This question is specifically for those who love/like PNR. What do you like best in a PNR hero?

message 2: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments The Alpha male attitude.

Bethann (bsedam) | 5 comments When H says "MINE"

message 4: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I like like both of the aboves but I also like when he gets jealous, because things definitely heat from there.

message 6: by Jill (new)

Jill They sort of have King of the world attitudes, you know masters of there own domain, totally in control, i love that. That makes me and the heroine feel safe and secure. Also there possessivness really does something for me, so yeah definitely when they say "MINE". Thats always a real winner.

message 7: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments I agree with you ladies. I love the alpha male attitude. Also, a witty smart ass sense of humor. I love a guy that can make me laugh.

I love a possessive/jealous hero, and I think that they work particularly well in PNR books. I like that fated mate connection and that he will do anything to protect his heroine.

message 9: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 18 comments I agree with the possessive MINE attitude. My knees also totally turn to jelly when the hero oozes a natural confidence that is just on the right side of arrogance. ;) So yeah, Alpha Male all the way.

Awilk -never sleeps- (awilk) | 98 comments I can't pass up a tortured hero. He must also be an alpha-type, who is gentle and loving to his heroine.

message 11: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t seems like its the fellas we like -- a lot! in all their madness

I love a tortured hero too, Awilk.

I like the PNR hero a lot, but I also like the fantastical world-building. I think in a PNR the author can bend a lot more rules to deliver a happy ending. I like that about them.

message 13: by Wan (last edited May 24, 2012 10:16AM) (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 252 comments All of the above! And the sky-the-limit aspect of PNR with all sort of powers and unnatural physical strenght (and stamina).

message 14: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments I love it when they are so dangerous and lethal (because of their power), but protective with their woman and with kids/little animals, etc. That totally makes me swoon :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I love the possessiveness! The over the top alphatude... heh heh. I made a new word.

Ashley (shinhbang) | 139 comments Definitely the alpha male attitude. And when he says or thinks: "mine". Oh, that one word makes me shiver in a good way. The BDB and IAD males are good with that =)

message 18: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 181 comments All the things that have been mentioned so far turn me on. What makes the guy special though is how no matter how strong and how bad-ass, he is just mush in the hands of his woman. That inner vulnerability just melts me. He recognizes that she is his heart.

message 19: by Fashionista (new)

Fashionista (fashionista99) | 187 comments It's just something about when the H says, "My Mate" that makes me shiver and my heart beats faster! ;-)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! I couldn't agree more Andrea. That inner vulnerability gets me everytime. He is hers for the taking. Love it!

Ladymcbeth | 16 comments I enjoy an alpha male attitude, and possessiveness !
Love when the hero says "MINE" ... that makes me shiver too ^^

message 24: by Ladymcbeth (new)

Ladymcbeth | 16 comments and also when the hero shapeshifts in a kind of beast but always with a sort of human shape, he is really really dangerous but he treats the heroin with car and gentelness ... it makes me melt <3

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments It's always the caring way he treats he heroine that gets to me too!

message 27: by Louise (new)

Louise Kemp | 1 comments I love layers to the male lead. Zsadist in The Black Dagger Brotherhood is my favorite !!! He is a complex character because of his past, and his past and his experiences make him dark, dangerous and very hot!! In reality if a man said 'mine' to me and was as controlling as some of these guy I would be filing a restraining order so I'm not sure why I fine that sooo sexy in a book but I do!!
** ahhh Zsadist sigh **

message 28: by Deana (new)

Deana (dstom) | 8 comments I agree with pretty much everyone here - it's the possessive, protective "MINE"-ness of the H that totally makes me weak in the knees. And acknowledging the h has his heart is the icing on the cake. :)

ohhh yes jealousy.....I agree with all you ladies

I also like when a hero tries to lord over a heroine and she outsmarts him and he get's all cranky and mad about it.

message 30: by Katya (last edited Jun 19, 2012 04:17AM) (new)

Katya | 327 comments I love the Humor between the heroine and hero-a real turn-on....love the quotes in the Thea Harrison Elder Races Series: (Sorry so long)

“You're mine," he said. "You can deny it, argue, throw fits, try to run away. But. You're. Still. Mine."

"You almost died, you little shit”

“This was both creepy and... thoughtful.”

“I take it back," Rune said. "You're not an utter heroine. You're a drama queen.”

“She called me ‘my lady,’ ” she told him in a plaintive voice. “I don’t know who that is. I’m no lady.” The last of his fury faded away to be replaced with a quick gleam. He peered under the sheet. “I can attest to that.”

“You’re not as sexy as I think you are.” She squinted. Wait. That hadn’t come out right.”

"Get back over here so I can smack you.” “Yeah, I’ll get right on that.”

“He stared at her neck. Realization pulsed. He was looking at the bite he had given her. A hard length was growing against her hip. “So, is that your long, scaly, reptilian tail, or are you just happy to see me?” No, she did not just say that. Did she?”

And The humor/banter between hero/heroine in Sentinel Wars by Shannon K Butcher:

“I didn't mean to push your psycho button.”

"'Buckle up.' He told her (Nika). 'And don't even think about trying anything stupid. I have a roll of duct tape in the back, and I swear to God that if you make me use it, we'll both regret it.'" He buckles her seat belt and she asks him, "'Why do you act like such a jerk?' He answers, 'It's not an act and if you don't like it, stay away from me.'"
"What's wrong with you?" Nika asks Madoc. He responds, "I'm an incurable asshole."

"You stay here, stay safe." He kissed her forehead and darted out the door, sword in hand." Nika turned to glare at Logan. "You try to stop me and I'll find a dozen new and interesting ways to make you regret it." Logan lifted his elegant hands, a small smile playing at the corners of his luscious mouth. "I would never dare to stand between a woman and the man whom she plans to teach a lesson. I prefer to watch the show."

And from D.B. Reynolds Vampires in America:

"I've done nothing lately that was bad, and YOU are hardly helpless and probably not that innocent either."

"Look at me, Sarah." She did. "What ever it is, whatever is going on...it can't be that bad. I'm a vampire sweetheart. I drink human blood on a regular basis. What can you possibly have to tell me that could top that?"

"Not up to eternal fidelity?" And Lonnie shakes his head and says, "No nutritional value."

Katya | 327 comments Here is what makes my heart beat the faster: How about those declarations of unconditional love...sigh....is that not wonderful?:

“Listen to me. I did not say I was falling in love with you, if only you would hide some part of yourself or change some aspect to try to please me. I said I was falling in love with you—all of you. I don’t want you to curb yourself, deny yourself, cover up your face or head or any part of your body. I don’t want you to lose or gain weight, or watch what you say, or deny how you feel, or try to be anything but who you are, because who you are is the most beautiful person in the world to me.”
-Thea Harrison

message 34: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) I love the fight:

“And here we go. She's bristling and my hackles go up. Bloody hell, I feel fangs coming on. Tell you what, Ms. Lane," Barrons said softly, "Anytime you want to have a conversation with me, leave the myriad issues you have with wanting to fuck me every time you look at me outside my cave, come on in, and see what you find. You might like it.”

And the attitude:

"God said: Let there be light!
I said: Say please."

I loved those quotes, Katya!

Humor is so crucial!

I just finished Predatory Game and Jesse definitely made my heart beat faster. He is caring and loving, but also fierce and deadly. *Thud*
