Welcome, Connie! So, you found your way to J. D. Robb through Nora. I found Nora via J. D. Robb. We're both happy:) This would probably be a good poll question.

Enjoy the group and join in on the discussions when you can.

Trisha | 4 comments Hello. I'm Trish and am an "In Death" addict. :-) I started this series many, many years ago when it first came out and fell in love with how rich the characters were developed. I, like some others, would re-read the entire series when each new book came out. I just love how the characters have developed over time. I will have to admit that one of the reasons I quit re-reading the series is that I've grown to love the older versions of Eve so prefer to read the more recent books now. Periodically, I do still like to read the early books. It is so interesting to see how far Eve has come.

I had read a few NR books years and years ago but for some reason, never really got into them. I was so disappointed when "Remember When" was announced to be a cross over book. Then I read it and decided it was time to read NR again as well. :-) JDR is still my favorite. Although I haven't purchased all of the electronic versions of the earlier books, this is one of the few authors who I've purchased multiple versions (electronic as well as paper/hardback) of the same book.

Welcome, Trish! You're one of the few who were fortunate to start the series when first released. I'm also amazed at how Eve has evolved.
My sister-in-law has also gotten the ebook versions in addition to the paperbacks...isn't this normal?:)

message 254: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 4 comments It's normal for me but I'm told I'm crazy to do so. LOL! I always bought the hardcover the day it came out (was bummed when they went to hc rather than paperback) and really struggled when I got a kindle. I prefer reading on the kindle now but since I had the whole series in paper, wanted to keep buying paper to keep up the series. I did that for about three books (now you see why I was told I was crazy :-) ) but have finally settled on just keeping the electronic versions.

Well, you're now in a group where you're considered VERY normal:)

message 256: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Lol. I have some in paper and the whole series on my Kindle and Audible. I think I will repeat what Jonetta told me when I joined this group...obsession is normal around here.

Aah, you remembered!

I must confess...when I got my iPad, I couldn't load my In Death ebooks that I purchased on my Sony Reader earlier that year (35 books at the time). Sooooo, I ended up repurchasing my favorites so I could reread them in the Kindle and B&N apps. That is, until my fabulous brother-in-law introduced me to an app that accepted Adobe Digital Editions' authenticated purchases.

message 258: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I definitely remember. It made me feel normal about my obsession lol. BTW Jonetta, still waiting for a response in Finish the Quote.

Michelle | 2653 comments Hi!
Im Michelle. I got hooked reading In Death after reading Remember When. Then started the struggle to find the series in sequence in the library because the books were always on hold for someone!!!!!! Eventually gave up on that and just started buying the books. I just finished Calculated in death

I think for the most part what drew me to the series was to see this tough as nails detective being blindsided by this charming and suave Irish man with the gorgeous eyes ! Who wouldn't fall for a guy that can give you good coffee by the truck load! I feel like I can talk for hours about everyone and everything so I'll just say I love, love, love theses books and can't really pick a favourite as they are all a part of the whole .
Be gentle and kind with me. This is the first time I've joined a group.

Welcome, Michelle! We will always be gentle and kind to all who come here with a love for this series, no matter what your opinions:). It's funny how most of us share your point of view about needing to discuss these characters and stories.

I hope you have fun here!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I actually don't drink coffee, but there are about 4 million OTHER reasons I'd go for Roarke, so... ;) Welcome!!!

message 262: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 4 comments So glad to hear that I can now be considered normal. :-D I have gotten so busy lately that I haven't been doing a lot of re-reads. Finding this group is just what I needed to get back into re-reading the series. Love it! :-)

message 263: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (wynchs) | 19 comments Hi I was a big fan of Nora Roberts books especially her trilogies and the Quinn quartet. However I tend to get obsessive over a series and avoided the In Death series for such a long time. I read the story from Remember When and I had to start reading the series. I loved it so much. It was pretty frustrating as I was using the library and read the books out of order but now with my Kindle I have all the books :-) love the series! I especially love Roarke as he is from Ireland like me! :-)

I understand completely, Trish. I have done exactly the same thing until recently. I had to buy the hardcovers even though I prefer listening to the audio version. I have finally managed to let go and not buy the last couple of hardcovers.

Sarah (wynchs) | 19 comments Jonetta wrote: "Welcome, Sarah! Now that you have all of the books, do you plan to reread in order?"

