Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) | 21 comments "Tangled" was the new Disney movie that came out a few years back and was based on the story "Rapunzel." I really enjoyed this movie since it's like the older Disney fairy tale movies like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. This movie was just so hilarious and I just loved Rapunzel in this film!

So, what does everyone else think about this film?

Siareen | 35 comments I loved it too. It completely fits in with the 'old' Disney crowd. the movie is hilarious and the way they worked with the tale was pretty good too.
I liked how her tears heal him like they heal his eyes in the fairy tale, and i loved the interpretation for the length of her hair.
Also, Mother Gothel is one of the most awesome Disney villeins of all time :P

Lauren (lauren0924) | 6 comments Love this movie! It was awesome to see Disney do another fairy tale movie in the style of the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, and aladdin.

Yeah! I haven't seen Disney do a fairy tale movie for a long time since The Princess and the Frog.

Siareen | 35 comments the princess and the frog really wasnt that good. i didn't like it. tangled was much better...

Shereen Vedam | 146 comments I liked Tangled, too. Funny and sweet.

I have to agree. Tangled was awesome, but I didn't really like Princess and the Frog. I have missed the old Disney fairy tales though.

message 8: by Caitriona (new)

Caitriona In my humble opinion, both Princess and the Frog and Tangled were really good. Princess was more traditional, and Tangled was more...modern, shall we say.

message 9: by Cindy III (new)

Cindy III It was good. The only version of Rapunzel I had read before it was Zel by Donna Jo Napoli (I like her name). When I went to go see it I was still pleasantly surprised by Tangled.

The Princess and the Frog was good too.

Ponyo, Hayao Miyazaki's version of The Little Mermaid, was good too.

I think 'Tangled' is more modern because of her use of words like 'like' in songs etc. It's closer to its original source material than 'Princess', though, so I see where you're coming from. 'Beauty and the Beast' will always be my favourite film, personally.

Tony (tmpalao) | 12 comments By far, Disney's best adaptation of a classic in decades. Not since 'Beauty & The Beast' have they offered anything even remotely as surefooted & competent as this. Casting Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel was a stroke of genius - I. Loved. It.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite too, not that Tangled wasn't awesome. It's my favorite in a long time.

Rose (plainsrose) | 5 comments I love Disney! I agree that Tangled was a lot of fun but there is something more to Beauty and the Beast. My question is, what is it? Perhaps it's because Belle is all grown up, and hence has more depth?

message 15: by Rose (new)

Rose (plainsrose) | 5 comments Or maybe it's the opening musical of Beauty and the Beast - with the whole town singing. It's fabulous.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I always liked Beauty and the Beast because it seemed more real. Belle and Beast weren't just instantly in love with each other. I suppose it has that in common with Tangled though. You might be on to something with the whole grown up thing, I'm not sure.

Tony (tmpalao) | 12 comments B & B offers an honest portrayal of a developing relationship; absent is any Love-At-First-Sight nonsense or a hapless maiden being swept off her feet. Instead, we watch as two people stumble & falter towards each other, each filled with insecurity & doubt. Very realistic and, yes, very grown-up. I think this is what makes the movie so appealing - most of us can relate to it.

Tangled offers a similar take on the dynamics of a romantic relationship. Its just done with a lighter touch & a lot more humor.

Shereen Vedam | 146 comments When I was researching B&B in January for an edit I was doing for a novel, I came across a site that spoke of motifs and themes and symbols in the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty (I'm editing this note since I mixed up my fairy tales, sorry).

I doubt they did as much work on Tangled.

Still, this article is definitely worth a read:

Thanks for the link Shereen. Haven't read it yet but it looks fascinating - can't wait.

B&B is by far my favorite Disney "Princess" movie. I've wondered for a long time why it was, and your comment totally hit home! But also, unlike most of the other disney princess stories (and princess stories in general) Belle is intelligent and very noble. Most other princesses sit around waiting for a prince/fish/godmother/mother to come and rescue them. Whereas in B&B she is the one who does the rescuing. And that's refreshing.

And I LOVE the music in both B&B and Tangled which is another reason I like them so much.

I'm glad you think so. And as crazy nuts as I am for Tangled (that horse...HA!) I have to agree that of the two heroines, Belle is definitely the one who has it pulled together; Rapunzel tends to be a bit more dreamy-eyed & impetuous.

BTW, has anyone seen "Tangled: Ever After" yet? Its a 6 minute short that takes place at Rapunzel & Eugene's wedding. Hysterically funny.

yes! I saw it when I went to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D (awesome of course). It was a funny short!

Red Tash (redtash) | 7 comments You know, we went to DisneyWorld this year, and as much as my sons protested eating dinner at Cinderella's castle, they all enjoyed it. One of them even posed with all the princesses. ;)
