Next Sunday I'll be starting the next up in the series H.M.S. Surprise and hopefully there will be more action on the water as these are definitely the bits I'm enjoying the most. I assume there will be some new characters and lots of interesting wildlife for Stephen Maturin to study.

Hi Ace, I didn't resist and I read this book a while ago...I found It much better than the previous one, AND I discovered that I have forgotten enough to really enjoy the re-read.

Hello Simona, it's good that you are ahead of the game this time.

I'm about half way through "Surprise" and it feels a little bit like a merri-go-round of Dr. Doolittle, Jane Austen and then naval battle/extraordinary sea crossing. I'm going to try to enjoy the romance aspects and I do understand that when you are out at sea the days are long and you get a bit introspective, so I'll let Stephen and Aubrey have their little girl crushes and hope that there is a bloody wedding soon.
Also, Dr Maturin is behaving quite strangely in Bombay, lets hope he buys a sari soon and does the decent thing LOL.

I think that there's very little interest in the "buddy reading" aspects of the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey and Maturin series, so I think we will dispense with the group activity and schedule. By all means post here if you do read any more of the books and want to discuss. Thanks for the comments to date.
