Welcome to the group, Robbie! How perfect that you discovered this series in the library, just as it should be.

Enjoy the group and we hope you'll participate in our discussions.

(btw, Visions in Death is one of the really good ones, IMHO)

Gina | 40 comments Hi, I am married and have one son. I started reading J.D. Robb's In Death series by accident. I was looking for a new mystery to read, and I saw Seduction in Death in the library. It was good. After that, I started from book 1 and the rest is history. I love the In Death Series. I am waiting to read J.D.'s latest book Calculated in Death, and I'm currently reading Treachery in Death.

Welcome, Gina! I'm so glad you only read one book out of order before you started from the beginning:)

Enjoy the group!

jI was at work, a snowy day, no customers, so I reached for a booklet in the work library. It was book 2 of a trilogy, but desperate times call for desperate measures. It was by Nora Roberts, an. author I had heard of, but had never read. I was hooked! What was the first and last books about? One thing lead to more and upon research found something more to my liking : JD Robb. I craved more! I now have the whole series, and I don't think I've put them down yet. You see, every time a new book comes out, I start from the first book and read the whole series through!

Thanks for joining, Cassandra! Wow...how many times have you reread the series? I hope you'll participate in our polls, which you can access from the group home page or you can use the link below.

Welcome!

message 206: by [deleted user] (new)

Than you Jonetta. I enjoyed the polls. I have re-read the series about 40 times. And you know, there's always something new that hits me differently. All of the characters are like old friends.

Cassandra, I think you hold the record in this group for rereads! Any challengers?

message 208: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I've read them a lot, but no. My favorites only about 6 or 7 times, probably.

message 209: by Christina (new)

Christina Williams | 4 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Christina and started off with the very first novel, Naked in Death, at the recommendation from a friend. I became a HUGE addict! I've read them all and continue to collect! :-)

Welcome, Christina! Your friend was certainly looking out for you. We're glad to have you here.

Tiffany (tiffanyfaber) | 5 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Tiffany and I have been reading In Death since 2006. I picked up Betrayal in Death at the store, not knowing it was part of a series. I loved it, and then went back and started from the beginning. I have read them all a few times, and i am impatiently waiting for next week!!! i will be at the bookstore on my lunch break to get Calculated in Death. This is by far my favorite series ever, so excited to have found this group :)

message 212: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Hi, Tiffany! We're glad you found us, too. It's interesting how many members discovered the series by reading a book other than the first and then started from the beginning.

I hope you enjoy the group and jump into the discussions.

Temple (templecameron) | 16 comments My name is Temple and I just found GoodReads and just found this group. This will be a first for me. However, I found J D Robb in the mid 90s. A neighbor shared she was Nora Roberts. At the time she had written at least 10 of the series (maybe 14). My husband and I went to the beach for two weeks and I read every one of them in order. I was hooked from book one and wait impatiently for each one. I have everyone of them in hardback proudly displayed (I designed bookcases for my home so I could display all my books). I am "calculating" how much longer I have to wait.

Welcome, Temple! Are you saying Nora Roberts was your neighbor?

message 215: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabrielle23) | 314 comments Hi My name is Gabrielle. I have read (several times) all of J. D. Robb's books except for the last one.

I just joined goodreads, and am happy to find this group

Welcome, Gabrielle! I'm glad you, too, were able to find us. I'm still in awe of how many of us have reread the series.

message 217: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabrielle23) | 314 comments I think I'm lucky that i only discovered Roarke last year through a friend's recommendation. So i was able to read the series from book 1 and really enjoyed uninterrupted reading... until now :(

message 221: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Hi, new to the group, but I've been reading In Death since 1995 or 1996. Almost the beginning. And for a while, I reread the entire series every time a new one came out. But after about 20 times, I slowed down. Now I pick and choose what I want to reread.

I was motivated to join this group because Calculated was just downloaded to my Kindle. Can't wait to start reading in the morning. It's 2 a.m. and I'm on my way to bed. Can't allow myself to start it tonight or I'll never get to sleep.

message 222: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Welcome, Betsy! Again, you're one of those rare people who started this series close to when it began. 20 rereads....you and another member, Cassandra, are in the same league (she's reread about 40 times).

Enjoy the group! Let us know what you think of Calculated In Death.

message 223: by Mary (Biblophile) (new)

Mary (Biblophile) Hi, I also started the series way back when it first began. However, I still a few to catch up on as too many books have landed on my TBR pile since trading sites became available. I'm trying to catch up now.

