Martha (msereads) | 2 comments Hi all - I'm Martha (MarthaE at Reviews by Martha's Bookshelf). I have set the 'In Death' series up as a challenge for me to read or listen to them all. I just finished Midnight in Death (7.5) so I have a long way to go.
It's nice to share with others who like similar reading.

Judy (bigfootgal) | 166 comments Hi, I'm Judy. It seems I've been reading In Death forever and I wait eagerly for each new release. I found Naked in Death on an audible.com "first in a series" sale and have never looked back. I love to hold the books and especially see the Gaelic words, but even more, I enjoy hearing the voices. (I do mean the ones in the books - not just in my head.) As others have said, Susan Erickson is truly the voice of the In Death series.

message 111: by Faith (new)

Faith (jadethorne) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Faith. I haven't read any of JDRobb's books, but have had them highly (HIGHLY) recommended to me. Thing is, I'm a little OCD when it comes to book series, and refuse to start a series until I have everything (unless they're still writing, like Kim Harrison or Charlaine Harris, which makes me crazy!!) I don't yet have an e-reader, although I hope to pick one up soon - are the books cheaper that way or in paperback? And where would I start collecting them (it would be a Gift if I found them all at once, if I could afford them)..... Any advice or suggestions?

message 112: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Welcome, Faith! We're happy you're ready to start the series but J. D. Robb isn't finished with it and has no plans to end it in the near future. Her current track record is two books a year.

I'm an ebook reader and once the books have been released for a year or longer, the price equals the paperback price. However, you may be able to get used paperbacks cheaper (anyone want to weigh in?). Also, the library is a great resource normally, depending on your location, for both formats.

Good luck amassing the books! Use our group book list as a resource for keeping track.

message 113: by Faith (new)

Faith (jadethorne) | 2 comments Great! Thanks very much, and thank you Jonetta! I'm hoping to find the E-reader at auction ( just gotta control myself, right?) I also have a friend who is willing to "loan" me the first several books - that's possible, right? I don't know too much about e-readers, except that if you buy one at auction (and get lucky) you're supposed to end up saving money (and lots of space) buy not having to collect stacks of paperbacks.

Is there a place I can to hear where the the books are in order? Or is one of those things that's kinda obvious? (I DO have that friend, I'm sure she could guild me if all else fails)

Thanks so much for your quick response, Jonetta (pretty name, too), it's appreciated ;-)

Take care, Faith

Astha Kapoor (faithfullyyours) Hi!! My real name is Astha, but I like to be called by my cybername "Faith" (That is what my Hindi name means)... I started reading novels for adults with Nora Roberts, and quickly graduated to the In Death series. I am loving every minute of being obsessed with it.

I just read Delusion in Death, and it was awesome.

message 121: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary (rsolvang) Hello. I'm Rosemary.
Jonetta already welcomed me to the group, but I can't recall if I actually introduced myself or simply sent a message to Jonetta. If I've done so already, I apologize for doing so again.

I just found "goodreads" a few weeks ago and haven't quite uncovered all the ways to interact with it.

When I saw a "J.D. Robb" group, I knew it was a good place to start. I first discovered the "In Death" series about 3 years ago when I found the first nine books, in audio, abridged format, at a library book sale. At first I wasn't sure, but by book nine I was hooked and then I bought the unabridged versions. I quickly caught up, so much so that I've listened to the entire series at least three times. I've been staying current, as new titles have been released. I have the next one already on "pre-order".

My favorite time to listen is in the evening; my cat and I settle down, I crochet, and we listen to the books.

I'm looking forward to participating in discussions.

Thank you. R.

I know I welcomed you but we didn't talk about your history with this series. If you look at some of the older posts and the polls, you'll see you're not alone in rereading or re-listening to this series. When I read your crocheting while listening with your cat, I actually could see the image:)

Thanks for already being so active in the group.

message 131: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (lilmaggiebeth) Hi, my name is Barbara. A friend of mine gave me the first two books in the series about 13 years ago. I tried reading the first one but I wasn't really into the futuristic aspect of the storyline so I put it down. Fast forward to this past summer I was looking fot something to listen to as I am now a huge audio book fan, I came upon Naked in Death again and thought "Why not?" I fell in love with the series and I think alot of it had to do with the reader Susan Ericson. I am currently up to reading Purity in Death having read all previous books. Still love the series, but has anyone who has listened to the audio versions noticed the change in voice characterization of Peabody, McNabb, & Whitney? I really like Ms. Ericson's vocal characterization of these chararacters and in the last couple of audio versions there has been a markedly different characterization. I really like the first versions way better...they have much more depth. In the current story it is almost difficult to differentiate between the voices of Dallas and Peabody. Any thoughts or comments on this??

message 132: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Welcome, Barbara! I don't listen to the audiobooks in this series but have heard from members here that the Seduction in Death audiobook may have been the first one recorded by Ericson and was strange, especially with Peabody.

Can any of our members listening to the series comment?

message 133: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (lilmaggiebeth) Yes, I believe that was the first book I listened to that had the different voices. You may be right as I went back and did a little investigating and that particular book, Seductin in Death, has a much earlier copyright date than some of the others I have listened to since starting this series.

message 134: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Yes, Seduction was actually the first audiobook Susan Ericksen recorded, and the voices are quite a bit different. Reunion's a bit different, too, but after that, they're back to normal. So just hang on and they'll get better!

Oh, Purity in Death actually has the less desired voices as well but thanks for letting me know Sara! I was wondering how many more I would have to listen to before it would get to the voices I preferred. Maybe Portrait in Death will be back to normal which is the next one in the series. I really hope so!

Vera M. | 446 comments I was visiting with my mother-in-law and we were talking about books and favorite authors. Both of us are avid readers. I had never heard of the in death series. I had read some Nora Roberts books and wasn't sure I would like this series. She loaned me the first book in the series and I have really enjoyed this series of books. They have great mystery, romance, and I love the depth of the characters and the banter.

message 138: by Wendi (new)

Wendi | 12 comments Hi! My name is Wendi. My intro to In Death was at work. I have always enjoyed Nora Robert books. When I start a new job 3 yrs ago, while talking with a new co-worker about what we were each reading. She was reading one of the In Death books. She told me about how awesome the characters are and the story lines are and how big the series is. I love series books because you continue to see how everyone is doing. So I picked up the combo set of the first two books I. The series and by the end of the second book I was hooked

Jeanne (jeanneferron) | 2 comments Hello, I started reading JD Robb's In Death Series about a year ago. I am about half-way through the series and must say I love it! They are really edgy and really make you think while reading. I love trying to guess who the murderer is. Awesome series...Dallas Rocks!

Welcome, Jeanne! Glad you're loving this series as do so many of us here. Don't rush trying to catch up as waiting isn't fun. I had to re-read it two times to console myself.

Enjoy!

Joey | 5 comments I have been a Nora Roberts fan since she started writing. When I dicovered she was also J.D. Robb I bought the first book, and have been hooked since. I love the characters, and the great change in plots while bringing in the regulars. This is new for me, because I have never liked series. But Eve is too much fun not to continue. And Roark....well what is there to say? And the supporting cast are wonderful.
