ARCHIVE ONE: PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF ~

I signed up for the group a few weeks ago but have been trying to follow along a bit to get a feel for it before jumping in. I've had the book "The First World War" by John Keegan on my to-read list for a while now and when I saw a discussion was starting for this book, it seemed the perfect time to officially jump in. Thank you!
We are delighted to have you with us Kim. You are right we will be starting the discussion of the book by Keegan on February 21st. We are happy to have you with us.

Well, we are glad to have you with us and are looking forward to reading your posts.
Thanks again,
Joe

Welcome to the group. My wife and I are actually planning a trip to that part of the world, possibly in the fall. Any suggestions?

Hello Lexi,
We are delighted to have you with us. We are developing a more robust American Civil War folder. And there is already a well developed general thread. We have a World War II thread as well. So you are in good company.

Hi JP and Jan,
We now have a traveler thread where this great discussion can take place. This thread is just reserved for intros and welcomes. Let me post the link here to help out:
The thread is called Travel Talk and is in our conversation folder:

Hello Edd..welcome to the History Book Club. We are glad to have you with us.
We love history here...not sure about addicted to it on a religious level (smile).
I am sure that you will find a good group of people here to discuss your love of history. Sorry about the loans.

Welcome to the group, I think I fit that profile of being addicted to history, it is a religion to me! Sorry Bentley I don't have much religion but going into a library is like going into a church, a place of reverence for me :)

We are all happy to have you with us. Please stop by the thread of your choice, and post some interesting thoughts on history.
Joe

I am so glad to have found this place - I recently graduated from college. I majored in history, and one of my greatest worries upon completing my studies is that I would no longer be a part of a community or group to learn and discuss new topics in history.
As an undergrad, I studied many areas but I am most partial to Russian history, post-Napoleonic Europe and 20th century world history.
However, having been released from the constant required non-fiction reading, lately I've been delving into a lot of easy reads.
I'm currently living in New York City.
CM,
Welcome to The History Book Club. We are glad that you found us too. (smile)
We all love history and there are many different folders where you can discuss all aspects of history and also discuss some great books along the way with some moderated discussions.
Russian History..now that is an area we can potentially enhance although we do have a thread on the Russian Revolution but there is so much more to the history of Russia.
Aussie Rick, our Assisting Moderator - Military History will love the fact that you have joined, he loves talking about Napoleon and post Napoleonic Europe. I am sure we can enhance our world history section with some of your suggestions.
We have a number of books being discussed now; so jump into any of the discussions which suit you. We look forward to reading your posts.
You live in my neck of the woods and my part of the world; but our group is global from pretty much everywhere.
All best,
Bentley

My name is Lanore, and I am new to this group and goodreads in general. I just received the John Keegan book from amazon, so I am excited to take part in my first discussions. I am 24 years old, and work the reception desk at a gym in Manhattan. The reason I joined this group is become I want to learn as much as I can about history and just become more involved in history in general.
I look forward to joining in discussions with you all!

Hello Lanore,
We are delighted to have you join us along with CM. Glad that you have received your copy of the Keegan book.
Another Manhattanite like CM...a very small world. I think you will find what you are looking for and you will get out of the group as much as you put into it.
Hope you enjoy the Keegan book and get a lot out of it.

We are all happy to have you. If you need any help finding your way around, please feel free to contact us.
Thanks for joining the History Book Club. We are looking forward to reading your posts.

My particular historical interests are early American history, the history of medical, scientific, and engineering advances, and I seem to have a fascination with Russia as well as European history. But really, I'm interested in all corners of the world and how we got to be where we are. So I think this is a perfect group for me.
As for me personally, I retired early from a management position at the age of 48, only to find that I missed the corporate environment. So, last summer I began a new career as an administrative assistant in the research & development department at GOJO Industries, Inc. (manufacturers of PURELL and other skin care products). I'm now 50, loving my job, and feeling re-energized.
Looking forward to "meeting" friends here online.
P.S. Great to see some Michigan folks here. My family lives in the thumb area (some around Frankenmuth and some further into the thumb near Bad Axe). And I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in accounting.
Sorry for the long post - I'm usually NOT this long-winded!

The History Book Club here on goodreads has been growing quite steadily, and I would like to extend our new members a warm welcome.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, and most of all, don't be shy about participating in any discussion that suits your fancy.
Welcome aboard!
Joe

Glad to have you with us Kevin. I think genealogy is interesting too. You find out a lot about the past which sometimes is quite illuminating. Hope you enjoy yourself here.

Chris, it sounds wonderful to teach AP and honors history classes. Even if you don't read along with, you'll surely find a lot to discuss if you want. Glad to have you.
Hello Chris,
We are glad to have you join us and I am sure there will be many threads where you can participate with your background. Look forward to reading your posts.

I joined goodreads on account of a friend loving the site to death. I read a lot when I was younger, but became interested in everything else throughout teenage-hood and barely picked anything up. In the last year or 2 I've started reading heavily again, and it's all nonfiction.
I read travel adventure books, a few science-fictions here and there, but I've become addicted to Military HIstory, particularly Vietnam.
Figured this was as good a place as any to get going in good reads. I've read Day of Empires by Amy Chu, and loved it. Hopefully I'll find some more great reads here as well :).
Hi All, My name's Rob, and I'm from Ontario Canada.

Hello Rdubz (Rob)....we are glad to have you. I guess we can thank your friend..who is that? If he or she is not a member of The History Book Club, be sure to invite them.
You should find an active military history area and because of your interest you should get to know our Assisting Moderator - Military History - Aussie Rick very well.
We always add the book cover, the author's photo when available and the author's link for any book cited. You can find out how to do all that on a thread called Mechanics of the Board.
Amy Chua
We are thrilled to have you and say a special thank you to your friend.