Mary

Glad you decided to join us.

message 225: by Gelis (new)

Gelis | 2 comments Hi I am Gelis, and i am a Book addict. My First Book by Nora Roberts was her actual First. I think she has a talent for characterization that shines in every book.
About the JD Robb series, I like that the cases are so different!

message 226: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Welcome, Gelis! You're obviously a long time fan of Nora's, including her entire body of work. I so agree with you about her characterization skills. It's what sets her apart from her peers.

message 227: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Heflin | 2 comments I have read every book so far! Just finished Delusion in Death, one of my favorites! On a humorous note, (I am a tutor for high school and college kids) I just helped an MBA student with a major marketing project. We "designed and marketed" an Auto Chef! 45 pages of project produced an A and the professor absolutely loved the idea! I had to admit I stole the idea from J.D. Robb!

message 228: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I love that! Now you just have to help that student manufacture it.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Kelly!!!! How did it work????

message 231: by Sara (new)

Sara (_broadbent) Hiya. Like most people seem to have, I started with a random from the library, Origins in my case then went back and started at the beginning. That must have been back in 2006 as I remember the long long waiting for Born in Death to come out. (I don't remember the dates, I just checked haha) I haven't read the latest 2 though they are now on order.
Quiet new to Goodreads, love it and kicking myself a bit for not having found it long before...

message 234: by Serena (new)

Serena | 2 comments Hi. I discovered JD Robb while reading Nora Roberts's Remember When around 2007. I immediately fell in love with Eve and Roarke and went in search of more. Other than Remember When, I actually read all the books in order in about 2 years and just finished Calculated in Death. I love, love, LOVE, these books!

Welcome, Serena! I guess it worked to create that crossover book as it led you to this series. We're glad you joined and hope to see you in discussions.

message 236: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 127 comments Hi fellow fans. I started "In Death" from the beginning a few years ago. I liked how I got into it -- "Naked In Death" was recommended through my library as an audio book download, which I was into at the time, so decided to give it a try. That's all it took! Especially not just reading Roarke, but "hearing" the Irish accent from the beginning, well I just fell in love and have been envious of Eve ever since. :-)

Welcome, Elizabeth! Another audiobook listener...we have quite a few in our membership. And, kudos to your library for a great recommendation.

message 238: by [deleted user] (new)

I have yet to listen to an audiobook. But like others, I do enjoy curling up with my sleeping cat, a glass of wine - and for now, a quiet fire warming us up. I guess because I like listening to music softly playing in the background. But one of these days I think I'd like to try it.
Welcome newbies!

message 239: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I like that I can switch back a d forth between audio.com and my kindle. So I read some but can listen in the car or at work.

message 240: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 127 comments I love to read-read, and have aquired copies of the entire series in book form. The audio versions are just relaxing for me to listen to every once in a while.

Judy Hall (goodreadscomjudy_hall) | 5 comments Hi all. My name is Judy and I've been reading the In Death books since about 2000. They are my soap opera truthfully. I love the characters and can't wait to see what is happening in each book. Which means Nora Roberts did her job since I remember her saying many years ago that one of the reasons she got into the In Death series is so that she cold see what happened next with a couple.

Karen Cox | 4 comments Hi all. I am Karen and began reading the in death series in 2009 , I believe. I have started a complete re rear in order and find some fascinating inconsistencies. The first glaring one is the name of our chief ME. And yes I say "our" because I am so engrossed in this series that I feel like I know these characters

message 244: by Karen (new)

Karen Cox | 4 comments Well I blew that correction!! Sorry to post without finishing. I have a new iPad and am not quite proficient with it yet!
In the early books, the chief ME is known as MORSE and from what I can see it is the same person in description just name evolved to Morris as his character developed and he became a more regular character. I am starting to keep a mental list of some others as I continue my re read. I can't wait to see what some of this groups discussions are on! Looking forward to it.

message 245: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Welcome, Karen! Glad you've joined the group.

The M. E.'s name was always Li Morris. Inexplicably, he was mistakenly called Morse in two books, Witness in Death and Judgment in Death, before reverting back to his original name.

You'll find many of us here that feel these characters are "ours" as you put it:) Please check out the Fun and Games section to put your knowledge of the series to test!

Thanks for pointing that out Karen! I'd forgotten about that, but do remember it bugging me. :-) There have been a few little inconsistencies in the series I've noticed as well, but obviously forget about them just as quickly, since like you, I become so engrossed in "our" characters!

message 247: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1023) Hi everyone! I can't believe it took me so long to find this group! I have been reading the In Death series for a number of years now. I stumbled onto it when I was stuck at B&N waiting for a student to tutor. He was late, I was bored, and it was on the bargain book shelf. Perfect. Well, that one book had me hooked and I immediately went to the beginning and read through the series. Since then I have read and reread a number of the books. Looking forward to chatting with all of you.
