Mike | 12 comments I am interested in hearing opinions about the setting of Hyperion (not necessarily the individual stories) and how well it would lend to a video game's method of telling a story or exploring a world (or galaxy in this case).

Do you think the background of Hyperion (the book, not the planet) is fleshed out enough that you could see yourself playing in it as a space combat simulator, an MMO, or a point and click adventure? Personally, finishing the first book made me want reinstall SM's Alpha Centauri.

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Sins of a solar Empire come to mind with some of the bigger space battles - particular in book 3 & 4 there are some good ship vs ship battles.

Brawne and Johnny's story could be a L.A. Noire type game.

Kassad's combat may translate to some FPS roleplaying.

In book 3 & 4 you could do some RPG definitely with Raul Endymions story.

P. Aaron Potter (paaronpotter) | 585 comments Absolutely! A classic side-scrolling bash-'em-up, Double-Dragon style, only with a new playable character added at the end of each level as you unlock first the Priest, then the soldier, scholar, and so on, wach with their own special finishing move! Watch in awe as Kassad's twin Hellwhip attack takes out another virtual soldier! Be amazed by the fabulous level design in The Poet's house, replete with Farcaster doors which teleport you across the screen! Drop another quarter in to unlock the awesome two-fisted style of The Detective and her parasitic robot lover! All this and more as you work your way up to the ultimate enemy, a showdown with the insanely difficult Shrike, the Ultimate Boss Battle!!!!...

Which doesn't actually show up in the game, only on the box cover art.

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments @P. Aaron - Ha Ha. Brilliant! Add with a message at the end with the credits that Double Dragon 2 can be purchased online immediately for the same price as 1 with the promise you will actually get to fight the BOSS Shrike as promised on the cover of the first game. Please click here and select Visa, Mastercard or Paypal.

Jonathan | 185 comments Oddly enough, there have been aspects of the story popping up in games, though the stories themselves have not. It can be done, but probably not as a single game as each story fits a completely different genre and stylistic presentation. David Sven pointed that out rather nicely. If it is done as a single game, it would probably need to be a multi-disc game though. At least this is the case for specifically Hyperion.

Variador | 6 comments While reading book four this came into my mind many times. Endymions' journeys and modes of movement sounded fun and challenging.

Ned (thegratefulned) | 13 comments It would certainly make for a wonderful tabletop role-playing setting.
