Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.
This is how the book should look:

Hi David, Eileen, welcome to the group.
Apart from all the fascinating discussions on history we also have quite a few fine threads on music - all kinds from all places.
Come and take a look/listen if you like.
Best,
André

Welcome David we love history majors in the club. UNC Charlotte is on the rise with a well built campus and J. Murrey Atkins Library. I wish the 49er Nation much success with your new 2013 football program.

Besides reading history books I also knit (friend me at Ravelry under NolaLola!) and I'm a member of a Doctor Who-themed Mardi Gras parading Krewe. Can't wait to get started on the books!

Glad to be a member of this group. I have a special love for history, particularly military and ancient history. I am currently reading Diamonds, Gold, and War: The Making of South Africa by Martin Meredith because I am in an Africa phase right now. I can't wait to begin to contribute.

I'm Tom. Not a big reader, but when I do it's usually history. Hoping that joining this group will spur me on to read and discover more. My daughter recently joined, so this is also a family adventure.

From there I've hit the ground running and since I'm applying to transfer to a bunch of top tier (or almost top tier :-P) schools in the fall, I've really tried to learn as much as I can about as much as I can. I'm a History major right now, but I'm planning on (at least) double majoring when I get to a new school (either in Political Science or Economics). I'm very interested in the history of economics and conflicting political systems, and so that's where most of my study takes me. I recently finished John Adams, by David McCullough

I usually pick a book about something, place, or time that I know little about.
I am always hoping to find recommendations for new books.
I'm thrilled to find a group of people who don't think me odd for reading 95% non-fiction.

Welcome to Travis of NNY, and good effort on using the citations. You came close - it will come as second nature after you do it a few times.
