Caz Malpas (cally-mally) | 12 comments Hi everyone, I'm Caz and started the In Death series after finding a box of audio cd's (1-13) buried in my mums attic, they got me hooked and now just listen to them on audio download. I'm currently reading book 27 Salvation in Death and I have to confess it's not one of my favourites but hopefully it will get better.

Welcome, Caz! What a treasure find, the first 13 books.

I think Salvation gets more interesting though it's not on my list of favorites.

Natasha Eiler | 3 comments I have to confess that I haven't read the in death books in order. I had a house fire 7 years ago and lost my huge book collection to not only the fire but mostly to the hoses that put it out. A neighbor's parents had died and left him their property that had a shed in the back with a whole lot of stuff in it that they sold at flea markets. There were hundreds of books and he gave most of them to me. I went through them and a lot of them were books that I wasn't really interested in. I had never read J D Robb but I had read Nora Roberts. I decided to keep the two in death books that were in the group. It took me a few months to get around to them but when I did look out! I read the first one cover to cover in less than a day and I was hooked. I started looking at thrift stores and what not and buying them whenever I found them (which wasn't very often). Two years ago my fiancee bought me a kindle for my birthday and I was very happy to discover that my local library has copies of almost every in death book available to borrow. I am now reading my way through them for the third time. I just can't get enough!

Hi Natasha! Welcome to the group! What an unique way to get introduced to the series. Glad you enjoy them. I definitely recommend reading in order for character introductions & development.

When I got my kindle that was the first thing I did and you are right. While you could read them in whatever order you want, reading them in order helps to understand the characters so much better. It seems like the more times I read them the more I learn about the characters.

That is so true, Natasha. Each book does standalone as far as the murder case goes...but these characters are introduced one by one and most continue growing & interacting throughout the series. Each book builds on the ones that came before. I'm glad you finally experienced reading them in order!

Hi Cherie! So happy Amanda talked you into joining our group. Looking forward to discussing the books with you.

message 1175: by Diane (new)

Diane (dcg4us) I think I have it figured out. Aj from Tasmania is Amanda, who is Cherie from Victoria/Tallangatta's daughter, whose brother lives in Sydney. But who is Cherie's mum? "my mum and i are reading all jdrobbs in death series we are mesmerised by how she finds different characters in each book. my name is cherie bornholm"
Does mum mean something other than mom/mother? I have to know the brother/son's name now too...it will just nag at me until someone tells me. I'm telling you (all you young people), getting old is weird. I just love to hear people with other(than mine)languages speak. Fascinating. Wouldn't you love to hear Roarke? Uh huh ;) {{Swoon}}
Oh, and I am Diane G who was drawn to the name Jonetta because I had a best friend in grade school with that name and spelling and this is the first time in 40+ yrs I have ever seen it not attached to my girl. This Jonetta invited me here and I am finding it difficult to keep the different groups separated. How do people join so many and keep them straight? I have grown so much since joining Goodreads. There is a wonderful world of books out here that I was not seeing. I couldn't be happier! So happy to meet new people - all of you - sometimes I might get a bit shy about discussing books, but only because I am not used to it yet :) Thanks Jonetta <~:)

Diane (dcg4us) A new twist! Let me clarify. Your mom(mum) and your Grandma(mum's mum) are reading the jdrobb In Death series together. Somehow I became confused and thought you (Aj) and your mom(mum) were reading together. Maybe I got that from another comment. Nope. Just my old-timers twisting things up. Very happy to meet you Aj. Three generations! Awesome! Not going to tell me the brothers name are you... ;)

message 1185: by S White (new)

S White | 27 comments Hi all! I'm Shannon and I have read all the In Death books including all the novellas. I started reading Nora Roberts books when I was a teenager I never knew she wrote under another name until I received my first kindle Christmas 2011 and was looking for new books to read. I found Naked in Death and found out that JD Robb was Nora Roberts and just like her other books I was hooked. It took me five months to read all the books, then while I was waiting for the new ones to come out I started over and re-read the series now I can hardly wait until the new one comes out.

Ariel (lamot_amant) | 48 comments I'm Ariel, Dallas groupie since 2002.

I randomly saw Naked in Death in a hospital gift shop and picked it up for kicks. Was going through a really rancid time and was immediately hooked, I've been reading and rereading the series ever since. I mean, who doesn't need a consistent dose of Eve being a badass in their life, right?

Favorite books in the series (so far) : Naked, Holiday, Survivor (I keep wanting more Nixie), Visions, and Concealed.

I don't think it's possible to have a list of favorite characters, I love em all and always want to read more of them.

Anyways, can't wait to join in! :)

SB*needs low angst books* Hey I am Songbyrd from Georgia. A coworker told me I could get audio books from the library since I had a iPod. The in death series was one of her book suggestions. I started out of order. My first book was holiday in death. It was still really good even though I missed out on some of the dynamics and relationships between characters. I went back and got the first audiobook and been a junkie ever since. Matter a fact I told my husband that the next audio book is available right before our anniversary (Valentine's day) and that iTunes card better be one of my gifts. :)

Hey Ariel, I love them all too!! I do have a soft for Morris though but Galahad is definitely one of the best pets in a book I have read. Besides Spock in Tribute or Jaws in the search by Nora Roberts. How can she make a pet have so much personality is amazing lol.

He told me that when I get a new in death book that he can't talk to me for a least 2 days cause I don't hear him and don't respond. He does like the part in celebrity in death where Dallas complains the the squirrels are the army and the pigeons are the air force.

Absolutely agree. Pure happenstance lol but I'm grateful. They actually did a pretty good job of getting them in in order but then I hit the lottery and started working in a bookstore, needless to say most of my paychecks went towards financing my Robb-crack.

Oh definitely, gotta have a spot for Morris reserved. Though I'm a bit in love with Mr. Mira and his perpetually misbuttoned cardigan. He's just too sweet. And yes, Galahad is perfect. Plus, you can't really beat how he entered the series either.

message 1198: by Heather (last edited Jan 26, 2015 11:55AM) (new)

Heather N. Hi! My name is Heather and a co-worker friend of mine loved and owned the entire death series in hardback/paperback. I started at the beginning and borrowed several books from her. After I left that office I continued to read and purchase the books for my kindle. I also read the novella's, but now I only have a few books left to be caught up. I've kind of been slowing my reading of these books a bit because I hate the fact I will have to start waiting to read more! I am currently reading Celebrity in Death. I really love this series and glad I found this group.
