Welcome Joey! You're right...what else can you say about Roarke? We hope you have fun here.

Enjoy!

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments Welcome Joey. I envy Eve so much, Roarke is soooo sexy and....

Mo | 23 comments Read a Nora Roberts years ago and HATED it was not interested in anything by her but reading some discussions on GR forums decided to give J. D. ROBB a chance - only 10% in to the first in the series and am really liking the writing ... will keep you updated. I am Irish so will be interested to see how Roarke is portrayed ... was not impressed with her portrayal of some Irish characters as NR!

Welcome to the group, Mo! I hope it works out for you and that you enjoy the series as much as many of us here.

message 155: by Mo (new)

Mo | 23 comments Hopefully I will but then when I see how many books are in the series I am thinking this is going to break the bank!!!! Maybe Santa will send me some Amazon vouchers ....

Lol! It is an investment but if you read paperbacks, used bookstores will be your new best friends.

Mo | 23 comments I am a kindle addict ...... and not sure if any of hers are lendable!

I don't know as her publisher is playing hardball with the eBooks and is currently in litigation with the U. S. Department of Justice over price fixing for digital books, particularly with Amazon. The pricing is ridiculous for the new books, which is why I wait until they lower it. Let us know if you determine if they are.

message 159: by Mo (new)

Mo | 23 comments Finished Naked in Death - yep I think we have another addict here... starting the second one soon.

I can't say I'm surprised but I'm glad you had a different experience than you did with Nora. Out of curiosity, what Nora book did you read?

Irish Hearts - think it was her first book and I am Irish so maybe I was a bit sensitive!!

Oh, you should read some of her later material. This book was written back when she was with Silhouette and writing the formulaic stuff. She's got some AMAZING stories from when she was off on her own, such as The Gallaghers of Ardmore series (also based in Ireland) and the Chesapeake Saga series. Another favorite is the Three Sisters Island series.

I discovered Nora after reading this series and had others who enjoyed the In Death books make recommendations. That early stuff is hit or miss.

Well, if I think her writing as J.D. ROBB is good I should give some of the later Nora Roberts stuff a chance.

IMO (others may differ), she seemed to hit her stride in the mid 1990's through 2009. Reviews for that period seem to be pretty consistent. Montana Sky was the first standalone book I read by Nora and it continues to be my favorite after having read about 50 or more of her books.

I'd give it another shot before writing her off. There's a Nora Roberts group on Goodreads that is pretty helpful. If you're interested in checking it out, I can get you the link if you can't find it through the normal search.

Thanks Jonetta, will check it out.

Vera M. | 446 comments I know my public library offers ebooks for lending that can be read through the kindle. It is worth checking out your local library if they do the same! Mine does offer the in death series, usually end up on a wait list for them but worth the wait to borrow for ereading!

message 167: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
The publisher stopped allowing libraries to carry their eBooks beginning in 2012. Your library shouldn't have any of the titles released by J. D. Robb or Nora Roberts this year. I hope this is resolved in 2013.

message 168: by Vera (new)

Vera M. | 446 comments Hmm strange my library does have them and they don't seem to be blocked from checking out... Had they allowed this to happen recently maybe? I know the first time I saw her ebooks on the library were about a month ago. Either that or my library gonna be in trouble and I won't be seeing Robb books in there for a long time. :(

message 169: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
No, it's just those released in 2012. That would be Celebrity in Death and Delusion in Death.

message 170: by Megan (new)

Megan (thebookhunter) | 15 comments Hi there! I am new to this group but I have read all the In Death series a few times. And when I say 'ead' I mean listened to the audio (I have not actually read any of them) I love the narroator, Susan Erikson, I think she does a great job and every time I hear her talk for Roarke the first time in a book a always smile....I just freaking LOVE it!

Anyway, I love the series and chatting about it so I am very happy to have found this group!

Big welcome, Megan! There are many members here who listen to the series and rave about the narrator. I have also read the series three times and we are not alone here.

message 172: by Candy (new)

Candy (heartlessone) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Candy. I picked up my first JD Robb book close to 10 years ago now (wow I hadn't realized it was that long!) I had read all of Nora Roberts and was looking for something similar to hers, but the JD Robb books were a pleasant surprise. I've been reading along ever since.

Candy, my apologies for the late welcome! I'm just returning from a busy holiday.

