Rae | 140 comments Hi. I'm Rae. I started reading the In Death series about 2 years ago, and currently have just about all the books. I started reading them purely by accident. I usually read horror(king or Koontz) and was at my clients house( I do in home Care for the elderly) and she has several books. I picked up Creation In Death and was instantly hooked. I'm not a. "romance" reader by any means. These are the first romance books I have ever read. Love them.

Rae | 140 comments Thanks. Have been rereading them and I was trying to find the one wwhere Eve is running after a suspect and he throws a baby in the air and Eve catches baby. Scene is caught on video. Not sure which book this is from. Can you help?. Thanks again

Rae, that was Calculated in Death.

FYI, you should use Questions About All Things in Death to post any other questions you might have about the books.

Gary Sundell | 89 comments OK Kirsten I'm here, but looks like I'm definitely in the minority here on at least 2 counts. One, I'm male. Two, I haven't read the whole series as I'm reading Glory in Death currently which is the second In Death Book I have read. Funny it seems Naked in Death was the first one I read. Grabbed the first 4 when they were on sale on the Nook a while back. I read through the whole introduce yourself thread and saw maybe 3 or 4 other guys. OK Roarke does nothing for me, Eve on the other hand.....
I'm a bankruptcy and divorce lawyer so maybe my perspective is skewed a bit.

Gary, trust me, we are glad to have you here! You may be in the minority gender wise but we all share a common love for the series:) And, there are many first-time readers of the series.

Just know you're welcome and I, too, am a big Eve fan...well, maybe not in the same way as you, but still:)

Thanks for the welcome. I have been known to dip into other chick lit series at times, do not look at my Nook's large number of books from Gemma Halliday Publishing, darn her 99 cent sales. :)
I like funny mystery books and her imprint seems to specialize in them. All kidding aside, I do not see much difference in reading an In Death book to reading say a Wonder Woman or Supergirl comic book. The first SF books I read consistently were by Andre Norton aka Alice Mary Norton so Nora Roberts aka JD Robb is in good company.

LOL - Welcome Gary.

I joined this group early on in the series also. I am now starting my second round. It's a great group for In Death book lovers.

Gary Sundell | 89 comments I have a huge TBR so it will take me a while to get through the series. I'm working my way through the Complete Sherlock Holmes, The Wheel of Time Series and several other huge series like Mary Daheim's Bed and Breakfast series and her Emma Lord series while staying caught up on the Danger Cove books and dozens of others. Thank goodness for the portability of my Nook.

I believe I did 2 a month on the In Death - about 2 years to get through it the first time. I'm doing 1 a month on the re-read and so that will keep me busy a long time lol.

I love Sherlock Holmes. Never did a complete read straight through. I should put that on my to-do list.

I gave up on the Wheel of Time after about the 4th book.

I re-read 3 of The Wheel of Time books last year. I think I bogged down in book 5 in my HC editions many years ago. Now that the series is complete I have resolved to read it all the way through. Besides I really like Brandon Sanderson's writing and he helped complete the series after Robert Jordan's death.

I had forgotten that there was another author.

This is back in the dead-tree book day only, I was buying them as they first came out - having to wait for each one. I don't remember how many I got through but at some point the characters were doing stupid things and I remember thinking none of them deserved to live and so I never bought another one after that. I suppose I should try them again and see what I think after so many years.

Hi Gary! Welcome to the group. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the In Death books as you progress through the series. (as well as other books) The current In Death buddy read of the series is now reading book 4 - we're doing one a month. There are both new & re-readers joining the discussion. Feel free to pop in any time as you read the books.

message 1525: by Gary (new)

Gary Sundell | 89 comments Thanks Sandra I currently only have books 1-4 and Midnight In Death which is book 7.5 according to the GR list. I am a little over 1/3 of the way through book 2. Now if only there was another sale on the In Death series for the Nook...

message 1526: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Books 1-4 is a good start, Gary. I have always considered them to be the "foundation" of the series. You get a good introduction to the main characters and meet a few of the secondary players whose roles will grown throughout the rest of the books. Character/relationship development is huge throughout the series with the added bonus of great new side characters joining in all along the way. You mentioned humor in mysteries and I love that too...as this series progresses, you find more & more of the funny, snarky banter occurring between some of the characters. Eve & Peabody are especially good at making me laugh time & time again as their partnership & friendship grows.

Maggie | 1576 comments Hi Gary, welcome!! This is a great group to belong to,I think you'll have fun here! Have you read any of the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross; they are laugh out loud till you cry, cozy mysteries. The Hamish Macbeth series by M.C. Beaton are also mysteries with a bit of humor tossed in. Hope you enjoy the rest of the ID series as much as the rest us!!

I have read the first Hamish Macbeth within the past year. I'll check out the other series. If you like funny try Leslie Langtry's Merry Wrath series. It is only 3 novels and a short story so far.

I have the first four in a Nook boxed set ready to read, and actually read a few pages into book 1. If you liked those you will like Merry Wrath.

Jeanine Tucker | 196 comments Hi, I'm Jeanine. A co-worker and good friend introduced me to the In Death series audiobooks last year in May or June and by the end of the summer I had read all of the books, and had listened to some of them. Since then I've re-read many of them and now I'm getting other friends hooked on the series. I have an hour commute each way to work and can hardly wait to get in the car so I can listen to the amazing narrator, Susan Erickson, narrate these stories.

Hi and welcome, Sarah! Your joining is timely as we've just started a reread of the series (on book #4).

Be sure to check out the book list which shows the reading order. You'll find most here believe this series is best served up by reading the stories in order. That yields the best reading experience given the progressive character development.

Enjoy!
