Sigrid (sigridw) 771 WPM for War and Peace
This quite surprised me, because I'm not even a native English speaker.
I failed one question though, which is very typical for me: I read fast but I don't remember everything I've read.

People should get extra credit for names like Bolkonskaya
;-)

message 53: by Gordon (new)

Gordon McLeod (mcleodg) | 348 comments 378 words, with all 3 questions answered correctly.

message 54: by Sage (new)

Sage | 2 comments 531 normal speed, 958 speed reading.

message 55: by Phillicia (new)

Phillicia (leeshalot) I got 165 wpm and got 2/3 questions right but that won't stop me from my love of reading. I know I'm a slow reader but I enjoy books. Just fun to see where I stood.

message 56: by Rambler (new)

Rambler (theawkwardrambler) 430 for me. Not bad, could be better.

message 57: by Jim (new)

Jim | 43 comments 214 wpm with all 3 questions answered correctly. Granted this was on the Alice in Wonderland part. Missed all three on the first one and it said don't read so fast the first time

message 58: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 7 comments I am proud of myself -- i came in at 320 WPM and that was with Sword and Laser on in the background. Now to go back and start Tigana!

message 59: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 7 comments 696 wpm. I've been blessed that this is my natural reading speed, no speed reading classes. It plays havoc with the budget keeping me in books. :::smile:::

message 60: by Zach (new)

Zach (soxp_) I got 268 but got all the questions right. And I'm thoroughly envious to anyone able to get anything decent out of an audiobook. I am a TERRIBLE listener. podcasts I can do. maybe because they are talking normal as opposed to reading to you?

message 61: by Aaskatla (new)

Aaskatla | 1 comments 408 words, not bad for a second language reader :D

Charles (candrews) | 60 comments Tom wrote: "I'm not sure about this test. I got 323 WPM. I'm a very slow reader."

I got 149 wpm! Slowest so far, Hurrah! I tend to read with an inner monologue voice, though, so I'm actually speaking the words to myself.

message 63: by Sara (new)

Sara (medusasmirror) | 44 comments I got 599 wpm with 2/3 questions right. I'm thinking that's probably more my 'I'm reading this for class' speed rather than my pleasure reading speed.

message 64: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 701 comments Did it a couple of times, always came in between 270 and 300 wpm, but got the 3 questions right every time too. It says I'm just over the national average (American average I'm going to assume) and since I'm not a native English speaker I don't mind that at all. :)

I can go faster if I speed read, but I made an effort to stick to my leisurely reading speed, which includes backing up a couple of words every now and then to make sure I understood it, English being my third language and all that (though because of all the reading I'm doing lately it's now better than my French).

message 65: by Steve (new)

Steve 204wpm.

message 66: by Neko (new)

Neko 665wpm but I don't agree with what they say in respects of books I could get through. Still an interesting test :)

message 67: by Rambler (new)

Rambler (theawkwardrambler) Tried the other examples, 560 for one and 486 for the last, not bad, average around 450 then, I guess?

message 68: by José R (new)

José R (aznagnev) | 3 comments 491wpm and I'm in my first year of english (as second languaje)

message 69: by Jordan (new)

Jordan | 12 comments Pretty happy with 596 wpm and 3/3 questions correct. I kind of want to share this test with everybody though...

If you read at a normal speed the test is useful.

I was surprised to see 395. I know my husband will be way faster then me. lol

message 71: by Mudassir (new)

Mudassir Chapra | 3 comments 179 words per minute, which is more than I imagined. English is my second language though.

message 72: by Shane (new)

Shane Brogan (brogshan) | 1 comments Seems variable. At first I got 270 wpm, and only one question right. Second time I got 536 wpm and all 3 right.

If you're using this, note that you can click the options in the upper right before you start to choose which book (of the 3), how big the font is, and the number of paragraphs from the book (4 to 15). The number of questions asked depends on how many paragraphs you chose.

message 74: by Kathryn (last edited Jun 13, 2012 11:28PM) (new)

Kathryn Weis | 126 comments 468/min... and then I took it again and got 646...

message 75: by Tae (new)

Tae | 25 comments 678 words per minute according to the tests. I took it a few times to average it out as some of the samples were much easier to answer than others (Alice in Wonderland for example)

message 76: by Steve (new)

Steve Saylor (stevesaylor) This was a really cool test. I got 400 words myself. Always thought I was faster though, hmmm. Maybe it's because I have the text larger on my Kobo eReader so I go through pages faster.

Thanks for the link!

message 77: by Caedy (new)

Caedy Eries (karida) | 21 comments 426 per min for Alice and Wonderland

Which means I can read War and Peace in about 22 hrs.
LoTR in 18 hrs.
The Bible would take me 30 hrs to read from cover to cover at this speed :D

message 78: by Cory Day (new)

Cory Day (cors36) | 14 comments Extending out the number of paragraphs really helps... feels SLIGHTLY more scientific. But really, I read War and Peace this year and it took a lot longer than it should've given the results... I think it really depends how... comfortable? the material is.

message 79: by Caedy (new)

Caedy Eries (karida) | 21 comments I'm inclined to agree with you Cory. If I'm not comfortable with it, I will take longer to read it.

message 80: by Richard (new)

Richard (lordmiles) | 1 comments I received a score of 356 but I only answered 2 out of 3 correct.

message 81: by Kdawg91 (new)

message 84: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette (nerdbridge) | 2 comments 652 wpm with all 3 answered correctly. I'm glad I'm a fast reader so I can read all the books!! Haha.

message 85: by Jane (new)

Jane Higginson | 165 comments I got 332 words per minute which makes me 33% faster than the national average....how come its taken me 23 days to read 366 pages then ?! and i still have about 500 pages to go!!!
