Kumar Ankur (kankur) | 1 comments Hi all, I am Kumar from India. I came across and joined this group a couple of days back. I have been looking through the threads and discussions here. And I must say, this is just the kind of group I have been looking for.

Lately I have developed an interest in non fiction books especially world-history. I was looking for a place where I can get to know about books from this genre, and discuss them with people with similar interests. And this is it. I have already found a number of books to add to my to-read shelf. Thanks to this group. Hoping to have a good time here :)

message 5602: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Welcome, Kumar. You will have a good time here as there are many excellent book recommendations and discussions.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Tommy (hbmoose25) Hello,

My name is Tommy. Just figured I'd introduce myself. I'm going to be finishing up my final two years of college after about a 5 year layoff (due to my old job) beginning this spring and I'm going to be getting my degree in History. I would like to become a history teacher and high school baseball coach.

I think this book club will definitely me on the road to my degree. I love to read and I'm hopefully going to participate in some of the discussions here, but at the very least I will definitely use this as a place to get book recommendations and also read up on the discussions as well. I feel like online communities such as the History Book Club will be a great addition to my learning and goal to becoming a history teacher.

Thanks for making this club available!

Look forward to participating!

Greetings from The Valley of the Sun (Arizona),

Very new to this group thing but it looks like a ton of fun! I'm a huge history junkie; I tend to just read whatever I come across. I think the gorup's structured reading schedule will be refreshing, and it'll be nice to actually be able to discuss the things I'm reading with other people :)

To summarize me: my name is Amber, I work in retail and spend what little free time I have in bars and bookstores. Other interests include the color yellow, Russia, zombie lore, and Netflix.

I'm not sure where to start just yet so I'm going to wander around silently for bit and eventually just jump right in. Happy reading :)

Mark Mortensen Welcome Amber to the world wide History Club. Your interest in bars and books can make a great combination as witnessed by Boston’s elegant Hampshire House that was formerly a private mansion on Beacon Hill. The intimate second floor library features oak paneled bookshelves, soaring ceilings with crystal chandeliers, a fireplace, a bar and massive windows overlooking the historic Boston Public Garden. If the right background music causes your mind to drift you might be inclined to put the book down for a moment and dance on the adjacent ballroom floor.

message 5637: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello all! I'm really glad I joined the club, what I've managed to read so far is both fun and stimulating.
My name is Luciana Nadalutti. I'm a Brazilian with deep Italian roots, which means that I feel Italian when I'm in Brazil, and Brazilian when I'm in Italy. After getting a B.D. in Economics, I ended up going back to my passion: languages! Now I'm a Conference Interpreter and Translator, a profession that allows me to indulge in studying a wide variety of topics in my working languages. I feel real lucky!
Why, one of my passions is History, of course. Seems like I've come to the right place! I'm new to Goodreads and the HCG, but I feel I'll be around often.
I'm interested in History from all over, and tend to favor books who manage to unite art, culture, politics, religion aspects through good narrative (like How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill by Thomas Cahill , one of my favorite books ever).
I would like to ask you guys for suggestions: I'm looking for good "introductory level" books about American History: I want to both to correct the clichés I was taught in school and to bridge the gaps in my knowledge, so I guess I'm looking for one of those classic books that provide an outline for readings to follow. I was thinking of
A History of the American People by Paul Johnson by Paul Johnson . Please let me know of other interesting titles you've read! Thanks!

Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. You did well with your posts above, just missing the author links. This is how books you mentioned should look:
How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill by Thomas Cahill Thomas Cahill