I have re-read the series so many times that I couldn't possibly count the number of times I have read them all. When I am waiting for a book from a series to coem out I always go to any of the In Death books to help me get a book fix.
Although 1 book I have not been able to bring myself to re-read is New York to Dallas. I cried so much at that book I really need to gear myself up for it again.

message 267: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
That is a tough book, Sarah. I'm not sure I'll ever reread it either.

message 268: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (wynchs) | 19 comments It was really hard especially in the last few chapters. (don't want to spoil it for anyone) it was pretty gut wrenching and the part with Galahad was brilliant. My favourite book has to be Treachery in Death the with the anti-Eve character.

message 269: by MostlyDelores (new)

MostlyDelores Hello!
I held on to a paperback copy of Glory In Death, without reading it, for YEARS because I didn't have the first book. I kept watching the series get longer and longer, which made it even more important that I start from the beginning (I know). Anyway, between the library and the used book store I gathered up as many as I could and blasted through them. Creation In Death was the newest one at that point. I've read the entire series a few times and some individual books more than others. My favorites are Reunion, Visions, and Treachery.

Lisa Hi all
Well I am a late comer to this series I only started last week at book 1 and am hooked. I look forward to discussing them with you all. I am working my way through the series in order.

message 272: by Channelle (new)

Channelle Hi all! I'm Channelle. This is a author and series my mom has been talking about for years, I never understood the love she had for the character Eve Dallas. Shortly before the holidays I read Fantasy in Death... And was hooked. I got a Kindle and downloaded the entire series. I'm currently up to book 15 and I'm in love with these characters as much as my mom is.

message 273: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Welcome Lisa and Channelle!! I envy both of you... reading through for the first time!

Channelle—my mom introduced me to the books also! I remember her talking about the books for a long time (probably since it was leaked that J.D. Robb was Nora Roberts... when was that? I want to say I was still in high school!), but she was always saying how the books had a lot of gory dead people and were pretty scary, and she didn't read them at night. And if you knew me at all, you'd know that that's exactly the kind of thing I avoid! I used to think, "Then why the heck are you reading them, you crazy woman!??!?!?" But then I needed a book to fill some weird requirement for a book challenge, so I tried the first one... And I was hooked!

I'm also happy to hear that you liked Fantasy in Death! It's not really a favorite around these parts, but I LOVED that one!!! :)

message 274: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Welcome from me as well. I only found this series last summer and became so addicted I have read them all twice and a couple more than (except Calculated). I am in the group that didn't care for the main plot in Fantasy...but like all of the books in my least favorite column, I loved the sub-plot...

Welcome, Channelle! If you loved Fantasy, you're going to have a great time with the rest of this series. If you had to start with a book out of order, that's a good one as it doesn't reveal too much that you'll now be discovering.

Glad to have you here!

message 276: by Mo (new)

Mo (mcr2020) Hi all, I'm Mo!

A friend mentioned the series to me a few years ago. I only just got around to reading Naked in Death and now I'm hooked. Just started Loyalty in Death. I've been lucky to find ebooks from my library in addition to some of the audiobooks. I love Roarke and Eve. Somerset, Peabody and McNab are also amusing.

This is filling my Stephanie Plum void nicely;)

I have now read all the books in order and I would say my favourite is Conspiracy In Death as I keep reading it between the new releases.

Right, now I'm behind with my other authors. What's sad or happy, depending on how you look at it, is hers is not the only series I got caught up in. I am drowning in a sea of books. Lol

I like it that it can be read as a stand alone but I was so addicted to the characters that I had to go back and read them in order.

Welcome, Maria! You started with one of my top five favorites in the series but I'll bet it read differently after you started from the beginning.

I hope you enjoy the group.

message 298: by N. (new)

N. Davis | 24 comments Hello Maria, I am just ending Innocent, again. Any one who can relate please comment, because I know you all can: To me the In death series are two for one stories. You have the mystery, then you have Eve and Roarke. So depending on my mood I jump around from book to book. Sometimes I like to read about them lovey dovey and sometimes I like them fighting it out and then making up (swoon). Not going to say too much because I don't know how to do the spoiler thing, but I like the "ex" stories, especially when Roarke is jealous. Enough said!!
