My name is Fred and I'm from Wyoming. I'm a certified Social Studies Teacher and am studying to be a paralegal. I love reading all kinds of history. Lately I've been reading alot about the Supreme Court. However, the book I'm reading right now is Doris Kearn's Goodwin's Team of Rivals. I am a little late for the current book but I may join in on the Metaphysical Club book. I look forward to interesting conversations.

Wow, welcome Larry, Gareth, Carly and Fred to the History Club. I enjoyed reading about your interests. Have fun.

My name is Elizabeth and I'm 24 years old. I live in Kentucky (Louisville, to be precise). I have a BA in psychology and did two minors in English with a concentration in literature and Medieval Studies. I studied French for 5 years and have experience with Japanese, German, and Latin. One of my dreams is to translate Medieval Latin and French manuscripts. The other is to eventually become an archaeologist.

Currently, I work with toddlers as a teacher in a daycare. It's not exactly my dream job, or the best use of my degree, but it works for now. I am going back to school in August to work towards a degree in education so that I can become a third grade teacher. I also plan on doing another major in either microbiology or anthropology. I do enjoy some aspects of my job such as being able to teach my children and the joy that I receive when they finally catch on to what I've taught them. I also enjoy the smiles, hugs, and kisses that I get from my kids when I come to work in the mornings.

I am an avid reader and have been since I was a child. I generally read anything except westerns, romance, and inspirational/Christian books. I quite enjoy horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and mysteries. I have also gotten into the Quirk classics recently. Right now, I am reading Android Karenina. Classic literature is another favorite of mine with Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, HP Lovecraft, Victor Hugo, and Gaston LeRoux being among my favorites.

I look forward to making new friends and taking part in book discussions.

Hello, I'm Chuck from the Hudson Valley in NY; just joined, I am one of those of you who has been reading history since I was a kid in the Bronx, (along time ago) and never gave it up, I love it more now that I am 58 than ever, I had a few(very few) great history teachers along the way who encouraged my passion to better know and understand the past - I appreciate the chance to connect with others who share that same passion; I won;t post much, work, wife, grandchild and organizations have a way of taking over my week, but will look forward to catching comments, reviews, etc moving forward.

Terror and Consent : The Battle for the Twenty-first Century This is something I read in 2008 and while challenging, was an invigorating exploration of the need to adjust the rules of the road for the new century, the furor over Zero Dark Thirty makes it more so today....hope this post comes out ok, my first....

Hello! My name is Athena and I recently graduated from university with an honours degree in English and History. I am one of the few people in my circle of friends that seriously enjoys reading a good non-fiction. My interests lie primarily in the history of crime and punishment, european military history, U.S. Civil War, as well as Canadian history (with a primary focus on the 1759 Battle on the Plains of Abraham).

I look forward to the interesting discussions on these boards! I admit, I am a bit more of a lurker than anything else; I am a bit shy when it comes to expressing myself. I do, however, look forward to learning more about history and expanding my knowledge in different fields.

I'm an attorney practicing in the field of labor & employment law for a little over 20 years.
My wife Donna & I are the proud parents of an 11 year-old boy - Daniel - and a 6-month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Griffin.

Good for you for getting the much physical exercise through organized hockey. My hockey days of long ago were simple winter pick-up games on ponds playing until the sun went down. At night as a youth I’d lay in bed following the Boston Bruins on the radio. :-)

Hi Group,
I'm Diana Rubino, and history is one of my passions.
I'm 1/3 of the way to a Masters in Archaeology at Plymouuth State University in NH.
My fav eras are medieval and Renaissance England, and all of American history. My newest favorite American is Aaron Burr, he knocked Lincoln out of first place.
I enjoy biographies of the presidents and first ladies, and any books set in New York City through the ages. Looking forward to some interesting discussions!

When I'm not trying to break software (I'm not a black hat, it's my job), I enjoy reading, photography, movies, bird-watching, friends and family. My history interests include the American Civil War, the Americas, SCOTUS, Europe, science and local history here in Southern Arizona.

I'm currently working with other feminists to help record and archive stories of women's activism in the Southwest USA from the early 1970s onward.
