I have yet to tackle

And like Alisa said I will look into the varied discussions!

Hope that helps. You'll get the hang of it but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Happy reading!

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo (when available) and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text, because this visual alignment not only calls the reader's attention to the book/author promotion, but helps Goodreads software connect books with groups and further increases the readability of your posts.
This is how a book you might mention should look:

Hi Marie, Mike, welcome to the group!
Apart from all the fascinating discussions on history we also have quite a few fine threads on music - all kinds from all places.
Come and take a look/listen if you like.
Best wishes,
André

I am German, living in Belgium and reading almost exclusively in English. I just started updating my goodreads shelves and realised that of the books I read in the last years the non-fiction ones left the biggest impression. At the same time I find them the hardest to rate. So I am hoping for some insight and feedback through this group.
I am currently not reading anything related to this group though because I need a little break from the "heavy" stuff. I am still somewhat haunted by

and trying to get my head around

I have a feeling that my next foray into history will probably be another American president ;-). And soon.

I am living in Meadville, PA and working at Allegheny College. I am a big history buff, and am looking for an opportunity to get in touch with others with my passion for the past. Currently Im reading Tell Me How This Ends: General David Petraeus and the Search for a Way Out of IraqLinda Robinson and I am also reading some William Faulkneron the side for fun

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post . Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how the books and authors you mentioned should look:

Thanks and glad you joined us.

Welcome Paul, Mike, Marie, Silke and Quinn. There's a lot of history out there, and we cover it all here.

My name's Cameron. Goodreads just got so much more awesome because I found this group. I'm fascinated by all history, but I'm especially interested in the history of Christianity and Nazi Germany. I'm currently making my way through a book about the textual history of the New Testament, and I'm about to start Richard J. Evans' book In Defense of History, and there's a dozen more in line after that.

Hi Everyone,
I am Doug. I am 28. I live in Indiana. I first took interest in reading about history in college when I picked up Howard Zinn's Declarations of Independence. (and then A People's History of course). Once I realized that there was so much more to studying history than the garbage in the K-12 text books, I was hooked. I took a Civil War class as an elective that centered around James McPherson's Battle Cry of Freedom. I am especially interested in American history, all the way from the British colonies to today (I'll add 2 more favorites below). I like to draw on other sources while I read a book to compare perspectives and supplement what I'm getting out of the book. I always take notes and add them to my extensive notebooks about various topics. I have read many books over the years and had chats with family members who read them too, but I really look forward to exchanging ideas with a bigger group here.
Mentioned above:
Howard Zinn
James M. McPherson
My other favorites:
Jay Winik
Murray N. Rothbard
