually downloaded Hollowland yesterday. This convo reminded me to check out both AH and JK to see if their covers had improved. Amanda's have, JK's (which I always thought were awful and were one reason I couldn't take him seriously) are better too, but it looks as if he pretty much only co-writes books now. He's good at promotion, good on him for that, and he's certainly been successful at getting indie Kindle books priced at $2.99.

Hollowland was free, I may even read it one day...