Wow! You're one of the few here that started the series some time ago. Welcome to this group and I hope you'll join in on the discussions. We'd love to hear from you.

message 175: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (longdoglover) | 5 comments Hi everyone. I have read every JD Robb book from the very beginning. I wish sometimes that she focused more on the personalities now rather than so much case load... i loved the first 8 or 9 books, but the last 3 have been not my fav's. Of course this doesn't mean i will stop reading them!

Welcome, Brenda! I know exactly what you mean. You should check out the discussion, "Where do you see the series going from here" where we talk about the storylines we wish J. D. Robb would write.

Nina (msralways) | 53 comments Hey guys, I just started reading J.D Robb two weeks ago and I'm already in book #15 if you count the novellas and the only thing I can say is that I'm totally in love right now with this characters and with the way Nora Roberts writes. I live in Brazil and her books as NR are pretty famous, but I didn't know she wrote under another pen name and you GR people showed me the way. \o/

Enjoy the group!

message 179: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments @Mo. I have all of mine on my Kindle. You can get a couple of them pretty cheap. I have not found any in the lending library though. Happy reading

message 180: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments @jonetta, did they stop the ebooks too? I know they stopped the audiobooks.

message 181: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
They stopped EVERYTHING!!! Latest news is that they are in a pilot with two New York libraries. But, for now, still no ebooks or audiobooks for this series at the library for any of the books released after 1/1/2012.

message 182: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Wow, I didn't realize it was ebooks too. I know Brilliance Audio announced they have suspended all of their audiobooks from libraries Sounds like a financial thing to me.

message 183: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Maybe for Brilliance but not for the eBooks. I talked about this in another topic. For Penguin, the claim was security. Pirates don't need libraries. It really boiled down to their attempt to steeply increase the price of eBooks and shut down access to digital formats outside of retail. It will be interesting to see the impact this decision had on their eBook sales. I've boycotted them (eBook purchases) in 2012.

message 184: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I probably would have too if I'd known. Too late now that I purchased all of the In Death books in 2012 lol

message 185: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
The old ones are reasonably priced. I just refuse to pay more than $9.99 for an eBook and Penguin is charging $14.99!!!

message 186: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Oh, through amazon they are mostly $7.99. My issue is they charge that price for the smaller novella books too.

message 187: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
No, I mean the newly released books are initially priced at $14.99. Once the book has been on the shelf for about six months, the price drops. After about a year, most are then at $7.99 or lower.

The best way to deal with the novellas if you're starting the series is to get the bundled novellas (3 books for 7.99).

message 188: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Oh I get it. I did spend a lot for NYTD and Delusion But the rest I bought when they were pretty old. I may end up listening to Calculated since I have credits and would only pay about $9 for it. If it stays higher on Amazon for long. I will be too impatient to wait until July for it. And I agree, The ebooks should not cost the same as a print book. Most of the novellas I got when I didn't understand what they were. I did get Remember When instead of just the novella. It is too bad I didn't find this group earlier on.

LeiCa | 761 comments Hi I'm Leis. I fell in love with Eve and Roarke while reading 'Ceremony in Death' around 2 years ago. I scrambled around looking for all the books i missed and have since then read naked to delusion. I am now waiting for a copy of 'Calculated' but i don't think it's available in the Philippines yet :(

I joined Goodreads last month and I'm still learning my way around this site. I'm glad to have found this group ... talking about these books makes the waiting for the new one tolerable <3

Danielle L. (elemental1) | 3 comments Discovered Naked in Death and Glory in Death on a back shelf in a library back in 1997. At the time, I didn't realize they were written by Nora Roberts (I'm a fan.) I took them out because I liked the covers and the back summary. Fell in love with Eve and Roarke and have been following ever since. I've kept reading because I like the way the other characters have been developed along with Eve. Love Peabody and Dr. Mira.

Enjoy!

Oh, that's unfortunate. But! When she's done, have her re-read it in order. A number of our members have done that and acknowledged it made a difference.

Robbie Askew-cooper | 2 comments Hi, I'm Robbie, as a fan of Nora Roberts, I happen upon reading the In Death series while at the library. I was actually looking for her newest romance novel, when the name J.D. Robb caught my eye. Being an avid reader, I never want a good book to end. I enjoy reading romance and mysteries books,so you could imagine my delight. I became enthralled in the characters of Dallas and Roarke right from the start. I'm currently reading Visions in Death.
