Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I don't understand. That comment makes no sense out of context, and not much more on the actual page. Anyway, I don't know if that is a "typical" person who hasn't read HP.

I think that there are 3 main types of people who haven't read Harry Potter: The "Fundamentalist Christian Who Thinks Anything To Do With Witches Or Wizards is Evil" crowd, the "I'm Too Cool To Read Children's or YA Lit" crowd, and the "I Think Everything Is Stupid" crowd.

I'm sure that there are more, but those are the three that come directly to mind.

message 3: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Or, now that I am thinking about it, Aneri, maybe that person doesn't even know that there ARE books. Maybe they just think that they are movies, and don't like them so posted that ridiculous message. *shrug*

message 4: by Aneri (new)

Aneri | 186 comments guess ur right-thats not the typical person..but he is an annoying person

just makes me sooooooooooooo mad to have people think that these books were meant for weirdos.

message 5: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Gay people aren't weirdos, they are just people. But I don't know if that's even what that person meant. I think they just use the term interchangably with "stupid" or "retarded" or something.

Unless they are saying that because of Dumbledore being gay, but that just means that the person who posted that is even more ignorant, in my opinion.

I will agree that people like that are annoying and would be better off just staying quiet, but I think they like the attention.

message 6: by Novin (last edited Jan 02, 2009 10:50AM) (new)

Novin There are so many people who hate harry potter for no reason, and I don't get that. The girl who sits next to me at school is one of those, and this really annoys me, because she hasn't read a single line of the books, (she hasn't watched the movies either) but she hates Rowling and all HP stuff. I dunno if that person is one of those or not, but he is unlikely to have read the books, these are probably the people who like Becky said think they are too COOL to read stuff like that & think everything is stupid, it really ain't worth it to let them get on your nerves...

message 7: by Jana (new)

Jana | 34 comments Maybe this person (The freak out one) read the books and thinks that the movies suck. It's possible.

message 8: by Novin (new)

Novin don't think so , when he says Harry is JUST A NERD WHO IS A WIZARD AND HAS A LIGHTNING SYMBOL ON ITS HEAD NOTHING ELSE he hasn't read the books...

message 9: by Jana (new)

Jana | 34 comments Oh yeah, didn't think of that.

there is also the crowd who won't read it just to say they didn't but that kinda fits into the three groups

message 11: by Aegine (new)

Aegine | 359 comments You know, living in a small town might actually be a good thing. Everyone here is either indifferent and only watches the movies because there's nothing better to do or they love Harry Potter.

I agree on the whole ignorant part. There's a better word than using "gay."
GET A DICTIONARY WOULD YA?!

Tridib Biswas | 5 comments rebels don't read HP

message 14: by Lorna (new)

Lorna ^^at school my 17 year old friend was from a fanatically religious family and wasnt allowed to read Harry Potter.

She borrowed the books from me and would read them under the covers with a torch all night :).

Oh that arse was just being an arse. Some people get off on upsetting others. He probably reads Harry under the covers, just like everyone else :)

Looks ok. I'll probably check it out if my library has it...

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 246 comments I highly doubt that that is the typical type of person who hasn't read the books. Plenty of my friends haven't read them simply because they don't like fantasy, others because they just don't find them interesting, and others because they just don't read. They all understand that people have different tastes, just like some people like Twilight, while others don't.

message 19: by Aegine (new)

Aegine | 359 comments Hmm true. I just wish people would stop giving me weird looks when I spaz out on HP. *sigh*...

message 20: by Aneri (new)

2 - People that are not creative, they tend to find the HP series dull

There's also the "I'm Not Going To Read It Because It's So Popular" crowd, and the "I'll Read It, But Only So I Can Tell People I've Read It And Hated It" crowd. And lots more.

message 26: by Joe (new)

Joe | 57 comments Btw, in connection to the first problem, can't there only really be one sequel?
Also, I don't think the person gets how complicated the wizarding world is. I don't get why people go to SOOO much trouble just to express their hate for something, the more haters there are, the more famous it'll make it don't it? They're just to blinded by hatred (< LOL get it?) to get that they're being beneficial to what they clearly hate.

message 27: by Lily (new)

Lily Sawyer I didn't want to read the Harry Potters at first because they were like the biggest book as I'd ever seen and I had tried to read them before but as a 10 year old the beginning was quite boring but when I started to read them I couldn't stop, what a glorious 3 weeks of my life that was.
